Malachi 2
1 And now, O priests, this command is to you.
“Ahora, sacerdotes, este mandamiento es para ustedes.
2 If you will refuse to listen, and if you will refuse to take it to heart, so as to give glory to my name, says the Lord of hosts, I will send destitution upon you, and I will curse your blessings; yes, I will curse them. For you have not taken it to heart.
Si no escuchan, y si no lo toman a pecho, para dar gloria a mi nombre — dice el Señor de los Ejércitos —, entonces enviaré la maldición sobre ustedes, y maldeciré sus bendiciones. De hecho, ya las he maldecido, porque no te lo tomas a pecho.
3 Behold, I will cast forth an arm to you, and I will scatter across your face the dung of your solemnities, and it will take you to itself.
He aquí que reprenderé a tu descendencia, y esparciré estiércol sobre tus rostros, el estiércol de tus fiestas, y serás llevado con él.
4 And you will know that I sent you this commandment, so that my covenant might be with Levi, says the Lord of hosts.
Sabrás que te he enviado este mandamiento, para que mi pacto sea con Leví”, dice el Señor de los Ejércitos.
5 My covenant was with him for life and peace. And I gave him fear, and he feared me, and he was afraid before the face of my name.
“Mi pacto fue con él de vida y de paz, y se los di para que fuera reverente hacia mí; y él fue reverente hacia mí, y estuvo en temor de mi nombre.
6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and integrity, and he turned away many from iniquity.
La ley de la verdad estaba en su boca, y la injusticia no se hallaba en sus labios. Anduvo conmigo en paz y rectitud, y apartó a muchos de la iniquidad.
7 For the lips of the priests will keep knowledge, and they will request the law from his mouth, because he is an angel of the Lord of hosts.
Porque los labios del sacerdote deben guardar el conocimiento, y deben buscar la ley en su boca; porque él es el mensajero de Yahvé de los Ejércitos.
8 But you have withdrawn from the way, and you have scandalized very many in the law. You have nullified the covenant of Levi, says the Lord of hosts.
Pero tú te has apartado del camino. Has hecho tropezar a muchos en la ley. Has corrompido el pacto de Leví”, dice el Señor de los Ejércitos.
9 Because of this, I also have made you contemptible and debased to all the people, just as you have not served my ways, and you have accepted a face in the law.
“Por eso también te he hecho despreciable y malvado ante todo el pueblo, según la forma en que no has guardado mis caminos, sino que has tenido respeto a las personas en la ley.
10 Is there not one Father of us all? Did not one God create us? Why, then, does each one of us despise his brother, violating the covenant of our fathers?
¿No tenemos todos un solo padre? ¿No nos ha creado un solo Dios? ¿Por qué traicionamos cada uno a su hermano, profanando el pacto de nuestros padres?
11 Judah has transgressed, and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has contaminated the sanctified of the Lord, which he loved, and has held the daughter of a strange god.
Judá ha actuado con traición, y se ha cometido una abominación en Israel y en Jerusalén; porque Judá ha profanado la santidad de Yahvé que ama, y se ha casado con la hija de un dios extranjero.
12 The Lord will drive away the man who has done this, both the teacher and the disciple, from the tabernacles of Jacob and from those offering a gift to the Lord of hosts.
Yahvé cortará al hombre que haga esto, al que despierte y al que responda, de las tiendas de Jacob y al que ofrezca una ofrenda a Yahvé de los Ejércitos.
13 And you have done this repeatedly: you have covered the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping and bellowing, to such an extent that I no longer have respect towards the sacrifice, nor do I accept any appeasement that is from your hands.
“Otra vez haces esto: cubres el altar de Yahvé con lágrimas, con llanto y con suspiros, porque él ya no considera la ofrenda ni la recibe con buena voluntad de tu mano.
14 And you have said, “What is the reason for this?” It is because the Lord has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, whom you have despised. Yet she was your partner, and the wife of your covenant.
Pero tú dices: “¿Por qué?” Porque Yahvé ha sido testigo entre tú y la esposa de tu juventud, contra la cual has actuado con traición, aunque es tu compañera y la esposa de tu pacto.
15 Did not One make her, and is she not the remainder of his spirit? And what does one seek, except offspring of God? So then, preserve your spirit, and do not despise the wife of your youth.
¿Acaso no os hizo uno, aunque tenía el residuo del Espíritu? ¿Por qué uno? Buscaba una descendencia piadosa. Por lo tanto, tened cuidado con vuestro espíritu, y que nadie trate a traición a la mujer de su juventud.
16 If you would hold hatred, dismiss her, says the Lord, the God of Israel. But iniquity will cover his garment, says the Lord of hosts. Preserve your spirit, and do not be willing to despise.
El que odia y se divorcia”, dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, “¡cubre su manto con violencia!”, dice Yahvé de los Ejércitos. “Por eso, presta atención a tu espíritu, para que no seas infiel.
17 You have wearied the Lord with your speeches, and you have said, “In what way, have we wearied him?” In that you say, “Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and such as these please him,” or certainly, “Where is the God of judgment?”
Ustedes han cansado a Yahvé con sus palabras. Sin embargo, decís: ‘¿Cómo lo hemos fatigado? En eso decís: ‘Todo el que hace el mal es bueno a los ojos de Yahvé, y él se deleita en ellos’; o ‘¿Dónde está el Dios de la justicia?’
