1 Kings 20
1 And Ben-Hadad king of Syria assembled all his host; and there were thirty-two kings with him, and horses and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
Und Ben-Hadad, der König von Syrien, versammelte seine ganze Heeresmacht: 32 Könige waren mit ihm und Rosse und Wagen; und er zog herauf und belagerte Samaria und stritt wider dasselbe.
2 And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said to him, Thus says Ben-Hadad:
Und er sandte Boten zu Ahab, dem König von Israel, in die Stadt,
3 Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, the goodliest, are mine.
und ließ ihm sagen: So spricht Ben-Hadad: Dein Silber und dein Gold ist mein, und deine Weiber und deine Söhne, die schönsten, sind mein.
4 And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.
Und der König von Israel antwortete und sprach: Nach deinem Worte, mein Herr König: dein bin ich mit allem, was mein ist.
5 And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaks Ben-Hadad saying: I sent to thee indeed, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;
Und die Boten kamen wieder und sprachen: So spricht Ben-Hadad und sagt: Wohl habe ich zu dir gesandt und gesprochen: Dein Silber und dein Gold, und deine Weiber und deine Söhne sollst du mir geben;
6 but to-morrow about this time I will send my servants to thee, and they shall search thy house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thy sight, they shall put in their hand and take away.
doch morgen um diese Zeit werde ich meine Knechte zu dir senden, und sie werden dein Haus und die Häuser deiner Knechte durchsuchen; und es wird geschehen, alle Lust deiner Augen werden sie in ihre Hand tun und mitnehmen.
7 And the king of Israel called all the elders of the land and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this [man] seeks mischief; for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
Da berief der König von Israel alle Ältesten des Landes und sprach: Erkennet doch und sehet, daß dieser Böses sucht; denn er hat zu mir gesandt um meine Weiber und meine Söhne, und um mein Silber und mein Gold, und ich habe es ihm nicht verweigert.
8 And all the elders and all the people said to him, Hearken not, nor consent.
Und alle Ältesten und alles Volk sprachen zu ihm: Gehorche nicht und willige nicht ein!
9 And he said to the messengers of Ben-Hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do; but this thing I cannot do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
Und er sprach zu den Boten Ben-Hadads: Saget meinem Herrn, dem König: Alles, was du deinem Knechte zuerst entboten hast, will ich tun; aber diese Sache kann ich nicht tun. Und die Boten gingen hin und brachten ihm Antwort.
10 And Ben-Hadad sent to him and said, The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me!
Da sandte Ben-Hadad zu ihm und ließ ihm sagen: So sollen mir die Götter tun und so hinzufügen, wenn der Staub von Samaria hinreichen soll für die hohlen Hände all des Volkes, das mir folgt!
11 And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell [him], Let not him that girdeth on boast himself as he that putteth off!
Und der König von Israel antwortete und sprach: Saget ihm: Es rühme sich nicht der sich Gürtende wie der den Gürtel Lösende!
12 And it came to pass when he heard this word, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the tents, that he said to his servants, Set yourselves. And they set themselves against the city.
Und es geschah, als er dieses Wort hörte, -er trank eben, er und die Könige, in den Zelten- [Eig. Hütten, Laubhütten] da sprach er zu seinen Knechten: Stellet euch! [Eig. Leget an [d. h. die Belagerungswerkzeuge]] Und sie stellten sich wider die Stadt.
13 And behold, a prophet drew near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, Thus saith Jehovah: Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thy hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am Jehovah.
Und siehe, ein Prophet trat zu Ahab, dem König von Israel, und sprach: So spricht Jehova: Hast du diesen ganzen großen Haufen gesehen? Siehe, ich gebe ihn heute in deine Hand, und du sollst wissen, daß ich Jehova bin.
14 And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith Jehovah: By the servants of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall begin the battle? And he said, Thou.
Und Ahab sprach: Durch wen? Und er sprach: So spricht Jehova: Durch die Knaben [d. h. Knappen, Knechte] der Obersten der Landschaften. Und er sprach: Wer soll den Kampf eröffnen? Und er sprach: Du.
15 And he numbered the servants of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two; and after them he numbered all the people, all the children of Israel, seven thousand.
Da musterte er die Knaben der Obersten der Landschaften, und ihrer waren 232; und nach ihnen musterte er das ganze Volk, alle Kinder Israel, 7000 Mann.
16 And they went out at noon; and Ben-Hadad drank himself drunk in the tents, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings that helped him.
