< 1 Corinthians 9 >
1 Am I not free? am I not an apostle? have I not seen Jesus our Lord? are not ye my work in [the] Lord?
aha. m kim eka. h prerito naasmi? kimaha. m svatantro naasmi? asmaaka. m prabhu ryii"su. h khrii. s.ta. h ki. m mayaa naadar"si? yuuyamapi ki. m prabhunaa madiiya"sramaphalasvaruupaa na bhavatha?
2 If I am not an apostle to others, yet at any rate I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in [the] Lord.
anyalokaanaa. m k. rte yadyapyaha. m prerito na bhaveya. m tathaaca yu. smatk. rte prerito. asmi yata. h prabhunaa mama preritatvapadasya mudraasvaruupaa yuuyamevaadhve|
3 My defence to those who examine me is this:
ye lokaa mayi do. samaaropayanti taan prati mama pratyuttarametat|
4 Have we not a right to eat and to drink?
bhojanapaanayo. h kimasmaaka. m k. samataa naasti?
5 have we not a right to take round a sister [as] wife, as also the other apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
anye preritaa. h prabho rbhraatarau kaiphaa"sca yat kurvvanti tadvat kaa ncit dharmmabhaginii. m vyuuhya tayaa saarddha. m paryya. titu. m vaya. m ki. m na "saknuma. h?
6 Or I alone and Barnabas, have we not a right not to work?
saa. msaarika"sramasya parityaagaat ki. m kevalamaha. m bar. nabbaa"sca nivaaritau?
7 Who ever carries on war at his own charges? who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? or who herds a flock and does not eat of the milk of the flock?
nijadhanavyayena ka. h sa. mgraama. m karoti? ko vaa draak. saak. setra. m k. rtvaa tatphalaani na bhu"nkte? ko vaa pa"suvraja. m paalayan tatpayo na pivati?
8 Do I speak these things as a man, or does not the law also say these things?
kimaha. m kevalaa. m maanu. sikaa. m vaaca. m vadaami? vyavasthaayaa. m kimetaad. r"sa. m vacana. m na vidyate?
9 For in the law of Moses it is written, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that is treading out corn. Is God occupied about the oxen,
muusaavyavasthaagranthe likhitamaaste, tva. m "sasyamarddakav. r.sasyaasya. m na bha. mtsyasiiti| ii"svare. na baliivarddaanaameva cintaa ki. m kriyate?
10 or does he say [it] altogether for our sakes? For for our sakes it has been written, that the plougher should plough in hope, and he that treads out corn, in hope of partaking of [it].
ki. m vaa sarvvathaasmaaka. m k. rte tadvacana. m tenokta. m? asmaakameva k. rte tallikhita. m| ya. h k. setra. m kar. sati tena pratyaa"saayuktena kar. s.tavya. m, ya"sca "sasyaani marddayati tena laabhapratyaa"saayuktena mardditavya. m|
11 If we have sown to you spiritual things, [is it a] great [thing] if we shall reap your carnal things?
yu. smatk. rte. asmaabhi. h paaratrikaa. ni biijaani ropitaani, ato yu. smaakamaihikaphalaanaa. m vayam a. m"sino bhavi. syaama. h kimetat mahat karmma?
12 If others partake of this right over you, should not rather we? But we have not used this right, but we bear all things, that we may put no hindrance in the way of the glad tidings of the Christ.
yu. smaasu yo. adhikaarastasya bhaagino yadyanye bhaveyustarhyasmaabhistato. adhika. m ki. m tasya bhaagibhi rna bhavitavya. m? adhikantu vaya. m tenaadhikaare. na na vyavah. rtavanta. h kintu khrii. s.tiiyasusa. mvaadasya ko. api vyaaghaato. asmaabhiryanna jaayeta tadartha. m sarvva. m sahaamahe|
13 Do ye not know that they who labour [at] sacred things eat of the [offerings offered in the] temple; they that attend at the altar partake with the altar?
apara. m ye pavitravastuunaa. m paricaryyaa. m kurvvanti te pavitravastuto bhak. syaa. ni labhante, ye ca vedyaa. h paricaryyaa. m kurvvanti te vedisthavastuunaam a. m"sino bhavantyetad yuuya. m ki. m na vida?
