Joshua 7
1 But the sons of Israel transgressed the commandment, and they usurped what was anathema. For Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, took something from what was anathema. And the Lord became angry against the sons of Israel.
Pero los hijos de Israel desobedecieron las instrucciones, de no tomar de las cosas que estaban destinadas a la destrucción: porque Acán, el hijo de Carmi, el hijo de Zabdi, el hijo de Zera, de la familia de Judá, tomaron de lo maldito, haciendo que el Señor se encolerizara contra los hijos de israel.
2 And when Joshua sent men from Jericho against Ai, which is beside Bethaven, toward the eastern region of the town of Bethel, he said to them, “Go up and explore the land.” And they fulfilled his instruction, and they explored Ai.
Josué envió a los hombres de Jericó a Hai, que está al lado de Bet-aven, en el lado este de Bet-el, y les dijo: Suban y busquen en la tierra. Y los hombres subieron y vieron cómo estaban colocados Hai.
3 And returning, they said to him: “Let not the entire people go up. Instead, let two or three thousand men go out and destroy the city. Why should all the people be troubled without cause against enemies that are so very few?”
Luego volvieron a Josué y le dijeron: No mandes a todas las personas, sino que unos dos o tres mil hombres suban y ataquen a Hai. No hay necesidad de fatigar a todas las personas yendo allí, ya que es solo una ciudad pequeña.
4 Therefore, they went up with three thousand fighters. And they promptly turned their backs,
Entonces, cerca de tres mil personas subieron, y fueron enviados en vuelo por los hombres de Hai.
5 and were struck down by the men of the city of Ai. And thirty-six men of them fell. And the adversaries pursued them from the gate, even as far as Shebarim. And they felled them as they were fleeing downward. And the heart of the people was struck with fear, and it melted like water.
Los hombres de Hai mataron a unos treinta y seis de ellos, llevándolos desde antes del pueblo hasta las canteras, y venciéndolos en el camino hacia abajo: y los corazones de la gente se desanimaron y perdieron el valor.
6 And truly, Joshua tore his garments, and he fell prone on the ground before the ark of the Lord, even until evening, both he and all the elders of Israel. And they cast dust upon their heads.
Entonces Josué, en gran dolor, descendió sobre la tierra delante del cofre del pacto hasta la tarde, y todos los jefes de Israel con él, y pusieron polvo sobre sus cabezas.
7 And Joshua said: “Alas, O Lord God! Why would you want to lead this people over the river Jordan, so that you might deliver us into the hand of the Amorite and destroy us? I wish that we had remained beyond the Jordan, as when we began.
Y Josué dijo: Oh Señor Dios, ¿por qué nos has tomado sobre el Jordán solo para entregarnos en manos de los amorreos para nuestra destrucción? ¡Si solo hubiera sido suficiente para nosotros mantenernos al otro lado del Jordán!
8 My Lord God, what shall I say, seeing Israel turning their backs to their enemies?
Oh Señor, ¿qué voy a decir ahora que Israel se ha rendido ante sus atacantes?
9 The Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and coming together as one, they will surround us, and they will wipe our name from the earth. And what will you do concerning your great name?”
Porque cuando lleguen las noticias a los cananeos y a toda la gente de la tierra, ellos subirán, y nos atacarán cortando nuestro nombre de la tierra: ¿y qué harás por el honor de tu gran nombre?
10 And the Lord said to Joshua: “Rise up. Why are you lying flat on the ground?
Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Josué: Levántate; ¿Qué estás haciendo con tu rostro a la tierra?
11 Israel has sinned and transgressed my covenant. And they have taken from what is anathema. And they have stolen and lied, and they have hidden it among their goods.
Israel ha hecho lo malo, pecando contra el acuerdo que hice con ellos: incluso tomaron de lo que estaba destinado a la destrucción; Actuando falsamente como ladrones lo han puesto entre sus bienes.
12 Israel is not able to stand before his enemies, and he will flee from them. For he has been defiled by what is anathema. I will no longer be with you, until you destroy him who is guilty of this wickedness.
Por esta razón los hijos de Israel se han rendido, tendrán que huir de sus atacantes, porque están maldecidos: ya no estaré con ustedes, si no apartan la maldición de entre ustedes.
13 Rise up. Sanctify the people. And you shall say to them: ‘Be sanctified tomorrow. For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: That which is anathema is in your midst, O Israel! You are not able to stand before your enemies, until he who has been contaminated by this wickedness is taken away from you.’
