1 Kings 5
1 And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father; for Hiram always loved David.
Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya ses serviteurs vers Salomon, car il avait appris qu’on l’avait oint pour roi à la place de son père, et Hiram avait toujours été l’ami de David.
2 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
Et Salomon envoya dire à Hiram:
3 Thou knowest that David my father could not build a house unto the name of Jehovah his God, because of the wars which were about him on every side, until Jehovah put them under the soles of his feet.
« Tu sais que David, mon père, n’a pu bâtir une maison au nom de Yahweh, son Dieu, à cause des guerres dont ses ennemis l’ont entouré, jusqu’à ce que Yahweh les eût mis sous la plante de ses pieds.
4 But now Jehovah my God has given me rest on every side: there is neither adversary nor evil event.
Maintenant, Yahweh, mon Dieu m’a donné du repos de tous côtés; il n’y a plus d’adversaire, plus d’affaire fâcheuse.
5 And behold, I purpose to build a house unto the name of Jehovah my God, as Jehovah spoke to David my father saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy stead, he shall build a house unto my name.
Et voici que je pense à bâtir une maison au nom de Yahweh, mon Dieu, comme Yahweh l’a déclaré à David, mon père, en disant: C’est ton fils, que je mettrai à ta place sur ton trône, qui bâtira la maison à mon nom.
6 And now command that they hew me cedar-trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants; and I will give thee hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt say; for thou knowest that there is not among us any that are experienced in cutting timber like to the Zidonians.
Et maintenant, ordonne que l’on coupe pour moi des cèdres sur le Liban. Mes serviteurs seront avec tes serviteurs, et je te donnerai pour le salaire de tes serviteurs tout ce que tu diras; car tu sais qu’il n’y a personne parmi nous qui s’entende à couper le bois comme les Sidoniens. »
7 And it came to pass when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be Jehovah this day, who has given to David a wise son over this great people.
Lorsque Hiram entendit les paroles de Salomon, il eut une grande joie et il dit: « Béni soit aujourd’hui Yahweh qui a donné à David un fils sage pour régner sur ce grand peuple! »
8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have heard the things which thou sentest to me for: I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of cypress.
Et Hiram envoya dire à Salomon: « J’ai entendu ce que tu m’as envoyé dire; je ferai ce que tu désires au sujet des bois de cèdre et des bois de cyprès.
9 My servants shall bring [them] down from Lebanon to the sea; and I will convey them by sea [in] rafts to the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and thou shalt receive them. And thou shalt accomplish my desire in giving food for my household.
Mes serviteurs les descendront du Liban à la mer, et je les ferai flotter par mer jusqu’au lieu que tu m’enverras dire; là, je les ferai délier, et tu les prendras. Et toi, tu accompliras mon désir, en fournissant les vivres à ma maison. »
10 So Hiram gave Solomon cedar-trees and cypress-trees [according to] all his desire.
Hiram donnait à Salomon des bois de cèdre et des bois de cyprès autant qu’il en voulait;
11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat as food for his household, and twenty measures of beaten oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
et Salomon donnait à Hiram vingt mille cors de froment pour l’entretien de sa maison, et vingt cors d’huile d’olives broyées. Voilà ce que Salomon livrait chaque année à Hiram.
12 And Jehovah gave Solomon wisdom as he promised him. And there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league.
Et Yahweh donna de la sagesse à Salomon, comme il le lui avait promis; et il y eut paix entre Hiram et Salomon, et ils firent alliance ensemble.
13 And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
Le roi Salomon leva parmi tous les Israélites des hommes de corvée, et les hommes de corvée étaient au nombre de trente mille.
14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; a month they were in Lebanon, two months at home; and Adoniram was over the levy.
Il les envoyait au Liban, dix mille par mois alternativement; ils étaient un mois au Liban, et deux mois chez eux; Adoniram était préposé sur les hommes de corvée.
15 And Solomon had seventy thousand that bore burdens, and eighty thousand stone-masons in the mountains;
Salomon avait encore soixante-dix mille hommes qui portaient les fardeaux, et quatre-vingt mille qui taillaient les pierres dans la montagne,
16 besides the overseers whom Solomon had set over the work, three thousand three hundred, who ruled over the people that wrought in the work.
sans compter les surintendants préposés aux travaux par Salomon, au nombre de trois mille trois cents; ils dirigeaient le peuple qui travaillait aux entreprises.
17 And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, hewn stones, to lay the foundation of the house.
Le roi ordonna d’extraire de grandes pierres, pierres de choix, pour établir en pierres de taille les fondements de la maison.
18 And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the Giblites hewed them, and prepared timber and stones to build the house.
Les maçons de Salomon et les maçons de Hiram, et les Gibliens, taillèrent et préparèrent les bois et les pierres pour bâtir la maison.