14 So also the Lord has ordained to those that announce the glad tidings to live of the glad tidings.
tadvad ye susa. mvaada. m gho. sayanti tai. h susa. mvaadena jiivitavyamiti prabhunaadi. s.ta. m|
15 But I have used none of these things. Now I have not written these things that it should be thus in my case; for [it were] good for me rather to die than that any one should make vain my boast.
ahamete. saa. m sarvve. saa. m kimapi naa"sritavaan maa. m prati tadanusaaraat aacaritavyamityaa"sayenaapi patramida. m mayaa na likhyate yata. h kenaapi janena mama ya"saso mudhaakara. naat mama mara. na. m vara. m|
16 For if I announce the glad tidings, I have nothing to boast of; for a necessity is laid upon me; for it is woe to me if I should not announce the glad tidings.
susa. mvaadaghe. sa. naat mama ya"so na jaayate yatastadgho. sa. na. m mamaava"syaka. m yadyaha. m susa. mvaada. m na gho. sayeya. m tarhi maa. m dhik|
17 For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with an administration.
icchukena tat kurvvataa mayaa phala. m lapsyate kintvanicchuke. api mayi tatkarmma. no bhaaro. arpito. asti|
18 What is the reward then that I have? That in announcing the glad tidings I make the glad tidings costless [to others], so as not to have made use, as belonging to me, of my right in [announcing] the glad tidings.
etena mayaa labhya. m phala. m ki. m? susa. mvaadena mama yo. adhikaara aaste ta. m yadabhadrabhaavena naacareya. m tadartha. m susa. mvaadagho. sa. nasamaye tasya khrii. s.tiiyasusa. mvaadasya nirvyayiikara. nameva mama phala. m|
19 For being free from all, I have made myself bondman to all, that I might gain the most [possible].
sarvve. saam anaayatto. aha. m yad bhuuri"so lokaan pratipadye tadartha. m sarvve. saa. m daasatvama"ngiik. rtavaan|
20 And I became to the Jews as a Jew, in order that I might gain the Jews: to those under law, as under law, not being myself under law, in order that I might gain those under law:
yihuudiiyaan yat pratipadye tadartha. m yihuudiiyaanaa. m k. rte yihuudiiyaivaabhava. m| ye ca vyavasthaayattaastaan yat pratipadye tadartha. m vyavasthaanaayatto yo. aha. m so. aha. m vyavasthaayattaanaa. m k. rte vyavasthaayattaivaabhava. m|
21 to those without law, as without law, (not as without law to God, but as legitimately subject to Christ, ) in order that I might gain [those] without law.
ye caalabdhavyavasthaastaan yat pratipadye tadartham ii"svarasya saak. saad alabdhavyavastho na bhuutvaa khrii. s.tena labdhavyavastho yo. aha. m so. aham alabdhavyavasthaanaa. m k. rte. alabdhavyavastha ivaabhava. m|
22 I became to the weak, [as] weak, in order that I might gain the weak. To all I have become all things, in order that at all events I might save some.
durbbalaan yat pratipadye tadarthamaha. m durbbalaanaa. m k. rte durbbalaivaabhava. m| ittha. m kenaapi prakaare. na katipayaa lokaa yanmayaa paritraa. na. m praapnuyustadartha. m yo yaad. r"sa aasiit tasya k. rte. aha. m taad. r"saivaabhava. m|
23 And I do all things for the sake of the glad tidings, that I may be fellow-partaker with them.
id. r"sa aacaara. h susa. mvaadaartha. m mayaa kriyate yato. aha. m tasya phalaanaa. m sahabhaagii bhavitumicchaami|
24 Know ye not that they who run in [the] race-course run all, but one receives the prize? Thus run in order that ye may obtain.
pa. nyalaabhaartha. m ye dhaavanti dhaavataa. m te. saa. m sarvve. saa. m kevala eka. h pa. nya. m labhate yu. smaabhi. h kimetanna j naayate? ato yuuya. m yathaa pa. nya. m lapsyadhve tathaiva dhaavata|
25 But every one that contends [for a prize] is temperate in all things: they then indeed that they may receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible.
mallaa api sarvvabhoge parimitabhogino bhavanti te tu mlaanaa. m sraja. m lipsante kintu vayam amlaanaa. m lipsaamahe|
26 I therefore thus run, as not uncertainly; so I combat, as not beating the air.
tasmaad ahamapi dhaavaami kintu lak. syamanuddi"sya dhaavaami tannahi| aha. m mallaiva yudhyaami ca kintu chaayaamaaghaatayanniva yudhyaami tannahi|
27 But I buffet my body, and lead it captive, lest [after] having preached to others I should be myself rejected.
itaraan prati susa. mvaada. m gho. sayitvaaha. m yat svayamagraahyo na bhavaami tadartha. m deham aahanmi va"siikurvve ca|
