< Luke 10 >

1 Then, after these things, the Lord also designated another seventy-two. And he sent them in pairs before his face, into every city and place where he was to arrive.
After these things the Lord chose seventy others also, and sent them out two by two before His face, into every place and city, where He was about to come.
2 And he said to them: “Certainly the harvest is great, but the workers are few. Therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers into his harvest.
And He said to them, The harvest is indeed great, but the laborers are few: therefore pray you the Lord of the harvest, that He may send forth laborers into His harvest.
3 Go forth. Behold, I send you out like lambs among wolves.
Go: behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves.
4 Do not choose to carry a purse, nor provisions, nor shoes; and you shall greet no one along the way.
Take neither purse, nor valise, nor sandals: salute no one by the way.
5 Into whatever house you will have entered, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’
Into whatsoever house you may enter, first say, Peace be unto this house.
6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you.
And if the son of peace may be there, your peace shall rest upon it: but if not, it shall return unto you.
7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking the things that are with them. For the worker is worthy of his pay. Do not choose to pass from house to house.
Abide in the same house, eating and drinking those things which are with them: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
8 And into whatever city you have entered and they have received you, eat what they set before you.
Into whatsoever city you may enter and they may receive you, eat those things which are placed by you:
9 And cure the sick who are in that place, and proclaim to them, ‘The kingdom of God has drawn near to you.’
and heal the sick who are in it, and say to them, The kingdom of God has come nigh unto you.
10 But into whatever city you have entered and they have not received you, going out into its main streets, say:
And into whatsoever city you may enter, and they may not receive you, having come out into the streets of the same, say,
11 ‘Even the dust which clings to us from your city, we wipe away against you. Yet know this: the kingdom of God has drawn near.’
Even the dust from your city, that cleaveth to our feet, do we wipe off against you: but know this, that the kingdom of God is at hand.
12 I say to you, that in that day, Sodom will be forgiven more than that city will be.
For I say unto you, that it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.
13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that have been wrought in you, had been wrought in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in haircloth and ashes.
Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works which were wrought in you had been in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting down in sackcloth and ashes.
14 Yet truly, Tyre and Sidon will be forgiven more in the judgment than you will be.
Moreover it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.
15 And as for you, Capernaum, who would be exalted even up to Heaven: you shall be submerged into Hell. (Hadēs g86)
And thou, Capernaum, art thou not exalted up to heaven? thou shalt be cast down to Hades. (Hadēs g86)
16 Whoever hears you, hears me. And whoever despises you, despises me. And whoever despises me, despises him who sent me.”
He that heareth you heareth me; he that rejecteth you rejecteth me; and he that rejecteth me rejecteth Him that sent me.
17 Then the seventy-two returned with gladness, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us, in your name.”
And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subordinated to us in thy name.
18 And he said to them: “I was watching as Satan fell like lightning from heaven.
And He said to them, I saw Satan having fallen as the lightning from heaven.
19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and upon all the powers of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.
Behold I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you.
20 Yet truly, do not choose to rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Moreover do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice that your names are written in the heavens.
21 In the same hour, he exulted in the Holy Spirit, and he said: “I confess to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the prudent, and have revealed them to little ones. It is so, Father, because this way was pleasing before you.
At the same hour He rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of the heaven and the earth, because thou hast hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and revealed them to babes: yea, Father, because it was thus pleasing in thy sight.
22 All things have been delivered to me by my Father. And no one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and those to whom the Son has chosen to reveal him.”
And turning to His disciples, He said, All things have been delivered to me by my Father: and no one knoweth who the Son is, except the Father; and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whom He may wish to reveal Him.
23 And turning to his disciples, he said: “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
And turning to His disciples, privately He said, Happy are your eyes, seeing those things which you see.
24 For I say to you, that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things that you see, and they did not see them, and to hear the things that you hear, and they did not hear them.”
For I say unto you, that many kings and prophets desired to see those things which you see, and saw them not; and to hear those things which you hear, and heard them not.
25 And behold, a certain expert in the law rose up, testing him and saying, “Teacher, what must I do to possess eternal life?” (aiōnios g166)
And behold, a certain lawyer stood up tempting Him, saying, Teacher, having done what shall I inherit eternal life? (aiōnios g166)
26 But he said to him: “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”
He said to him, What has been written in the law? how do you read it?
27 In response, he said: “You shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart, and from your whole soul, and from all your strength, and from all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
And he responding said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with divine love from all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.
28 And he said to him: “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live.”
And He said to him, You answered correctly: do this, and you shall live.
29 But since he wanted to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?
30 Then Jesus, taking this up, said: “A certain man descended from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he happened upon robbers, who now also plundered him. And inflicting him with wounds, they went away, leaving him behind, half-alive.
Jesus responding said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and fell among thieves, who indeed having stripped him of his raiment, administered blows, went away, leaving him half dead.
31 And it happened that a certain priest was descending along the same way. And seeing him, he passed by.
And by chance a certain priest came down that way: and seeing him, passed by on the other side.
32 And similarly a Levite, when he was near the place, also saw him, and he passed by.
And likewise also a Levite, being at the place, coming and seeing, passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, being on a journey, came near him. And seeing him, he was moved by mercy.
And a certain Samaritan, on a journey, came near him: and seeing, had compassion on him,
34 And approaching him, he bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. And setting him on his pack animal, he brought him to an inn, and he took care of him.
and having come to him, he bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine: and having mounted him on his own beast, carried him to a tavern, and cared for him.
35 And the next day, he took out two denarii, and he gave them to the proprietor, and he said: ‘Take care of him. And whatever extra you will have spent, I will repay to you at my return.’
And on the morrow, taking out two denaria, gave them to the host, and said, Care for him; and whatsoever you expend in addition, on my return, I will pay you.
36 Which of these three, does it seem to you, was a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?”
Which one of these three seems to you to have been the neighbor of him who fell among the thieves?
37 Then he said, “The one who acted with mercy toward him.” And Jesus said to him, “Go, and act similarly.”
And he said, The one having done mercy with him. And Jesus said to him, Go, thou, and do likewise.
38 Now it happened that, while they were traveling, he entered into a certain town. And a certain woman, named Martha, received him into her home.
And it came to pass while they were going round, He also came into a certain village: and a certain woman by name Martha received Him into her house.
39 And she had a sister, named Mary, who, while sitting beside the Lord’s feet, was listening to his word.
And there was a sister to her called Mary, who indeed sitting down at the feet of the Lord, continued to hear his word:
40 Now Martha was continually busying herself with serving. And she stood still and said: “Lord, is it not a concern to you that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, speak to her, so that she may help me.”
and Martha was very busy about much serving. And standing over Him, she said, Lord, is there no care to thee that my sister has left me to serve alone? then say to her that she must assist me.
41 And the Lord responded by saying to her: “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled over many things.
And the Lord responding said to her, Martha, Martha, you are solicitous and encumbered concerning many things:
42 And yet only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the best portion, and it shall not be taken away from her.”
but there is need of one thing: for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken from her.