¡Arriba! santifiquen al pueblo; Diles: Haz que se santifiquen antes de mañana, porque el Señor, el Dios de Israel, ha dicho: Hay algo maldito entre ustedes, oh Israel, y no podrás estar frente a tus atacantes en la lucha hasta que haya sido destruido el anatema de entre ustedes.
14 And you shall draw near in the morning, each one by your tribes. And whichever tribe will be found by lot shall come forward by its families, and the families by houses, and the house by the men.
Por la mañana debes acercarte, tribu por tribu; y la tribu marcada por el Señor debe acercarse, familia por familia; y la familia marcada por el Señor debe acercarse, casa por casa; y la casa señalada por el Señor debe acercarse, hombre por hombre.
15 And whoever he may be that will be found guilty of this deed, he shall be burnt with fire with all his substance. For he transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and he committed a wicked act in Israel.”
Entonces el hombre que es tomado con la maldición será quemado, con todo lo que es suyo; porque él ha ido en contra el pacto del Señor y ha hecho un acto de vergüenza en Israel.
16 And so Joshua, rising in the morning, brought forth Israel by their tribes, and the tribe of Judah was found.
Entonces Josué se levantó temprano por la mañana e hizo que Israel viniera antes que él por medio de sus tribus; y la tribu de Judá fue tomada;
17 And when its families had been presented, the family of Zerah was found. Likewise, bringing that one forward by the houses, he discovered Zabdi.
Entonces hizo que Judá avanzara, y la familia de los Zera fue tomada; e hizo que la familia de los Zera se presentara hombre por hombre; y Zabdi fue tomado;
18 And dividing his house by each man, he found Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah.
Entonces vino la casa de Zabdi, hombre por hombre, y se tomó a Acán: hijo de Carmi, hijo de Zabdi, hijo de Zera, de la tribu de Judá.
19 And Joshua said to Achan: “My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and confess, and reveal to me what you have done. You may not conceal it.”
Y Josué dijo a Acán: Hijo mío, da gloria y alabanza al Señor, el Dios de Israel; Dime ahora lo que has hecho, y no me guardes nada.
20 And Achan responded to Joshua, and he said to him: “Truly, I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel, and I have done one thing and another.
Y respondiendo Acán, dijo a Josué: En verdad, he hecho algo malo contra el Señor, el Dios de Israel, y esto es lo que he hecho:
21 For I saw among the spoils a very fine scarlet cloak, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a gold bar of fifty shekels. And coveting these, I took and hid them in the ground near the middle of my tent, and I covered the silver with the soil that I had dug.”
Cuando vi entre sus bienes una bella túnica de Babilonia y doscientos siclos de plata, y una masa de oro, cincuenta siclos de peso, fui vencido por el deseo y los tomé; y los escondí en la tierra debajo de mi tienda, y la plata está debajo también.
22 Therefore, Joshua sent ministers, who, running to his tent, discovered everything hidden in the same place, together with the silver.
Entonces Josué envió a los hombres rápidamente, y al mirar en su tienda, vieron dónde se había guardado la túnica en secreto con la plata debajo.
23 And taking these from the tent, they brought them to Joshua, and to all the sons of Israel, and they cast them down before the Lord.
Y los sacaron de la tienda, y volvieron con ellos a Josué y a los hijos de Israel, y los pusieron delante del Señor.
24 And so Joshua took Achan, the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the cloak, and the gold bar, also his sons and daughters, the oxen and donkeys and sheep, and even the tent and all his goods, (and all of Israel went with him, ) and he brought these to the valley of Achor.
Entonces Josué y todo Israel tomaron a Acán, hijo de Zera, y la plata y la túnica y la masa de oro, y sus hijos y sus hijas y sus bueyes y sus asnos y sus ovejas y su tienda, y todo lo que tenía y los llevaron al valle de Acor.
25 There, Joshua said: “Because you have troubled us, the Lord troubles you, on this day.” And all of Israel stoned him. And all the things that were his were consumed by fire.
Y Josué dijo: ¿Por qué nos has disturbado? Hoy el Señor te disturbará. Y todo Israel tomó parte en apedrearlos; los apedrearon hasta la muerte y luego los quemaron con fuego.
26 And they gathered upon him a great pile of stones, which remains even to the present day. And the fury of the Lord was averted from them. And the name of that place was called the Valley of Achor, even to this day.
Y sobre él pusieron un gran montón de piedras, que está allí hasta hoy; entonces el calor de la ira del Señor fue apaciguado. Así que ese lugar fue nombrado, El Valle de Acor, hasta hoy.
