Psalms 18
1 Unto the end. For David, the servant of the Lord, who spoke the words of this canticle to the Lord, in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said: I will love you, O Lord my strength.
Dem Musikmeister. Vom Knechte Jahwes, von David, der an Jahwe die Worte dieses Liedes richtete, als ihn Jahwe aus der Gewalt aller seiner Feinde und aus der Hand Sauls errettet hatte. Er sprach: Ich will dich erhöhen, Jahwe, meine Stärke! Jahwe ist mein Fels in meiner Drangsal und mein Erretter.
2 The Lord is my firmament, my refuge, and my liberator. My God is my helper, and I hope in him: my protector, and the horn of my salvation, and my support.
Mein Gott ist mein Hort, bei dem ich Zuflucht suche, mein Schild und mein Heilshorn, meine Burg.
3 Praising, I will call upon the Lord. And I will be saved from my enemies.
Den Preiswürdigen rufe ich, Jahwe, so werde ich von meinen Feinden befreit.
4 The sorrows of death surrounded me, and the torrents of iniquity dismayed me.
Denn umringt hatten mich Wasserwogen, und tückische Bäche schreckten mich;
Bande der Unterwelt umfingen mich, Schlingen des Todes überfielen mich. (Sheol h7585)
6 In my tribulation, I called upon the Lord, and I cried out to my God. And he listened to my voice from his holy temple. And my cry in his presence entered into his ears.
Da mir angst ward, rief ich Jahwe an und zu meinem Gotte schrie ich. Er hörte aus seinem Palaste meine Stimme, und mein Geschrei kam vor ihn, drang zu seinen Ohren.
7 The earth was shaken, and it trembled. The foundations of the mountains were disturbed, and they were shaken, because he was angry with them.
Er blickte her - da wankte die Erde, und der Berge Grundfesten erbebten und schwankten hin und her, weil er ergrimmt war.
8 A smoke ascended by his wrath, and a fire flared up from his face: coals were kindled by it.
Rauch stieg auf in seiner Nase, und Feuer fraß aus seinem Munde; glühende Kohlen brannten von ihm aus.
9 He bent the heavens, and they descended. And darkness was under his feet.
Er neigte den Himmel und ließ sich herab, während Dunkel unter seinen Füßen war.
10 And he ascended upon the cherubim, and he flew: he flew upon the feathers of the winds.
Er bestieg einen Kerub und flog dahin und schwebte einher auf den Fittigen des Windes.
11 And he set darkness as his hiding place, with his tabernacle all around him: dark waters in the clouds of the air.
Er machte Finsternis zu seiner Hülle, ringsum zu seiner Hütte Wasserdunkel, dichte Wolken.
12 At the brightness that was before his sight, the clouds crossed by, with hail and coals of fire.
Vom Glanze vor ihm brachen durch seine Wolken, Hagel und Feuerkohlen.
13 And the Lord thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered his voice: hail and coals of fire.
Da donnerte im Himmel Jahwe und der Höchste ließ seine Stimme erschallen.
14 And he sent forth his arrows and scattered them. He multiplied lightnings, and he set them in disarray.
Er schleuderte seine Pfeile und zerstreute sie, blitzte Blitze und scheuchte sie.
15 Then the fountains of waters appeared, and the foundations of the world were revealed, by your rebuke, O Lord, by the inspiration of the Spirit of your wrath.
Da wurden sichtbar die Betten des Meers, und bloßgelegt die Grundfesten des Erdkreises vor deinem Schelten, Jahwe, vor dem Schnauben des Odems deiner Nase!
16 He sent from on high, and he accepted me. And he took me up, out of many waters.
Er langte herab aus der Höhe, ergriff mich, zog mich aus großen Wassern.
17 He rescued me from my strongest enemies, and from those who hated me. For they had been too strong for me.
Er entriß mich meinem starken Feinde und meinen Hassern, weil sie mir zu mächtig waren.
18 They intercepted me in the day of my affliction, and the Lord became my protector.
Sie überfielen mich an meinem Unglückstag, aber Jahwe ward meine Stütze.
19 And he led me out, into a wide place. He accomplished my salvation, because he willed me.
Er führte mich heraus in freien Raum, riß mich heraus, weil er Wohlgefallen an mir hatte.
20 And the Lord will reward me according to my justice, and he will repay me according to the purity of my hands.
Jahwe erweist mir nach meiner Gerechtigkeit, nach der Reinheit meiner Hände vergilt er mir.
21 For I have preserved the ways of the Lord, and I have not behaved impiously before my God.
Denn ich hielt inne die Wege Jahwes und frevelte nicht gegen meinen Gott.
22 For all his judgments are in my sight, and his justice, I have not pushed away from me.
Denn alle seine Rechte sind mir gegenwärtig, und seine Satzungen schob ich nicht beiseite.
23 And I will be immaculate together with him, and I will keep myself from my iniquity.
Ich war redlich gegen ihn und hütete mich vor meiner Verschuldung.
24 And the Lord will reward me according to my justice and according to the purity of my hands before his eyes.
Da vergalt mir Jahwe nach meiner Gerechtigkeit, nach der Reinheit meiner Hände vor seinen Augen.
