< Jeremiah 48 >
1 Against Moab, thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Woe upon Nebo! For it has been devastated and confounded. Kiriathaim has been seized; the strong one has been confounded and has trembled.
ʻOku folofola pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli ki Moape; “ʻE malaʻia ʻa Nipo! He kuo maumau ia: kuo veuveuki mo kapa ʻa Kiliateimi: pea kuo maveuveu mo puputuʻu ʻa Misikapi.
2 There is no longer any rejoicing in Moab over Heshbon. They have devised evil. ‘Come and let us destroy it as a nation.’ Then you will be utterly silenced, and the sword will pursue you.
ʻE ʻikai toe fakaongolelei ʻa Moape: kuo nau fakakaukau kovi ki ai ʻi Hesiponi; ([ʻo pehē], ) ‘Ke tau tuʻusi ia ke ʻoua naʻa kei puleʻanga ia.’ Pea ʻe tuʻusi foki ʻa koe Matimena: ʻe tuli koe ʻe he heletā.
3 A voice of clamor from Horonaim: devastation and great destruction!
Kuo ongo mai ʻae leʻo ʻoe tangi mei Holonaimi, ‘Ko e maumauʻi mo e fakaʻauha lahi.’
4 Moab has been crushed. Announce an outcry for her little ones.
Kuo fakaʻauha ʻa Moape; kuo tangi ke ongo ʻa hono kakai iiki.
5 For, along the ascent of Luhith, the mourner will ascend with weeping. For, on the descent of Horonaim, the enemies have heard the wailing of devastation.
Koeʻuhi ʻi he ʻalu hake ʻa Luiti te nau ʻalu hake mo e tangi maʻuaipē: he kuo fanongo ʻae fili ki he tangi ʻoe fakaʻauha ʻi he ʻalu hifo ʻa Holonaimi.
6 Flee, save your lives! And you shall be like a saltcedar tree in the desert.
Mou hola, pea fakahaofi hoʻomou moʻui, ka te mou hangē ko e ʻakau taʻehanolau ʻi he toafa.
7 For because you have had faith in your fortifications and in your storehouses, you too will be seized. And Chemosh will go into captivity: his priests and his leaders together.
“He koeʻuhi kuo ke falala ki hoʻo ngaahi ngāue, mo hoʻo ngaahi koloa, ʻe lavaʻi ai foki koe: pea ʻe ʻalu ki he fakapōpula ʻa Kimosi, mo ʻene kau taulaʻeiki mo hono houʻeiki fakataha.
8 And the despoiler will overwhelm every city, and not a single city will be saved. And the valleys will perish, and the fields will be destroyed. For the Lord has spoken.
Pea ʻe hoko ʻae tangata maumau ki he kolo kotoa pē, pea ʻe ʻikai ʻaupito hao ha kolo ʻe taha: ʻe malaʻia ʻae teleʻa, pea ʻe fakaʻauha mo e toafa, ʻo hangē ko e folofola ʻa Sihova.
9 Give a blossom to Moab. For it will depart when it is blossoming. And its cities will become desolate and uninhabited.
Foaki ʻae kapakau ki Moape, koeʻuhi ke ne hola ʻo ʻalu: he kuo lala hono ngaahi kolo, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha taha ke nofo ai.”
10 Cursed is he who does the work of the Lord deceitfully. And cursed is he who prohibits his sword from blood.
“ʻE malaʻia ia ʻoku ne fai ʻae ngāue ʻa Sihova ʻi he kākā, pea ʻe malaʻia ia ʻoku taʻofi ʻene heletā mei he toto.
11 Moab has been fertile from his youth, and he has rested amid his brood. And he has not been transferred from vessel to vessel, nor has he gone into the transmigration. Therefore, his taste has remained with him, and his scent has not changed.
“Kuo fakafiemālie ʻa Moape talu ʻene kei siʻi, pea kuo toka hifo ki hono takele, pea naʻe ʻikai fakatafe mei he ipu ki he ipu, pea naʻe ʻikai ʻave ia ki he fakapōpula: ko ia ʻoku maʻu ʻiate ia hono ifo, pea ʻoku ʻikai fakakehe hono nanamu.
12 Because of this, behold, the days are approaching, says the Lord, when I will send to him those who will line up and knock down his bottles, and they will knock him down and empty his vessels, and they will break their bottles against one another.