Und sie zogen aus am Mittag. Ben-Hadad aber trank und berauschte sich in den Zelten, [Eig. Hütten, Laubhütten] er und die Könige, die 32 Könige, die ihm halfen.
17 And the servants of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben-Hadad sent out, and they told him saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
Und die Knaben der Obersten der Landschaften zogen zuerst aus. Und Ben-Hadad sandte hin, und man berichtete ihm und sprach: Es sind Männer aus Samaria gezogen.
18 And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.
Da sprach er: Wenn sie zum Frieden ausgezogen sind, so greifet sie lebendig; und wenn sie zum Streit ausgezogen sind, so greifet sie lebendig.
19 And these servants of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army that followed them.
Diese aber zogen aus der Stadt: die Knaben der Obersten der Landschaften und das Heer, das ihnen folgte.
20 And they slew every one his man; and the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them; and Ben-Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with the horsemen.
Und sie schlugen ein jeder seinen Mann, und die Syrer flohen, und Israel jagte ihnen nach; und Ben-Hadad, der König von Syrien, entkam auf einem Rosse mit einigen Reitern.
21 And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.
Da zog der König von Israel aus und schlug die Rosse und die Wagen, und er richtete unter den Syrern eine große Niederlage an.
22 And the prophet drew near to the king of Israel, and said to him, Go, strengthen thyself, and understand, and see what thou shalt do; for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
Da trat der Prophet zu dem König von Israel und sprach zu ihm: Wohlan, verstärke dich, und erkenne und sieh zu, was du zu tun hast; denn bei der Rückkehr des Jahres wird der König von Syrien wider dich heraufziehen.
23 And the servants of the king of Syria said to him, Their gods are gods of the mountains; therefore they were stronger than we; but if we fight against them on the plateau, shall we not be stronger than they?
Und die Knechte des Königs von Syrien sprachen zu ihm: Ihre Götter sind Berggötter, darum waren sie uns überlegen; jedoch laßt uns in der Ebene wider sie streiten, ob wir ihnen nicht überlegen sein werden!
24 And do this: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put governors in their stead;
Tue aber dieses: Entferne die Könige, einen jeden von seinem Orte, und setze Befehlshaber an ihre Stelle;
25 and number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot; and we will fight against them on the plateau: shall we not be stronger than they? And he hearkened to their voice, and did so.
und du, zähle dir ein Heer wie das Heer, das dir gefallen ist, und Rosse wie die Rosse, und Wagen wie die Wagen; und wir wollen in der Ebene wider sie streiten, ob wir ihnen nicht überlegen sein werden. Und er hörte auf ihre Stimme und tat also.
26 And it came to pass, at the return of the year, that Ben-Hadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
Und es geschah bei der Rückkehr des Jahres, da musterte Ben-Hadad die Syrer, und er zog hinauf nach Aphek [in der Ebene Jisreel] zum Streit mit Israel.
27 And the children of Israel were numbered and victualled, and they went against them; and the children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of goats; but the Syrians filled the land.
Und die Kinder Israel wurden gemustert und mit Vorrat versorgt, und sie zogen ihnen entgegen; und die Kinder Israel lagerten sich ihnen gegenüber wie zwei kleine Herden Ziegen; die Syrer aber füllten das Land.
28 And the man of God drew near, and spoke to the king of Israel and said, Thus saith Jehovah: Because the Syrians have said, Jehovah is a god of the mountains, but he is not a god of the valleys, I will give all this great multitude into thy hand, and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.
Da trat der Mann Gottes herzu und sprach zu dem König von Israel und sagte: So spricht Jehova: Weil die Syrer gesagt haben: Jehova ist ein Gott der Berge und nicht ein Gott der Täler, [Eig. der Talebenen] so will ich diesen ganzen großen Haufen in deine Hand geben; und ihr werdet erkennen, daß ich Jehova bin.
29 And they encamped one over against the other seven days; and it came to pass that on the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel smote of the Syrians a hundred thousand footmen in one day.
Und sie lagerten, diese jenen gegenüber, sieben Tage lang. Und es geschah am siebten Tage, da begann [W. rückte heran] der Streit; und die Kinder Israel schlugen die Syrer, 100000 Mann zu Fuß, an einem Tage.
30 And the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men of them that were left. And Ben-Hadad fled, and came into the city, [from] chamber to chamber.
