Philippians 1
1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons.
Paulo e Timóteo, servos de Cristo Jesus, a todos os santos em Cristo Jesus, que estão em Filipos, com os supervisores e servidores.
2 Grace and peace to you, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Haja convosco a graça e paz de Deus nosso Pai, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo.
3 I give thanks to my God, with every remembrance of you,
Agradeço ao meu Deus todas as vezes que me lembro de vós,
4 always, in all my prayers, making supplication for all of you with joy,
sempre em todas as minhas orações, com alegria, fazendo oração por todos vós,
5 because of your communion in the Gospel of Christ, from the first day even until now.
por causa da vossa cooperação com o Evangelho desde o primeiro dia até agora.
6 I am confident of this very thing: that he who has begun this good work in you will perfect it, unto the day of Christ Jesus.
E disto tenho certeza: aquele que começou a boa obra em vós irá completá-la até o dia de Cristo Jesus.
7 So then, it is right for me to feel this way about all of you, because I hold you in my heart, and because, in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel, you all are partakers of my joy.
Para mim é justo eu sentir isso de todos vós, pois vos tenho no coração, porque todos vós sois participantes comigo da graça, tanto nas minhas prisões, como na defesa e confirmação do Evangelho.
8 For God is my witness how, within the heart of Jesus Christ, I long for all of you.
Pois Deus é minha testemunha de como sinto saudades de todos vós, com o afeto de Jesus Cristo.
9 And this I pray: that your charity may abound more and more, with knowledge and with all understanding,
E isto oro: que o vosso amor seja mais e mais abundante em conhecimento e em toda percepção,
10 so that you may be confirmed in what is better, in order that you may be sincere and without offense on the day of Christ:
para que aproveis as melhores coisas, a fim de que sejais sinceros, sem ofensa, até o dia de Cristo;
11 filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus Christ, in the glory and praise of God.
cheios do fruto da justiça, que, por meio de Jesus Cristo, é para glória e louvor a Deus.
12 Now, brothers, I want you to know that the things concerning me happened for the advancement of the Gospel,
Mas quero, irmãos, que saibais que as coisas me aconteceram foram para o avanço do Evangelho,
13 in such a way that my chains have become manifest in Christ in every place of judgment and in all other such places.
de maneira que se tornou evidente a toda a guarda pretoriana, e a todos os demais, que as minhas prisões são em Cristo;
14 And many from among the brothers in the Lord, becoming confident through my chains, are now much bolder in speaking the Word of God without fear.
e que a maioria dos irmãos no Senhor, depois de ganharem confiança com as minhas prisões, ousam falar a Palavra de Deus muito mais, sem medo.
15 Certainly, some do so even because of envy and contention; and others, too, do so because of a good will to preach Christ.
É verdade que também alguns pregam a Cristo por inveja e rivalidade, porém outros, também, de boa vontade.
16 Some act out of charity, knowing that I have been appointed for the defense of the Gospel.
Uns em verdade anunciam a Cristo por amor, sabendo que fui posto para a defesa do Evangelho.
17 But others, out of contention, announce Christ insincerely, claiming that their difficulties lift them up to my chains.
Mas outros [anunciam] por rivalidade egoísta, não sinceramente, supondo que irão acrescentar aflição às minhas prisões.
18 But what does it matter? As long as, by every means, whether under pretext or in truthfulness, Christ is announced. And about this, I rejoice, and moreover, I will continue to rejoice.
Que, pois? Contanto que de qualquer maneira, ou com fingimento, ou em verdade, Cristo seja anunciado; e nisto me alegro, e continuarei a me alegrar;
19 For I know that this will bring me to salvation, through your prayers and under the ministration of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
pois sei que isso me resultará em livramento pela vossa oração e pelo socorro do Espírito de Jesus Cristo;
20 by means of my own expectation and hope. For in nothing shall I be confounded. Instead, with all confidence, now just as always, Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
conforme a minha intensa expectativa e esperança, de que em nada me envergonharei. Ao contrário, com toda a confiança, como sempre, assim também agora Cristo será engrandecido no meu corpo, seja pela vida, seja pela morte.
21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Pois, para mim, o viver é Cristo, e o morrer é lucro.
22 And while I live in the flesh, for me, there is the fruit of works. But I do not know which I would choose.
Mas, se este viver na carne for o fruto do meu trabalho, então não sei o que prefiro,
23 For I am constrained between the two: having a desire to be dissolved and to be with Christ, which is the far better thing,
pois estou pressionado por ambos [os lados]: tenho desejo de ser desligado, e estar com Cristo, o que é muito melhor;
24 but then to remain in the flesh is necessary for your sake.
entretanto, ficar na carne é mais necessário por causa de vós.
25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall remain and that I shall continue to remain with all of you, for your advancement and for your joy in the faith,
E nisto confio e sei, que ficarei, e continuarei com todos vós, para que avanceis, e vos alegreis na fé;
26 so that your rejoicing may abound in Christ Jesus for me, through my return to you again.
a fim de que a vossa alegria em Cristo Jesus seja abundante, por causa de mim, através da minha presença, de volta, convosco.
27 Only let your behavior be worthy of the Gospel of Christ, so that, whether I return and see you, or whether, being absent, I hear about you, still you may stand firm with one spirit, with one mind, laboring together for the faith of the Gospel.
Tão somente procedei de maneira digna do Evangelho de Cristo, para que, seja quando eu venha e vos veja, seja ausente, ouça a vosso respeito de que estais num mesmo espírito, com um mesmo ânimo, combatendo juntos pela fé do Evangelho;
28 And in nothing be terrified by the adversaries. For what is to them an occasion of perdition, is to you an occasion of salvation, and this is from God.
e que em nada vos amedronteis pelos adversários, o que para eles é, de fato, indício de perdição, mas para vós de salvação, e isso vem de Deus.
29 For this has been given to you on behalf of Christ, not only so that you may believe in him, but even so that you may suffer with him,
Pois vos foi dado gratuitamente, quanto a Cristo, não somente o crer nele, mas também o sofrer por ele,
30 engaging in the same struggle, of a kind which you also have seen in me, and which you now have heard from me.
de maneira que tendes o mesmo combate, que vistes em mim, e agora de mim ouvis.
