Isaiah 19
1 The burden of Egypt. Behold, the Lord will ascend upon a lofty cloud, and he will enter into Egypt, and the false images of Egypt will be moved before his face, and the heart of Egypt will waste away in its midst.
Malheur accablant de l’Egypte. Voici que le Seigneur montera sur un nuage léger, et qu’il entrera dans l’Egypte, et que seront ébranlés les simulacres de l’Egypte devant sa face, et le cœur de l’Egypte se fondra au milieu d’elle.
2 And I will cause Egyptian to rush against Egyptian. And they will fight: a man against his brother, and a man against his friend, city against city, kingdom against kingdom.
Et je ferai courir des Egyptiens contre des Egyptiens; et un homme combattra contre son frère, et un homme contre un ami, une cité contre une cité, un royaume contre un royaume.
3 And the spirit of Egypt will be ruptured to its very core. And I will cast down their plan violently. And they will seek answers from their false images, and their diviners, and those led by demons, and their seers.
Et l’esprit de l’Egypte sera déchiré dans ses entrailles, et je détruirai son conseil; et ils interrogeront leurs simulacres, et leurs devins, et les pythoniens et les magiciens.
4 And I will deliver Egypt into the hand of cruel masters, and a strong king will dominate them, says the Lord, the God of hosts.
Et je livrerai l’Egypte à la main de maîtres cruels, et un roi puissant les dominera, dit le Seigneur Dieu des armées.
5 And the waters of the sea will dry up, and the river will be desolate and dry.
Et l’eau disparaîtra de la mer, et le fleuve sera détruit et desséché.
6 And the rivers will fail. The streams of its banks will diminish and dry up. The reed and the bulrush will wither away.
Et les rivières tariront, et les ruisseaux, retenus par des digues, diminueront et seront desséchés. Le roseau et le jonc se flétriront;
7 The channel of the river will be stripped down to its source, and everything irrigated by it will dry up and wither and be no more.
Le lit du ruisseau sera mis à nu à sa source même, et l’eau dont on arrosait toute semence desséchera, deviendra aride, et ne sera plus.
8 And the fishermen will grieve. And all who cast a hook into the river will mourn. And those who cast a net upon the surface of its waters will languish.
Et les pêcheurs s’affligeront, et tous ceux qui jettent l’hameçon dans le fleuve pleureront, et ceux qui tendent le filet sur la surface des eaux dépériront.
9 Those who work with linen, combing and weaving fine textiles, will be confounded.
Ils seront confondus, ceux qui travaillaient le lin, qui le cardaient et en faisaient de fins tissus.
10 And its irrigated places will begin to fail, with all those who make pools to take fish.
Et ses lieux arrosés d’eau se dessécheront, de même tous ceux qui faisaient des fosses pour prendre des poissons.
11 The leaders of Tanis are foolish. The wise counselors of Pharaoh have given foolish counsel. How can you say to Pharaoh: “I am the son of wise men, the son of the kings of antiquity?”
Ils sont atteints de folie, les princes de Tanis, les sages conseillers de Pharaon ont donné un conseil insensé. Comment direz-vous à Pharaon: Je suis fils des sages, fils des anciens rois?
12 Where are your wise men now? Let them announce it to you, and let them reveal what the Lord of hosts intends for Egypt.
Où sont maintenant tes sages? Qu’ils t’annoncent, qu’ils apprennent ce qu’a résolu le Seigneur des armées, touchant l’Egypte.
13 The leaders of Tanis have become foolish. The leaders of Memphis have decayed. They have deceived Egypt, the corner of its people.
Ils sont devenus fous, les princes de Tanis; ils se sont amoindris, les princes de Memphis, ils ont séduit l’Egypte, soutien de ses peuples.
14 The Lord has mixed a spirit of giddiness into its midst. And they have caused Egypt to err in all its works, like a drunken man who staggers and vomits.
Le Seigneur a répandu au milieu d’elle un esprit de vertige, et ils ont fait errer l’Egypte dans toutes ses œuvres, comme erre l’homme ivre et qui vomit.
15 And there will be no work for Egypt that would produce a head or a tail, one who bows down or one who refrains from bowing down.
Et il n’y aura pour l’Egypte rien à faire à la tête et à la queue, à celui qui plie et à celui qui refrène.
16 In that day, Egypt will be like women, and they will be stupefied and fearful before the presence of the shaking hand of the Lord of hosts, the hand which he will move over them.
Et ce jour-là, les Egyptiens seront comme des femmes, et ils s’étonneront, et ils craindront à la vue de la commotion que la main du Seigneur des armées lui-même produira sur eux.
17 And the land of Judah will be a dread to Egypt. Everyone who thinks about it will be terrified before the presence of the plan of the Lord of hosts, the plan which he has decided concerning them.
Et la terre de Juda sera à l’Égypte en effroi; quiconque s’en souviendra sera effrayé à la vue du dessein que le Seigneur des armées lui-même a formé contre elle.
18 In that day, there will be five cities in the land of Egypt which speak the language of Canaan, and which swear by the Lord of hosts. One will be called the City of the Sun.
En ce jour-là, il y aura cinq cités dans la terre d’Égypte qui parleront la langue de Chanaan, et qui jureront par le Seigneur des armées; l’une sera appelée la cité du soleil.
19 In that day, there will be an altar of the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt and a monument of the Lord beside its borders.
En ce jour-là, il y aura un autel du Seigneur au milieu de la terre d’Égypte, et un monument au Seigneur près de sa frontière.
20 This shall be a sign and a testimony to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt. For they will cry out to the Lord before the face of the tribulation, and he will send them a savior and a defender who will free them.
Ce sera en signe et en témoignage au Seigneur des armées dans la terre d’Égypte. Car ils crieront vers le Seigneur à la vue de l’oppresseur, et il leur enverra un sauveur et un défenseur, qui les délivrera.
21 And the Lord will be acknowledged by Egypt, and the Egyptians will recognize the Lord in that day, and they will worship him with sacrifices and gifts. And they will make vows to the Lord, and they will fulfill them.
Et le Seigneur sera connu de l’Égypte, et les Égyptiens en ce jour-là connaîtront le Seigneur; et ils l’honoreront par des hosties et par des offrandes; et ils voueront des vœux et ils les acquitteront.
22 And the Lord will strike Egypt with a scourge, and he will heal them. And they will return to the Lord. And he will be placated toward them, and he will heal them.
Et le Seigneur frappera l’Égypte d’une plaie, et il la guérira; et il s’apaisera pour eux et il les guérira.
23 In that day, there will be a way from Egypt to the Assyrians, and the Assyrian will enter into Egypt, and the Egyptian will be with the Assyrians, and the Egyptians will serve Assur.
En ce jour-là, il y aura une voie de l’Égypte chez les Assyriens, et l’Assyrien entrera dans l’Égypte, et l’Égyptien chez les Assyriens, et les Égyptiens serviront Assur.
24 In that day, will Israel be the third to the Egyptian and the Assyrian, a blessing in the midst of the earth,
En ce jour-là, Israël sera réuni comme troisième à l’Égyptien et à l’Assyrien; la bénédiction sera au milieu de la terre,
25 which the Lord of hosts has blessed, saying: Blessed be my people of Egypt, and the work of my hands for the Assyrian, but Israel is my inheritance.
Qu’a bénie le Seigneur des armées, disant: Béni soit mon peuple d’Égypte, et l’ouvrage de mes mains se fera par l’Assyrien, mais mon héritage est Israël.
