Isaiah 1
1 The vision of Isaiah, the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Joatham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
(Dies ist) die Offenbarung, die Jesaja, der Sohn des Amoz, über Juda und (besonders) Jerusalem geschaut hat in den Tagen der judäischen Könige Ussia, Jotham, Ahas und Hiskia.
2 Listen, O heavens, and pay attention, O earth, for the Lord has spoken. I have nurtured and raised children, but they have spurned me.
Höret, ihr Himmel, und horche auf, o Erde! Denn der HERR redet: »Söhne habe ich großgezogen und zu Ehren gebracht, doch sie sind mir untreu geworden!
3 An ox knows his owner, and a donkey knows the manger of his lord, but Israel has not known me, and my people have not understood.
Ein Rind kennt seinen Besitzer und ein Esel die Krippe seines Herrn; aber Israel hat keine Erkenntnis, mein Volk ist ohne Einsicht!«
4 Woe to a sinful nation, a people burdened by iniquity, a wicked offspring, accursed children. They have abandoned the Lord. They have blasphemed the Holy One of Israel. They been taken away backwards.
Wehe dem sündigen Geschlecht, dem schuldbeladenen Volk, der Brut von Missetätern, den entarteten Söhnen! Den HERRN haben sie verlassen, den Heiligen Israels verworfen, sich zur Abkehr von ihm gewandt!
5 For what reason shall I continue to strike you, as you increase transgressions? The entire head is feeble, and the entire heart is grieving.
Auf welche Stelle soll man euch noch schlagen, da ihr ja doch im Abfall verharret? Das ganze Haupt ist krank und das ganze Herz siech;
6 From the sole of the foot, even to the top of the head, there is no soundness within. Wounds and bruises and swelling sores: these are not bandaged, nor treated with medicine, nor soothed with oil.
von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel ist nichts Unversehrtes mehr an ihm: nur Wunden und Striemen und frische Schläge, die nicht ausgedrückt und nicht verbunden, noch mit Öl erweicht sind.
7 Your land is desolate. Your cities have been set ablaze. Foreigners devour your countryside in your sight, and it will become desolate, as if devastated by enemies.
Euer Land ist zu einer Wüste geworden: eure Städte sind mit Feuer verbrannt, euer Ackerland – Fremde verzehren seinen Ertrag vor euren Augen; ja, eine Wüstenei ist (alles), wie einst bei der Zerstörung Sodoms;
8 And the daughter of Zion will be left behind, like an arbor in a vineyard, and like a shelter in a cucumber field, and like a city being laid to waste.
und übriggeblieben ist die Tochter Zion wie eine Hütte im Weinberg, wie ein Wächterhäuschen im Gurkenfeld, wie ein eingeschlossener Wachtturm.
9 If the Lord of hosts had not bequeathed us offspring, we would have been like Sodom, and we would have been comparable to Gomorrah.
Hätte der HERR der Heerscharen von uns nicht eben noch einen Rest übriggelassen: schier wie Sodom wären wir geworden und hätten gleiches Schicksal mit Gomorrha gehabt!
10 Listen to the Word of the Lord, you leaders of the people of Sodom. Listen closely to the law of our God, O people of Gomorrah.
Höret das Wort des HERRN, ihr Sodomsfürsten! Merk auf die Weisung unsres Gottes, du Gomorrhavolk!
11 The multitude of your sacrifices, what is that to me, says the Lord? I am full. I do not desire holocausts of rams, nor the fat of fatlings, nor the blood of calves and of lambs and of he-goats.
»Wozu soll mir die Menge eurer Schlachtopfer dienen?« fragt der HERR; »überdrüssig bin ich der Brandopfer von Widdern und des Fettes der Mastkälber, und am Blut von Jungstieren, Lämmern und Böcken habe ich kein Wohlgefallen.
12 When you approach before my sight, who is it that requires these things from your hands, so that you would walk in my courts?
Wenn ihr kommt, um vor meinem Angesicht euch sehen zu lassen – wer hat das von euch verlangt, meine Vorhöfe zu zertreten?
13 You should no longer offer sacrifice in vain. Incense is an abomination to me. The new moons and the Sabbaths and the other feast days, I will not receive. Your gatherings are iniquitous.
Bringt mir keine heuchlerischen Speisopfer mehr dar: greuelhafter Opferrauch sind sie mir! Neumonde und Sabbate, die Berufung von Festversammlungen: ich kann Gottlosigkeit im Verein mit Festgepränge nicht ertragen!
14 My soul hates your days of proclamation and your solemnities. They have become bothersome to me. I labor to endure them.
Eure Neumonde und Festzeiten sind meinem Herzen verhaßt, sie sind mir zur Last geworden, und bin’s müde, sie zu ertragen!
