Psalms 18
1 Unto the end. For David, the servant of the Lord, who spoke the words of this canticle to the Lord, in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said: I will love you, O Lord my strength.
[Salmo] di Davide, servitor del Signore, il qual pronunziò le parole di questo cantico al Signore, nel giorno che il Signore l'ebbe riscosso dalla mano di tutti i suoi nemici, e dalla mano di Saulle; [dato] al Capo de' Musici. Egli adunque disse: O SIGNORE, mia forza, io ti amerò affettuosamente.
2 The Lord is my firmament, my refuge, and my liberator. My God is my helper, and I hope in him: my protector, and the horn of my salvation, and my support.
Il Signore [è] la mia rocca, e la mia fortezza, e il mio liberatore, Il mio Dio, la mia rupe; io spererò in lui; Il mio scudo, e il corno della mia salute, il mio alto ricetto.
3 Praising, I will call upon the Lord. And I will be saved from my enemies.
Io invocai il Signore, a cui si deve ogni lode; E fui salvato da' miei nemici.
4 The sorrows of death surrounded me, and the torrents of iniquity dismayed me.
Doglie di morte mi avevano circondato, E torrenti di scellerati mi avevano spaventato.
Legami di sepolcro mi avevano intorniato, Lacci di morte mi avevano incontrato. (Sheol h7585)
6 In my tribulation, I called upon the Lord, and I cried out to my God. And he listened to my voice from his holy temple. And my cry in his presence entered into his ears.
Nella mia distretta io invocai il Signore, E gridai all'Iddio mio; [Ed] egli udì la mia voce dal suo Tempio, E il mio grido pervenne davanti a lui a' suoi orecchi.
7 The earth was shaken, and it trembled. The foundations of the mountains were disturbed, and they were shaken, because he was angry with them.
Allora la terra fu scossa, e tremò; E i fondamenti de' monti furono smossi E scrollati; perciocchè egli era acceso nell'ira.
8 A smoke ascended by his wrath, and a fire flared up from his face: coals were kindled by it.
Un fumo gli saliva per le nari, Ed un fuoco consumante per la bocca; Da lui procedevano brace accese.
9 He bent the heavens, and they descended. And darkness was under his feet.
Ed egli abbassò i cieli, e discese; E [vi era] una caligine sotto a' suoi piedi.
10 And he ascended upon the cherubim, and he flew: he flew upon the feathers of the winds.
E cavalcava sopra Cherubini, e volava; Ed era portato a volo sopra l'ale del vento.
11 And he set darkness as his hiding place, with his tabernacle all around him: dark waters in the clouds of the air.
Egli aveva poste delle tenebre [per] suo nascondimento; [Egli avea] d'intorno a sè il suo padiglione, Oscurità d'acque, nubi dell'aria.
12 At the brightness that was before his sight, the clouds crossed by, with hail and coals of fire.
Le sue nubi si dileguarono per lo splendore [che scoppiava] davanti a lui, Con gragnuola e brace accese.
13 And the Lord thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered his voice: hail and coals of fire.
E il Signore tuonò nel cielo, E l'Altissimo diede fuori la sua voce, Con gragnuola e brace accese.
14 And he sent forth his arrows and scattered them. He multiplied lightnings, and he set them in disarray.
Ed avventò le sue saette, e disperse coloro; Egli lanciò folgori, e li mise in rotta.
15 Then the fountains of waters appeared, and the foundations of the world were revealed, by your rebuke, O Lord, by the inspiration of the Spirit of your wrath.
E per lo tuo sgridare, o Signore, [E] per lo soffiar del vento delle tue nari, I canali delle acque apparvero, E i fondamenti del mondo furono scoperti.
16 He sent from on high, and he accepted me. And he took me up, out of many waters.
Egli da alto distese [la mano e] mi prese, [E] mi trasse, fuori di grandi acque.
17 He rescued me from my strongest enemies, and from those who hated me. For they had been too strong for me.
Egli mi riscosse dal mio potente nemico, E da quelli che mi odiavano; perciocchè erano più forti di [me].
18 They intercepted me in the day of my affliction, and the Lord became my protector.
Essi erano venuti incontro a me nel giorno della mia calamità; Ma il Signore fu il mio sostegno;
19 And he led me out, into a wide place. He accomplished my salvation, because he willed me.
E mi trasse fuori al largo; Egli mi liberò, perciocchè egli mi gradisce.
20 And the Lord will reward me according to my justice, and he will repay me according to the purity of my hands.
Il Signore mi ha fatta retribuzione secondo la mia giustizia; Egli mi ha renduto secondo la purità delle mie mani;
21 For I have preserved the ways of the Lord, and I have not behaved impiously before my God.
Perciocchè io ho osservate le vie del Signore, E non mi sono empiamente rivolto dall'Iddio mio;
22 For all his judgments are in my sight, and his justice, I have not pushed away from me.
Perciocchè io ho tenute davanti a me tutte le sue leggi, E non ho rimossi d'innanzi a me i suoi statuti.
23 And I will be immaculate together with him, and I will keep myself from my iniquity.
E sono stato intiero inverso lui, E mi son guardato dalla mia iniquità.
24 And the Lord will reward me according to my justice and according to the purity of my hands before his eyes.
E il Signore mi ha renduto secondo la mia giustizia, Secondo la purità delle mie mani nel suo cospetto.