Ko ia ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Vakai, ʻoku haʻu ʻae ngaahi ʻaho, ʻaia te u fekau ai ʻae kau fakahē, pea te nau fakahēʻi ia, pea fakatafe ʻene ngaahi ipu, pea maumau ʻenau ngaahi hina.
13 And Moab will be confounded by Chemosh, just as the house of Israel was shamed by Bethel, in which they had faith.
Pea ʻe mā ʻa Moape ia Kimosi, ʻo hangē ko e mā ʻae fale ʻo ʻIsileli ki Peteli ko honau falalaʻanga.
14 How can you say: ‘We are strong and robust men of battle?’
“Pea ʻoku fēfē hoʻomou lea pehē, ‘ʻOku mau mālohi ko e kau tangata mālohi ki he tau?’
15 Moab has been devastated, and they have cut down her cities. And her elect young men have descended to slaughter. So says the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.
Kuo maumau ʻa Moape, pea kuo ʻalu hake ia ʻi hono ngaahi kolo, pea kuo ʻalu hifo ki he tāmateʻi ʻa hono kau talavou kuo fili,” ʻoku pehē, ʻe he tuʻi, ʻaia ko hono huafa ko Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau.
16 The passing away of Moab draws near and arrives. Its evil will rush forward with great speed.
“Kuo ofi ʻene hoko mai ʻae tuʻutāmaki ʻa Moape, pea ʻoku fakatoʻotoʻo mai ʻa hono mamahi.
17 Console him, all you who surround him and all you who know his name. Say: ‘How has the strong staff become broken, the glorious staff?’
Ko kimoutolu kotoa pē ʻoku nonofo mo ia, mou mamahi koeʻuhi ko ia, pea ko kimoutolu kotoa pē ʻoku ʻilo hono hingoa, mou pehē, ‘ʻOiauē! ʻAe fesiʻi ʻae tokotoko mālohi, pea mo e vaʻa matamatalelei!’
18 Descend from your glory, and sit in thirst, O habitation of the daughter of Dibon! For the destroyer of Moab has ascended to you; he has dissipated your fortifications.
“Ke ke ʻalu hifo mei ho nāunau, pea nofo fieinua, ʻa koe ko e ʻofefine ʻaia ʻoku nofo ʻi Tiponi; he kuo hoko kiate koe ʻae maumau ʻo Moape, pea te ne fakaʻauha hoʻo ngaahi potu mālohi.
19 Stand in the way, and gaze out, O habitation of Aroer! Question him who is fleeing, and say to him who has escaped: ‘What has happened?’
ʻA koe ʻoku ke nofo ʻi ʻAloeli, Ke ke tuʻu ʻi he veʻehala mo leʻo; pea fehuʻi kiate ia ʻoku hola, pea mo ia ʻoku hao, ʻo pehē, ‘Ko e hā ʻae meʻa kuo fai?’
20 Moab has been confounded, because he has been conquered. Wail and cry out! Announce it in Arnon: Moab has been devastated,
Kuo veuveuki ʻa Moape; he kuo holoki hifo ia: mou tangilāulau pea tangi lahi, mou fakahā ia ʻi ʻAlanoni, kuo maumauʻi ʻa Moape.
21 and judgment has arrived upon the land of the plains: upon Holon, and upon Jahzah, and upon Mephaath,
Kuo hoko ʻae tautea ki he fonua tokalelei; ki Holoni, mo Sehasa, pea mo Mefata.
22 and upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon the house of Deblathaim,
Pea mo Tiponi, mo Nipo, pea mo Petetipilateimi,
23 and upon Kiriathaim, and upon the house of Gamul, and upon the house of Meon,
Pea mo Kiliateimi, mo Petekamuli, pea mo Petemioni,
24 and upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, those far away and those nearby.
Pea mo Kiliote, mo Posila, pea ki he ngaahi kolo kotoa pē ʻi he fonua ʻo Moape, pe ko e mamaʻo pe ko e ofi.
25 The horn of Moab has been cut away, and his arm has been crushed, says the Lord.
Kuo tuʻusi ʻae nifo ʻo Moape, pea kuo fesiʻi hono nima, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.”
26 Inebriate him, for he has lifted himself up against the Lord. And Moab will thrust his hand into his own vomit, and also now he himself will become a derision.
“Mou fakakona ia: he kuo ne fakahikihiki ʻe ia ia kia Sihova: ʻe fetafokifokiʻaki foki ʻa Moape ʻi heʻene lua, pea ʻe hoko ia foki ko e manukiʻanga.
