< Psalms 9 >
1 Unto the end. For the secrets of the Son. A Psalm of David. I will confess to you, Lord, with my whole heart. I will recount all your wonders.
א I will yadah ·extend hands in thankful praise· to Adonai with my whole heart. I will tell of all your marvelous works.
2 I will rejoice and exult in you. I will sing a psalm to your name, O Most High.
I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing zahmar ·musical praise· to your name, O Most High.
3 For my enemy will be turned back. They will be weakened and perish before your face.
בּ When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish in your presence.
4 For you have accomplished my judgment and my cause. You have sat upon the throne that judges justice.
For you have maintained my mishpat ·just· cause. You sit on the throne judging righteously.
5 You have rebuked the Gentiles, and the impious one has perished. You have deleted their name in eternity and for all generations.
גּ You have rebuked the nations. You have destroyed the wicked. You have blotted out their name forever and ever.
6 The spears of the enemy have failed in the end, and their cities, you have destroyed. Their memory has perished with a loud noise.
The enemy is overtaken by endless ruin. The very memory of the cities which you have overthrown has perished.
7 But the Lord remains in eternity. He has prepared his throne in judgment.
But Adonai reigns forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment.
8 And he will judge the whole world in equity. He will judge the people in justice.
ה He will judge the world in righteousness. He will administer judgment to the peoples in uprightness.
9 And the Lord has become a refuge for the poor, a helper in opportunity, in tribulation.
Adonai will also be a high tower for the oppressed; a high tower in times of trouble.
10 And may they hope in you, who know your name. For you have not abandoned those seeking you, Lord.
Those who know your name will put their trust in you, for you, Adonai, have not forsaken those who seek you.
11 Sing a psalm to the Lord, who dwells in Zion. Announce his study among the Gentiles.
ז Sing zahmar ·musical praise· to Adonai, who dwells in Zion [Mountain ridge, Marking], and declare among the people what he has done.
12 Because of those who yearned for their blood, he has remembered them. He has not forgotten the cry of the poor.
For he who avenges blood remembers them. He does not forget the cry of the afflicted.
13 Have mercy on me, Lord. See my humiliation from my enemies.
ח Have mercy on me, Adonai. See my affliction by those who hate me, and lift me up from the gates of death;
14 You lift me up from the gates of death, so that I may announce all your praises at the gates of the daughter of Zion.
that I may show all of your tehilah ·praise song·. In the gates of the daughter of Zion [Mountain ridge, Marking], I will rejoice in your yishu'ah ·salvation·.
15 I will exult in your salvation. The Gentiles have become trapped in the ruin that they made. Their foot has been caught in the same snare that they themselves had hidden.
ט The nations have sunk down in the pit that they made. In the net which they hid, their own foot is taken.
16 The Lord will be recognized when making judgments. The sinner has been caught in the works of his own hands. (Pause)
Adonai has made himself known. He has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his own hands. Higgayon (Meditation, Selah) ·contemplation with musical interlude·.
17 The sinners will be turned into Hell: all the Gentiles who have forgotten God. (Sheol )
י The wicked shall be turned back to Sheol ·Place of the dead·, even all the nations that forget God. (Sheol )
18 For the poor will not be forgotten in the end. The patience of the poor will not perish in the end.
כּ For the needy shall not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor perish forever.
19 Rise up, Lord: do not let man be strengthened. Let the Gentiles be judged in your sight.
Arise, Adonai! Don’t let man prevail. Let the nations be judged in your sight.
20 O Lord, establish a lawgiver over them, so that the Gentiles may know that they are only men. (Pause)
Put them in fear, Adonai. Let the nations know that they are only men. (Selah) ·contemplation with musical interlude·.