25 With the holy, you will be holy, and with the innocent, you will be innocent,
Tu ti mostri pietoso inverso l'[uomo] pio, Intiero inverso l'uomo intiero.
26 and with the elect, you will be elect, and with the perverse, you will be perverse.
Tu ti mostri puro col puro, E procedi ritrosamente col perverso;
27 For you will save the humble people, but you will bring down the eyes of the arrogant.
Perciocchè tu sei quel che salvi la gente afflitta, Ed abbassi gli occhi altieri;
28 For you illuminate my lamp, O Lord. My God, enlighten my darkness.
Perciocchè tu sei quel che fai risplendere la mia lampana; Il Signore Iddio mio allumina le mie tenebre;
29 For in you, I will be delivered from temptation; and with my God, I will climb over a wall.
Perciocchè per la tua virtù io rompo tutta una schiera; E per la virtù dell'Iddio mio salgo sopra il muro.
30 As for my God, his way is undefiled. The eloquence of the Lord has been examined by fire. He is the protector of all who hope in him.
La via di Dio [è] intiera; La parola del Signore [è] purgata col fuoco; Egli [è] lo scudo di tutti coloro che sperano in lui.
31 For who is God, except the Lord? And who is God, except our God?
Perciocchè chi [è] Dio, fuor che il Signore? E chi [è] Rocca, fuor che l'Iddio nostro?
32 It is God who has wrapped me with virtue and made my way immaculate.
Iddio [è] quel che mi cinge di prodezza, E che ha appianata la mia via.
33 It is he who has perfected my feet, like the feet of deer, and who stations me upon the heights.
Egli rende i miei piedi simili a quelli delle cerve, E mi fa star ritto in su i miei alti luoghi.
34 It is he who trains my hands for battle. And you have set my arms like a bow of brass.
Egli ammaestra le mie mani alla battaglia; E colle mie braccia un arco di rame è rotto.
35 And you have given me the protection of your salvation. And your right hand sustains me. And your discipline has corrected me unto the end. And your discipline itself will teach me.
Tu mi hai ancora dato lo scudo della tua salvezza; E la tua destra mi ha sostenuto, E la tua benignità mi ha accresciuto.
36 You have expanded my footsteps under me, and my tracks have not been weakened.
Tu hai allargati i miei passi sotto di me; E le mie calcagna non son vacillate.
37 I will pursue my enemies and apprehend them. And I will not turn back until they have failed.
Io ho perseguitati i miei nemici, e li ho aggiunti; E non me ne son tornato [indietro], finchè non li abbia distrutti.
38 I will break them, and they will not be able to stand. They will fall under my feet.
Io li ho rotti, e non son potuti risorgere; Mi son caduti sotto i piedi.
39 And you have wrapped me with virtue for the battle. And those rising up against me, you have subdued under me.
E tu mi hai cinto di prodezza per la guerra; [Ed] hai abbattuti sotto di me quelli che si levavano contro a me.
40 And you have given the back of my enemies to me, and you have destroyed those who hated me.
Ed hai fatto voltar le spalle a' miei nemici davanti a me; Ed io ho distrutti quelli che mi odiavano.
41 They cried out, but there was none to save them, to the Lord, but he did not heed them.
Essi gridarono, ma non [vi fu] chi [li] salvasse; [Gridarono] al Signore, ma egli non rispose loro.
42 And I will crush them into dust before the face of the wind, so that I will obliterate them like the mud in the streets.
Ed io li ho tritati, come polvere esposta al vento; Io li ho spazzati via, come il fango delle strade.
43 You will rescue me from the contradictions of the people. You will set me at the head of the Gentiles.
Tu mi hai scampato dalle brighe del popolo; Tu mi hai costituito capo di nazioni; Il popolo [che] io non conosceva mi è stato sottoposto.
44 A people I did not know has served me. As soon as their ears heard, they were obedient to me.
Al solo udir degli orecchi si son ridotti sotto la mia ubbidienza; Gli stranieri si sono infinti inverso me.
45 The sons of foreigners have been deceitful to me, the sons of foreigners have grown weak with time, and they have wavered from their paths.
Gli stranieri son divenuti fiacchi, Ed hanno tremato di paura, fin dentro a' lor ripari.
46 The Lord lives, and blessed is my God, and may the God of my salvation be exalted:
Viva il Signore, e benedetta [sia] la mia Rocca; E sia esaltato l'Iddio della mia salute;
47 O God, who vindicates me and who subdues the people under me, my liberator from my enraged enemies.
Iddio che mi dà [il modo di far le mie] vendette, E [che] mi sottomette i popoli.
48 And you will exalt me above those who rise up against me. From the iniquitous man, you will rescue me.
Che mi scampa da' miei nemici, Ed anche mi solleva d'infra quelli che mi assaltano, [E] mi riscuote dall'uomo violento.
49 Because of this, O Lord, I will confess to you among the nations, and I will compose a psalm to your name:
Perciò, o Signore, io ti celebrerò fra le genti, E salmeggerò al tuo Nome;
50 magnifying the salvation of his king, and showing mercy to David, his Christ, and to his offspring, even for all time.
Il quale rende magnifiche le vittorie del suo re, Ed usa benignità inverso Davide suo unto, E inverso la sua progenie in perpetuo.