27 For Israel had been a derision to them. It was as if you had discovered him among thieves. Because of your own words, then, which you have spoken against him, you will be led away captive.
ʻIkai naʻe hoko ʻa ʻIsileli ko e manukiʻanga kiate koe? Naʻe ʻilo ia mo e kau kaihaʻa? Koeʻuhi talu hoʻo lea ki ai, mo hoʻo hopohopo ʻi he fiefia.
28 Relinquish the cities, and live upon a rock, O inhabitants of Moab, and be like a dove nesting at the mouth of an opening at the summit.
Ko kimoutolu ʻoku nofo ʻi Moape, liʻaki ʻae ngaahi kolo, pea nofo ʻi he potu maka, pea mou hangē ko e lupe ʻoku ngaohi hono pununga ʻi he ngutu ʻoe luo.
29 We have listened to the arrogance of Moab; he is very proud: his exaltation, and arrogance, and pride, and the loftiness of his heart.
“Kuo tau fanongo ki he fielahi ʻa Moape, (ʻoku fakamanavahē ʻene fielahi) ko ʻene angahiki, mo e fieʻeiki, mo e fakamofutofuta, pea mo e laukau ʻo hono loto.
30 I myself know, says the Lord, his boasting, and that his ability is not in accord with it, nor is it in accord with what he has been striving to do.
Pea ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻOku ou ʻilo ʻene ʻita ka ʻoku ʻikai te ne faʻa fai; ʻe ʻikai te ne lavaʻi ʻi heʻene ngaahi loi.
31 For this reason, I will wail over Moab, and I will cry out to all of Moab, to the men on the brick wall who are lamenting.
Ko ia te u tangilāulau koeʻuhi ko Moape, ʻio, te u tangi koeʻuhi ko Moape, kotoa pē; Te u mamahi koeʻuhi ko e kau tangata ʻo Kilihelesi.
32 O vineyard of Sibmah, I will weep for you, with the mourning of Jazer. Your offshoots have crossed over the sea. They have reached even to the sea of Jazer. The despoiler has rushed over your harvest and your vintage.
ʻE vaine ʻo Sipima, te u tangi ʻaki ʻae tangi ʻo Sesa koeʻuhi ko koe: kuo ʻave ho huli ki tahi, ʻo aʻu ki he tahi ʻo Sesa: kuo hoko ʻae maumau ki ho ngaahi fua momoho, pea ki he fua ʻoe vaine.
33 Rejoicing and exultation has been taken away from Carmel and from the land of Moab. And I have taken the wine from the winepresses. The treader of grapes will no longer sing the usual rhythmic chant.
Pea kuo mole ʻae fiefia mo e nekeneka mei he ngoue mahu, pea mei he fonua ʻo Moape; pea kuo u fakangata ʻae uaine ʻi he tataʻoʻanga uaine: ʻe ʻikai fai ha malamalaki ʻaki ʻae kalanga; ʻoku ʻikai ko e kalanga ʻenau kalanga.
34 From the outcry of Heshbon, even to Elealeh and Jahzah, they have uttered their voice; from Zoar, even to Horonaim, like a three year old calf. So too, the waters of Nimrim will be very bad.
ʻOku ongoʻi ʻae tangi mei Hesiponi ki ʻIliale, pea kuo ongo atu honau leʻo ʻo aʻu ki Sehasi, mei Soa ʻo aʻu ki Holonaimi, ʻo hangē ko e pulu mui kuo tolu taʻu ʻa ʻene motuʻa: koeʻuhi ʻe liakiʻi ʻae ngaahi vai ʻo Nimilimi.”
35 And I will take away from Moab, says the Lord, the one who makes offerings in exalted places, and the one who sacrifices to his gods.
Ko ia ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Te u fakangata ʻi Moape, ʻaia ʻoku ne fai ʻae feilaulau ʻi he ngaahi potu māʻolunga, pea mo ia ʻoku tutu meʻa namu kakala ki hono ngaahi ʻotua.
36 Because of this, my heart will resound for Moab, like the pipes, and my heart will make a sound like the pipes for the men on the brick wall. For he has done more than he was able, yet still they have perished.
Ko ia ʻe tangi hoku loto ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi fangufangu koeʻuhi ko Moape, pea ʻe tangi hoku loto ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi fangufangu koeʻuhi ko e kau tangata ʻo Kilihelesi: koeʻuhi kuo ʻauha ʻae ngaahi koloa kuo ne maʻu.