25 With the holy, you will be holy, and with the innocent, you will be innocent,
Gegen den Liebreichen zeigst du dich liebreich, gegen den Redlichen zeigst du dich redlich,
26 and with the elect, you will be elect, and with the perverse, you will be perverse.
gegen den Lauteren zeigst du dich lauter und gegen den Verkehrten zeigst du dich verdreht.
27 For you will save the humble people, but you will bring down the eyes of the arrogant.
Denn du schaffst Hilfe gedrücktem Volk, aber hoffärtige Augen erniedrigst du.
28 For you illuminate my lamp, O Lord. My God, enlighten my darkness.
Denn du lässest meine Leuchte scheinen; Jahwe, mein Gott, erhellt meine Finsternis.
29 For in you, I will be delivered from temptation; and with my God, I will climb over a wall.
Denn durch dich zerbreche ich Mauern und mit meinem Gotte springe ich über Wälle.
30 As for my God, his way is undefiled. The eloquence of the Lord has been examined by fire. He is the protector of all who hope in him.
Gottes Weg ist vollkommen! Das Wort Jahwes ist durchläuert: ein Schild ist er allen, die bei ihm Zuflucht suchen.
31 For who is God, except the Lord? And who is God, except our God?
Denn wer ist Gott außer Jahwe, und wer ein Hort außer unserem Gott?
32 It is God who has wrapped me with virtue and made my way immaculate.
Dem Gott, der mich mit Stärke gürtet und meinen Weg eben macht;
33 It is he who has perfected my feet, like the feet of deer, and who stations me upon the heights.
der meine Füße den Hindinnen gleich macht und mich auf Höhen stellt,
34 It is he who trains my hands for battle. And you have set my arms like a bow of brass.
der meine Hände streiten lehrt, daß meine Arme den ehernen Bogen spannen.
35 And you have given me the protection of your salvation. And your right hand sustains me. And your discipline has corrected me unto the end. And your discipline itself will teach me.
Und du gabst mir den Schild deines Heils und deine Rechte stützte mich, und deine Herablassung machte mich groß.
36 You have expanded my footsteps under me, and my tracks have not been weakened.
Du machtest weiten Raum für meinen Schritt, und meine Knöchel wankten nicht.
37 I will pursue my enemies and apprehend them. And I will not turn back until they have failed.
Ich verfolgte meine Feinde und holte sie ein und kehrte nicht um, bis ich sie vernichtet.
38 I will break them, and they will not be able to stand. They will fall under my feet.
Ich zerschmetterte sie, daß sie nicht mehr aufstehen konnten, dahinsanken unter meine Füße.
39 And you have wrapped me with virtue for the battle. And those rising up against me, you have subdued under me.
Du gürtetest mich mit Stärke zum Streit, beugtest meine Widersacher unter mich.
40 And you have given the back of my enemies to me, and you have destroyed those who hated me.
Du ließest meine Feinde vor mir fliehen, und meine Hasser - die rottete ich aus!
41 They cried out, but there was none to save them, to the Lord, but he did not heed them.
Sie schrieen - aber da war kein Helfer, zu Jahwe - aber er antwortete ihnen nicht.
42 And I will crush them into dust before the face of the wind, so that I will obliterate them like the mud in the streets.
Und ich zermalmte sie wie Staub vor dem Winde, wie Gassenkot leerte ich sie aus.
43 You will rescue me from the contradictions of the people. You will set me at the head of the Gentiles.
Du errettetest mich aus Völkerfehden, setztest mich zum Haupte der Heiden: Leute, die ich nicht kannte, wurden mir unterthan.
44 A people I did not know has served me. As soon as their ears heard, they were obedient to me.
Aufs Hörensagen gehorchen sie mir, die Söhne der Fremde schmeicheln mir.
45 The sons of foreigners have been deceitful to me, the sons of foreigners have grown weak with time, and they have wavered from their paths.
Die Söhne der Fremde schmachten dahin und zittern hervor aus ihren Schlössern.
46 The Lord lives, and blessed is my God, and may the God of my salvation be exalted:
Es lebt Jahwe und gepriesen ist mein Hort, und hoch erhaben der Gott meines Heils;
47 O God, who vindicates me and who subdues the people under me, my liberator from my enraged enemies.
der Gott, der mir Rache gab und die Völker unter mich trieb,
48 And you will exalt me above those who rise up against me. From the iniquitous man, you will rescue me.
der mich herausriß aus meinen Feinden, und über meine Widersacher erhöhtest du mich; vor dem gewaltthätigen Mann errettetest du mich.
49 Because of this, O Lord, I will confess to you among the nations, and I will compose a psalm to your name:
Darum will ich dich preisen, Jahwe, unter den Heiden und deinem Namen singen,
50 magnifying the salvation of his king, and showing mercy to David, his Christ, and to his offspring, even for all time.
der seinem Könige großes Heil verleiht und seinem Gesalbten Huld erweist, David und seinem Samen bis in Ewigkeit!
