Numbers 12
1 And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, because of his wife, an Ethiopian,
Miriam et Aaron parlèrent contre Moïse à cause de la femme de Cuschi qu'il avait épousée, car il avait épousé une femme de Cuschi.
2 and they said: “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Has he not also spoken similarly to us?” And when the Lord had heard this,
Ils dirent: « Yahvé n'a-t-il parlé qu'à Moïse? N'a-t-il pas parlé aussi avec nous? » Et Yahvé les entendit.
3 (for Moses was a man exceedingly meek, beyond all the men who were living upon the earth)
Or, l'homme Moïse était très humble, plus que tous les hommes qui étaient à la surface de la terre.
4 immediately he spoke to him, and to Aaron and Miriam, “Go out, you three only, to the tabernacle of the covenant.” And when they had gone out,
Yahvé parla soudain à Moïse, à Aaron et à Miriam: « Vous trois, sortez de la tente de la Rencontre! » Ils sortirent tous les trois.
5 the Lord descended in a column of cloud, and he stood at the entrance of the tabernacle, calling to Aaron and Miriam. And when they had advanced,
Yahvé descendit dans une colonne de nuée et se tint à l'entrée de la Tente. Il appela Aaron et Miriam, qui s'avancèrent tous deux.
6 he said to them: “Listen to my words. If there will be among you a prophet of the Lord, I will appear to him in a vision, or I will speak to him through a dream.
Il dit: « Écoutez maintenant mes paroles. S'il y a un prophète parmi vous, moi, Yahvé, je me ferai connaître à lui dans une vision. Je lui parlerai en songe.
7 But it is not so with my servant Moses, who is the most faithful in all my house.
Ce n'est pas le cas de mon serviteur Moïse. Il est fidèle dans toute ma maison.
8 For I speak with him mouth to mouth, and plainly. And not through enigmas and figures does he perceive the Lord. Therefore, why were you not afraid to disparage my servant Moses?”
Avec lui, je parlerai bouche à bouche, en clair et non en énigmes, et il verra la forme de Yahvé. Pourquoi donc n'avez-vous pas craint de parler contre mon serviteur, contre Moïse? ».
9 And being angry against them, he went away.
La colère de Yahvé s'enflamma contre eux, et il s'en alla.
10 Likewise, the cloud which was over the tabernacle withdrew. And behold, Miriam appeared to be white with a leprosy, like snow. And when Aaron had looked upon her, and he had seen the spreading of the leprosy,
La nuée se retira de dessus la tente; et voici, Miriam était lépreuse, blanche comme la neige. Aaron regarda Miriam, et voici qu'elle était lépreuse.
11 he said to Moses: “I beg you, my lord, not to impose upon us this sin, which we have committed foolishly.
Aaron dit à Moïse: « Oh, mon seigneur, ne nous compte pas ce péché, dans lequel nous avons fait des folies et dans lequel nous avons péché.
12 Do not let this one be like one who is dead, or like an abortion that has been cast from the womb of her mother. Behold, half of her flesh is already consumed by leprosy.”
Qu'elle ne soit pas, je t'en prie, comme un mort dont la chair est à moitié consumée lorsqu'il sort du ventre de sa mère. »
13 And Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “O God, I beg you: heal her.”
Moïse cria à Yahvé en disant: « Guéris-la, Dieu, je t'en supplie! »
14 And the Lord answered him: “If her father had spit on her face, should she not have been filled with shame for at least seven days? Let her be separated, outside the camp, for seven days, and after that, she will be called back.”
Yahvé dit à Moïse: « Si son père lui a craché au visage, ne devrait-elle pas avoir honte pendant sept jours? Qu'elle soit enfermée hors du camp pendant sept jours, et après cela elle sera ramenée. »
15 And so Miriam was excluded from the camp for seven days. And the people did not move from that place, until Miriam was called back.
Miriam fut enfermée hors du camp pendant sept jours, et le peuple ne voyagea pas jusqu'à ce que Miriam ait été ramenée.
16 And the people set out from Hazeroth, and they pitched their tents in the desert of Paran.
Ensuite, le peuple partit de Hatséroth et campa dans le désert de Paran.
