Job 5
1 Therefore call, if there are any who will respond to you, and turn to one or another of the saints.
Roep nu, zal er iemand zijn, die u antwoorde? En tot wien van de heiligen zult gij u keren?
2 Truly, anger condemns the foolish to death, and envy kills the petty.
Want den dwaze brengt de toornigheid om, en de ijver doodt den slechte.
3 I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I have cursed his excellence without hesitation.
Ik heb gezien een dwaas wortelende; doch terstond vervloekte ik zijn woning.
4 His sons will be far from prosperity and will be crushed at the gate, and there will be none who can rescue them.
Verre waren zijn zonen van heil; en zij werden verbrijzeld in de poort, en er was geen verlosser.
5 Their harvest, the starving will eat. The armed man will rob him, and the thirsty will drink his resources.
Wiens oogst de hongerige verteerde, dien hij ook tot uit de doornen gehaald had; de struikrover slokte hun vermogen in.
6 Nothing on earth occurs without a reason, and sorrow does not rise from the earth.
Want uit het stof komt het verdriet niet voort, en de moeite spruit niet uit de aarde;
7 Man is born to labor, and the bird to fly.
Maar de mens wordt tot moeite geboren; gelijk de spranken der vurige kolen zich verheffen tot vliegen.
8 Therefore, because of this, I will beg the Lord, and place my eloquence before God.
Doch ik zou naar God zoeken, en tot God mijn aanspraak richten;
9 He does great and unfathomable and miraculous things without number.
Die grote dingen doet, die men niet doorzoeken kan; wonderen, die men niet tellen kan;
10 He gives rain over the face of the earth and irrigates all things with the waters.
Die den regen geeft op de aarde, en water zendt op de straten;
11 He places the humble on high and encourages the grieving towards health.
Om de vernederden te stellen in het hoge; dat de rouwdragenden door heil verheven worden.
12 He dispels the thoughts of the spiteful, lest their hands be able to complete what they had begun.
Hij maakt te niet de gedachten der arglistigen; dat hun handen niet een ding uitrichten.
13 He catches the wise in their cleverness and dissipates the counsel of the perverse.
Hij vangt de wijzen in hun arglistigheid; dat de raad der verdraaiden gestort wordt.
14 They will encounter darkness in the daytime, and they will grope at midday just as in the night.
Des daags ontmoeten zij de duisternis, en gelijk des nachts tasten zij in den middag.
15 Thereafter, he will act to save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent.
Maar Hij verlost den behoeftige van het zwaard, van hun mond, en van de hand des sterken.
16 And there will be hope for those in need, for iniquity will diminish its speech.
Zo is voor den arme verwachting; en de boosheid stopt haar mond toe.
17 Blessed is the man whom God corrects; therefore, do not reject the chastisement of the Lord.
Zie, gelukzalig is de mens, denwelken God straft; daarom verwerp de kastijding des Almachtigen niet.
18 For he wounds and he cures; he strikes and his hands will heal.
Want Hij doet smart aan, en Hij verbindt; Hij doorwondt, en Zijn handen helen.
19 He will deliver you into six tribulations, and in the seventh, evil will not touch you.
In zes benauwdheden zal Hij u verlossen, en in de zevende zal u het kwaad niet aanroeren.
20 During famine, he will rescue you from death, and during war, from the hand of the sword.
In den honger zal Hij u verlossen van den dood, en in den oorlog van het geweld des zwaards.
21 You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and you will not fear calamity when it arrives.
Tegen den gesel der tong zult gij verborgen wezen, en gij zult niet vrezen voor de verwoesting, als zij komt.
22 In desolation and in famine, you will laugh, and you will not dread the beasts of the earth.
Tegen de verwoesting en tegen den honger zult gij lachen, en voor het gedierte der aarde zult gij niet vrezen.
23 For you are in harmony with the stones of the land, and the beasts of the earth will make peace with you.
Want met de stenen des velds zal uw verbond zijn, en het gedierte des velds zal met u bevredigd zijn.
24 And you will know that your home has peace, and, concerning your appearance, you will not sin.
En gij zult bevinden, dat uw tent in vrede is; en gij zult uw woning verzorgen, en zult niet feilen.
25 Likewise, you will know that your offspring will be manifold and your progeny will be like the grass of the earth.
Ook zult gij bevinden, dat uw zaad menigvuldig wezen zal, en uw spruiten als het kruid der aarde.
26 You will enter the grave with abundance, just as a crop of wheat is gathered in its time.
Gij zult in ouderdom ten grave komen, gelijk de korenhoop te zijner tijd opgevoerd wordt.
27 Behold, this is just as we have found it, which you have heard; walk it through your mind.
Zie dit, wij hebben het doorzocht, het is alzo; hoor het, en bemerk gij het voor u.