Und die übrigen flohen nach Aphek in die Stadt. Da fiel die Mauer auf die 27000 Mann, die übriggeblieben waren. Und Ben-Hadad floh und kam in die Stadt, in das innerste Gemach. [O. von Gemach zu Gemach]
31 And his servants said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will save thy life.
Da sprachen seine Knechte zu ihm: Siehe doch, wir haben gehört, daß die Könige des Hauses Israel gnädige Könige sind; laß uns doch Sacktuch um unsere Lenden legen und Stricke um unsere Häupter, und zum König von Israel hinausgehen; vielleicht läßt er deine Seele am Leben.
32 And they girded sackcloth on their loins, and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-Hadad says, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
Und sie gürteten Sacktuch um ihre Lenden und legten Stricke um ihre Häupter, und kamen zu dem König von Israel und sprachen: Dein Knecht Ben-Hadad spricht: Laß doch meine Seele am Leben! Und er sprach: Lebt er noch? Er ist mein Bruder.
33 And the men took it as a good omen, and hastened to catch what came from him, and they said, Thy brother Ben-Hadad. ...And he said, Go, bring him. And Ben-Hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
Und die Männer nahmen es als eine gute Vorbedeutung, und eilten sich zu vergewissern, [Eig. ihn bestätigen zu lassen] ob er es wirklich so meinte, [Eig. ob es aus ihm wäre] und sprachen: Dein Bruder Ben-Hadad. [O. Ben-Hadad ist dein Bruder?] Und er sprach: Gehet, holet ihn. Da ging Ben-Hadad zu ihm hinaus, und er ließ ihn zu sich auf den Wagen steigen.
34 And [Ben-Hadad] said to him, The cities that my father took from thy father I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thyself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. And I [said Ahab] will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
Und Ben-Hadad [W. Und er] sprach: Die Städte, die mein Vater deinem Vater genommen hat, will ich dir zurückgeben, und du magst dir Straßen in Damaskus anlegen, so wie mein Vater sich solche in Samaria angelegt hat. Und ich, sprach Ahab, will dich mit diesem Bunde ziehen lassen. Und er machte einen Bund mit ihm und ließ ihn ziehen.
35 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to another by the word of Jehovah, Smite me, I pray thee. But the man refused to smite him.
Und ein Mann von den Söhnen der Propheten sprach zu seinem Genossen durch das Wort Jehovas: Schlage mich doch! Aber der Mann weigerte sich, ihn zu schlagen.
36 Then said he to him, Because thou hast not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, behold, when thou departest from me, the lion will slay thee. And when he had departed from him, the lion found him and slew him.
Da sprach er zu ihm: Darum daß du nicht auf die Stimme Jehovas gehört hast, siehe, sobald du von mir weggehst, wird dich ein Löwe töten. Und als er von ihm wegging, da fand ihn ein Löwe und tötete ihn.
37 Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him violently, and wounded [him].
Und er traf einen anderen Mann und sprach: Schlage mich doch! Und der Mann schlug ihn, schlug und verwundete ihn.
38 And the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with a sash over his eyes.
Da ging der Prophet hin und stellte sich auf den Weg des Königs, [d. h. den der König kommen sollte] und machte sich unkenntlich, indem er den Kopfbund über seine Augen zog.
39 And as the king passed by, he cried to the king and said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me and said, Keep this man; if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
Und es geschah, als der König vorbeiging, da schrie er den König an und sprach: Dein Knecht war mitten in den Streit gezogen, und siehe, da wandte sich ein Mann herzu und brachte einen Mann zu mir und sprach: Bewache diesen Mann; wenn er irgend vermißt wird, so soll dein Leben statt seines Lebens sein, oder du sollst ein Talent Silber darwägen.
40 And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, So [is] thy judgment: thyself hast decided [it].
Und es geschah, während dein Knecht hier und dort zu tun hatte, da war er fort. Und der König von Israel sprach zu ihm: Also ist dein Urteil, du selbst hast entschieden.
41 Then he hastily took the sash away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him, that he was of the prophets.
Da tat er eilends den Kopfbund von seinen Augen, und der König von Israel erkannte ihn, daß er von den Propheten war.
42 And he said to him, Thus saith Jehovah: Because thou hast let go out of thy hand the man that I had devoted to destruction, thy life shall be for his life, and thy people for his people.
Und er sprach zu ihm: So spricht Jehova: Weil du den Mann, den ich verbannt [Eig. den Mann meines Bannes, d. h. der dem Tode geweiht war] habe, aus der Hand entlassen hast, so soll dein Leben statt seines Lebens sein und dein Volk statt seines Volkes!
43 And the king of Israel went to his house sullen and vexed, and came to Samaria.
Und der König von Israel ging nach seinem Hause, mißmutig und zornig, und kam nach Samaria.
