1 Peter 3
1 Likewise, wives, [be] subject to your own husbands, that, even if any are disobedient to the word, they may be gained without [the] word by the conversation of the wives,

2 having witnessed your pure conversation [carried out] in fear;
te vinaavaakya. m yo. sitaam aacaare. naarthataste. saa. m pratyak. se. na yu. smaaka. m sabhayasatiitvaacaare. naakra. s.tu. m "sak. syante|
3 whose adorning let it not be that outward one of tressing of hair, and wearing gold, or putting on apparel;
apara. m ke"saracanayaa svar. naala"nkaaradhaara. nona paricchadaparidhaanena vaa yu. smaaka. m vaahyabhuu. saa na bhavatu,
4 but the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible [ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which in the sight of God is of great price.
kintvii"svarasya saak. saad bahumuulyak. samaa"saantibhaavaak. sayaratnena yukto gupta aantarikamaanava eva|
5 For thus also the holy women who have hoped in God heretofore adorned themselves, being subject to their own husbands;
yata. h puurvvakaale yaa. h pavitrastriya ii"svare pratyaa"saamakurvvan taa api taad. r"siimeva bhuu. saa. m dhaarayantyo nijasvaaminaa. m va"syaa abhavan|
6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord; whose children ye have become, doing good, and not fearing with any kind of consternation.
tathaiva saaraa ibraahiimo va"syaa satii ta. m patimaakhyaatavatii yuuya nca yadi sadaacaari. nyo bhavatha vyaakulatayaa ca bhiitaa na bhavatha tarhi tasyaa. h kanyaa aadhve|
7 [Ye] husbands likewise, dwell with [them] according to knowledge, as with a weaker, [even] the female, vessel, giving [them] honour, as also fellow-heirs of [the] grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered.
he puru. saa. h, yuuya. m j naanato durbbalatarabhaajanairiva yo. sidbhi. h sahavaasa. m kuruta, ekasya jiivanavarasya sahabhaaginiibhyataabhya. h samaadara. m vitarata ca na ced yu. smaaka. m praarthanaanaa. m baadhaa jani. syate|
8 Finally, [be] all of one mind, sympathising, full of brotherly love, tender hearted, humble minded;
vi"se. sato yuuya. m sarvva ekamanasa. h paradu. hkhai rdu. hkhitaa bhraat. rprami. na. h k. rpaavanta. h priitibhaavaa"sca bhavata|
9 not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing; but on the contrary, blessing [others], because ye have been called to this, that ye should inherit blessing.
ani. s.tasya pari"sodhenaani. s.ta. m nindaayaa vaa pari"sodhena nindaa. m na kurvvanta aa"si. sa. m datta yato yuuyam aa"siradhikaari. no bhavitumaahuutaa iti jaaniitha|
10 For he that will love life and see good days, let him cause his tongue to cease from evil and his lips that they speak no guile.
apara nca, jiivane priiyamaa. no ya. h sudinaani did. rk. sate| paapaat jihvaa. m m. r.saavaakyaat svaadharau sa nivarttayet|
11 And let him avoid evil, and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it;
sa tyajed du. s.tataamaarga. m satkriyaa nca samaacaret| m. rgayaa. na"sca "saanti. m sa nityamevaanudhaavatu|
12 because [the] eyes of [the] Lord [are] on [the] righteous, and his ears towards their supplications; but [the] face of [the] Lord [is] against them that do evil.
locane parame"sasyonmiilite dhaarmmikaan prati| praarthanaayaa. h k. rte te. saa. h tacchrotre sugame sadaa| krodhaasya nca pare"sasya kadaacaari. su varttate|
13 And who shall injure you if ye have become imitators of that which [is] good?
apara. m yadi yuuyam uttamasyaanugaamino bhavatha tarhi ko yu. smaan hi. msi. syate?
14 But if also ye should suffer for righteousness' sake, blessed [are ye]; but be not afraid of their fear, neither be troubled;
yadi ca dharmmaartha. m kli"syadhva. m tarhi dhanyaa bhavi. syatha| te. saam aa"sa"nkayaa yuuya. m na bibhiita na vi"nkta vaa|
15 but sanctify [the] Lord the Christ in your hearts, and [be] always prepared to [give] an answer [to] every one that asks you to give an account of the hope that [is] in you, but with meekness and fear;
manobhi. h kintu manyadhva. m pavitra. m prabhumii"svara. m| apara nca yu. smaakam aantarikapratyaa"saayaastattva. m ya. h ka"scit p. rcchati tasmai "saantibhiitibhyaam uttara. m daatu. m sadaa susajjaa bhavata|
16 having a good conscience, that [as to that] in which they speak against you as evildoers, they may be ashamed who calumniate your good conversation in Christ.
ye ca khrii. s.tadharmme yu. smaaka. m sadaacaara. m duu. sayanti te du. skarmmakaari. naamiva yu. smaakam apavaadena yat lajjitaa bhaveyustadartha. m yu. smaakam uttama. h sa. mvedo bhavatu|
17 For [it is] better, if the will of God should will it, to suffer [as] well-doers than [as] evildoers;
ii"svarasyaabhimataad yadi yu. smaabhi. h kle"sa. h so. dhavyastarhi sadaacaaribhi. h kle"sasahana. m vara. m na ca kadaacaaribhi. h|
18 for Christ indeed has once suffered for sins, [the] just for [the] unjust, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in flesh, but made alive in [the] Spirit,
yasmaad ii"svarasya sannidhim asmaan aanetum adhaarmmikaa. naa. m vinimayena dhaarmmika. h khrii. s.to. apyekak. rtva. h paapaanaa. m da. n.da. m bhuktavaan, sa ca "sariirasambandhe maarita. h kintvaatmana. h sambandhe puna rjiivito. abhavat|
19 in which also going he preached to the spirits [which are] in prison,
tatsambandhe ca sa yaatraa. m vidhaaya kaaraabaddhaanaam aatmanaa. m samiipe vaakya. m gho. sitavaan|
20 heretofore disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in [the] days of Noah while the ark was preparing, into which few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water:
puraa nohasya samaye yaavat poto niramiiyata taavad ii"svarasya diirghasahi. s.nutaa yadaa vyalambata tadaa te. anaaj naagraahi. no. abhavan| tena potonaalpe. arthaad a. s.taaveva praa. ninastoyam uttiir. naa. h|
21 which figure also now saves you, [even] baptism, not a putting away of [the] filth of flesh, but [the] demand as before God of a good conscience, by [the] resurrection of Jesus Christ,
tannidar"sana ncaavagaahana. m (arthata. h "saariirikamalinataayaa yastyaaga. h sa nahi kintvii"svaraayottamasa. mvedasya yaa prataj naa saiva) yii"sukhrii. s.tasya punarutthaanenedaaniim asmaan uttaarayati,
22 who is at [the] right hand of God, gone into heaven, angels and authorities and powers being subjected to him.
yata. h sa svarga. m gatve"svarasya dak. si. ne vidyate svargiiyaduutaa. h "saasakaa balaani ca tasya va"siibhuutaa abhavan|