15 And so, when you extend your hands, I will avert my eyes from you. And when you multiply your prayers, I will not heed you. For your hands are full of blood.
Und wenn ihr eure Hände ausbreitet (beim Gebet), verhülle ich meine Augen vor euch; auch wenn ihr noch soviel betet, höre ich doch nicht darauf: eure Hände sind ja voll Blutschuld.
16 Wash, become clean, take away the evil of your intentions from my eyes. Cease to act perversely.
Wascht euch, reinigt euch, schafft eure bösen Taten mir aus den Augen! Hört auf, Böses zu tun,
17 Learn to do good. Seek judgment, support the oppressed, judge for the orphan, defend the widow.
lernt Gutes tun, kümmert euch um die Rechtspflege, tretet den Gewalttätigen entgegen, schafft den Waisen Recht und führt die Sache der Witwen!«
18 And then approach and accuse me, says the Lord. Then, if your sins are like scarlet, they shall be made white like snow; and if they are red like vermillion, they shall become white like wool.
»So kommt denn her, wir wollen miteinander rechten!« spricht der HERR. »Wenn eure Sünden auch rot wie Scharlach sind, sollen sie doch weiß werden wie Schnee; und sind sie auch rot wie Purpur, sollen sie doch weiß wie Wolle werden.
19 If you are willing, and you listen to me, then you will eat the good things of the land.
Wenn ihr willig und gehorsam seid, sollt ihr die köstlichen Gaben des Landes genießen;
20 But if you are not willing, and you provoke me to anger, then the sword will devour you. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
doch wenn ihr euch weigert und widerspenstig seid, sollt ihr vom Schwert gefressen werden; denn der Mund des HERRN hat gesprochen!«
21 How has the faithful city, full of judgment, become a harlot? Justice lived in her, but now murderers.
Ach wie ist doch die (einstmals) treue Stadt zur Ehebrecherin geworden, Zion, das (vordem) voll von Rechtspflege war! Die Gerechtigkeit hatte eine Wohnstätte in ihr, jetzt aber Mörder!
22 Your silver has turned into dross. Your wine has been mixed with water.
Dein Silber ist zu Schlacken geworden, dein edler Wein mit Wasser verschnitten.
23 Your leaders are unfaithful, the associates of thieves. They all love gifts; they pursue rewards. They do not judge for orphans, and the widow’s case is not brought before them.
Deine Oberen sind Aufrührer geworden und Diebsgesellen; sie sind alle in Geschenke verliebt und laufen hinter Bestechung her; den Waisen schaffen sie nicht Recht, und die Sache der Witwen gelangt nicht vor sie.
24 Because of this, the Lord God of hosts, the Strength of Israel, says: Ah! I will be consoled over my enemies, and I will be vindicated from my adversaries.
Darum lautet der Ausspruch des Höchsten, der HERRN der Heerscharen, des starken Helden Israels: »Ha! Ich will meinen Zorn an meinen Widersachern kühlen und Rache an meinen Feinden nehmen!
25 And I will turn my hand to you. And I will temper your dross unto purity, and I will take away all your tin.
Ich will meine Hand gegen dich kehren und deine Schlacken wie mit Laugensalz ausschmelzen und all dein unedles Metall ausscheiden,
26 And I will restore your judges, so that they will be as before, and your counselors as in times long past. After this, you shall be called the City of the Just, the Faithful City.
und will dir wieder Richter schaffen wie in der Vorzeit und Ratgeber wie zu Anfang: danach wird man dich nennen ›die Burg der Gerechtigkeit, die treue Stadt‹.«
27 Zion will be redeemed in judgment, and they will lead her back to justice.
Zion wird durch Gericht erlöst werden, aber die sich in ihm Bekehrenden durch Gerechtigkeit.
28 And he shall crush the accursed and sinners together. And those who have abandoned the Lord will be consumed.
Und zwar wird Vernichtung die Abtrünnigen und Sünder allesamt treffen, und die vom HERRN Abgefallenen werden umkommen!
29 For they shall be confounded because of the idols, to which they have sacrificed. And you shall be ashamed over the gardens that you chose,
Ja, ihr sollt zuschanden werden wegen der Terebinthen, die eure Lust sind, und vor Scham erröten wegen der Gärten, die ihr so gern habt!
30 when you were like an oak with falling leaves, and like a garden without water.
Denn ihr sollt werden wie eine Terebinthe, deren Laub verwelkt, und einem Garten gleichen, der kein Wasser hat!
31 And your strength will be like the embers from stubble, and your work will be like a spark, and both will burn together, and there will be no one to extinguish it.
Und sogar der Mächtige soll zu (dürrem) Werg werden und sein Werk zum (zündenden) Funken, und sie sollen beide zusammen verbrennen, ohne daß jemand löschen kann!