37 For every head will be bald, and every beard will be shaved. All the hands will be bound together, and there will be haircloth on every back.
Koeʻuhi ʻe tula ʻae ʻulu kotoa pē, pea ʻe kosi ʻae kava kotoa pē: pea ʻe ʻi he nima kotoa pē ʻae ngaahi tafa, pea mo e tauangaʻa ki he kongaloto.
38 Over all the rooftops of Moab, and in its streets, everyone will mourn. For I have crushed Moab like a useless vessel, says the Lord.
ʻE ai ʻae tangilāulau lahi, ʻi he funga ʻoe ngaahi fale kotoa pē ʻo Moape, pea ʻi hono ngaahi hala: he kuo u maumauʻi ʻa Moape ʻo hangē ko e ipu, ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai fiefia ki ai ha tokotaha,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.
39 How was it conquered, so that they would wail? How is it that Moab has cast down his neck and been confounded? And Moab will be a derision and an example to everyone around him.”
Te nau tangi lahi, ʻo pehē, “ʻOiauē hono maumauʻi hifo ia! ʻOiauē ʻae fulituʻa mai ʻa Moape ʻi heʻene mā! ʻE hoko ʻa Moape ko e manukiʻanga, pea mo e meʻa fakailifia kiate kinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku takatakai ia.”
40 Thus says the Lord: “Behold, he will fly like the eagle, and he will extend his wings to Moab.
He ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova; Vakai, te ne puna ʻo hangē ko e ʻikale, pea te ne mafao atu hono kapakau ki Moape.
41 Kerioth has been captured, and the fortifications have been taken. And in that day, the heart of the strong ones of Moab will be like the heart of a woman giving birth.
Kuo kapa ʻa Kiliote, pea kuo ilifia ai ʻae ngaahi potu mālohi, pea ʻe hoko ʻi he ʻaho ko ia ʻae loto ʻoe kau tangata mālohi ʻi Moape ʻo hangē ko e loto ʻoe fefine kuo langā.
42 And Moab will cease to be a people. For he has been glorified against the Lord.
Pea ʻe fakaʻauha ʻae puleʻanga ʻo Moape, koeʻuhi ko e fakahikihiki ia kia Sihova.
43 Terror and the pit and the snare will overwhelm you, O inhabitant of Moab, says the Lord.
ʻOku pehē mai ʻe Sihova, ʻa koe ʻoku nofo ʻi Moape, ʻe ʻiate koe ʻae ilifia, mo e luo, pea mo e tauhele.
44 Whoever flees from the terror will fall into the pit. And whoever climbs out of the pit will be seized by the snare. For I will lead over Moab the year of their visitation, says the Lord.
ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Ko ia ʻoku hola ʻi he manavahē te ne tō ki he luo; pea ko ia ʻe hao mei he luo ʻe moʻua ia ʻi he tauhele: he te u ʻomi kiate ia, ʻio, ki Moape, ʻae taʻu ʻo honau ʻaʻahi.
45 Those fleeing from the snare stood in the shadow of Heshbon. For a fire has gone forth from Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and it will devour the portion of Moab, and the top of the head of the sons of tumult.
“Naʻe tuʻu ʻi he malumalu ʻo Hesiponi ʻakinautolu naʻe hola ko e meʻa ʻi he mālohi: ka ʻe ʻalu atu ʻae afi mei Hesiponi, pea mo e ulo afi mei he loto Sihoni, pea ʻe fakaʻauha ai ʻae tuliki ʻo Moape, pea mo e tumuʻaki ʻoe ngaahi fonua fakamaveuveu.
46 Woe to you, O Moab! You have been ruined, O people of Chemosh! For your sons and your daughters have been taken into captivity.
ʻE Moape, ʻe malaʻia ʻa koe! ʻoku malaʻia ʻae kakai ʻo Kimosi: he kuo ʻave fakapōpula ʻa ho ngaahi foha, pea kuo ʻalu foki ʻa ho ngaahi ʻofefine ki he fakapōpula.
47 But I will convert the captivity of Moab in the last days, says the Lord.” Such are the judgments of Moab thus far.
Ka ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Te u liliu ʻae fakapōpula ʻo Moape, ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ʻamui.” Ko eni ʻae fakamaau ʻo Moape.
