Genesis 4
1 Truly, Adam knew his wife Eve, who conceived and gave birth to Cain, saying, “I have obtained a man through God.”
A-đam ăn ở với Ê-va, là vợ mình; người thọ thai sanh Ca-in và nói rằng: Nhờ Ðức Giê-hô-va giúp đỡ, tôi mới sanh được một người.
2 And again she gave birth to his brother Abel. But Abel was a pastor of sheep, and Cain was a farmer.
Ê-va lại sanh em Ca-in, là A-bên; A-bên làm nghề chăn chiên, còn Ca-in thì nghề làm ruộng.
3 Then it happened, after many days, that Cain offered gifts to the Lord, from the fruits of the earth.
Vả, cách ít lâu, Ca-in dùng thổ sản làm của lễ dâng cho Ðức Giê-hô-va.
4 Abel likewise offered from the firstborn of his flock, and from their fat. And the Lord looked with favor on Abel and his gifts.
A-bên cũng dâng chiên đầu lòng trong bầy mình cùng mỡ nó. Ðức Giê-hô-va đoái xem A-bên và nhận lễ vật của người;
5 Yet in truth, he did not look with favor on Cain and his gifts. And Cain was vehemently angry, and his countenance fell.
nhưng chẳng đoái đến Ca-in và cũng chẳng nhận lễ vật của người; cho nên Ca-in giận lắm mà gằm nét mặt.
6 And the Lord said to him: “Why are you angry? And why is your face fallen?
Ðức Giê-hô-va phán hỏi Ca-in rằng: Cớ sao ngươi giận, và cớ sao nét mặt ngươi gằm xuống?
7 If you behave well, will you not receive? But if you behave badly, will not sin at once be present at the door? And so its desire will be within you, and you will be dominated by it.”
Nếu ngươi làm lành, há chẳng ngước mặt lên sao? Còn như chẳng làm lành, thì tội lỗi rình đợi trước cửa, thèm ngươi lắm; nhưng ngươi phải quản trị nó.
8 And Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let us go outside.” And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and he put him to death.
Ca-in thuật lại cùng A-bên là em mình. Vả, khi hai người đương ở ngoài đồng, thì Ca-in xông đến A-bên là em mình, và giết đi.
9 And the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” And he responded: “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
Ðức Giê-hô-va hỏi Ca-in rằng: A-bên, em ngươi, ở đâu? Thưa rằng: Tôi không biết; tôi là người giữ em tôi sao?
10 And he said to him: “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to me from the land.
Ðức Giê-hô-va hỏi: Ngươi đã làm điều chi vậy? Tiếng của máu em ngươi từ dưới đất kêu thấu đến ta.
11 Now, therefore, you will be cursed upon the land, which opened its mouth and received the blood of your brother at your hand.
Bây giờ, ngươi sẽ bị đất rủa sả, là đất đã hả miệng chịu hút máu của em ngươi bởi chính tay ngươi làm đổ ra.
12 When you work it, it will not give you its fruit; a vagrant and a fugitive shall you be upon the land.”
Khi ngươi trồng tỉa, đất chẳng sanh hoa lợi cho ngươi nữa; ngươi sẽ lưu lạc và trốn tránh, trên mặt đất.
13 And Cain said to the Lord: “My iniquity is too great to deserve kindness.
Ca-in thưa cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va rằng: Sự hình phạt tôi nặng quá mang không nổi.
14 Behold, you have cast me out this day before the face of the earth, and from your face I will be hidden; and I will be a vagrant and a fugitive on the earth. Therefore, anyone who finds me will kill me.”
Nầy, ngày nay, Chúa đã đuổi tôi ra khỏi đất nầy, tôi sẽ lánh mặt Chúa, sẽ đi lưu lạc trốn tránh trên đất; rồi, xảy có ai gặp tôi, họ sẽ giết đi.
15 And the Lord said to him: “By no means will it be so; rather, whoever would kill Cain, will be punished sevenfold.” And the Lord placed a seal upon Cain, so that anyone who found him would not put him to death.
Ðức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Bởi cớ ấy, nếu ai giết Ca-in, thì sẽ bị báo thù bảy lần. Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn đánh đấu trên mình Ca-in, hầu cho ai gặp Ca-in thì chẳng giết.
16 And so Cain, departing from the face of the Lord, lived as a fugitive on the earth, toward the eastern region of Eden.
Ca-in bèn lui ra khỏi mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, và ở tại xứ Nốt, về phía đông của Ê-đen.
17 Then Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. And he built a city, and he called its name by the name of his son, Enoch.
Ðoạn, Ca-in ăn ở cùng vợ mình, nàng thọ thai và sanh được Hê-nóc; Ca-in xây một cái thành đặt tên là Hê-nóc, tùy theo tên con trai mình.
18 Thereafter, Enoch conceived Irad, and Irad conceived Mahujael, and Mahujael conceived Mathusael, and Mathusael conceived Lamech.
Rồi, Hê-nóc sanh Y-rát; Y-rát sanh Nê-hu-đa-ên; Nê-hu-đa-ên sanh Mê-tu-sa-ên; Mê-tu-sa-ên sanh Lê-méc.
19 Lamech took two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the other was Zillah.
Lê-méc cưới hai vợ; một người tên là A-đa, một người tên là Si-la.
20 And Adah conceived Jabel, who was the father of those who live in tents and are shepherds.
A-đa sanh Gia-banh; Gia-banh là tổ phụ của các dân ở trại và nuôi bầy súc vật.
21 And the name of his brother was Jubal; he was the father of those who sing to the harp and the organ.
Em người là Giu-banh, tổ phụ của những kẻ đánh đờn và thổi sáo.
22 Zillah also conceived Tubalcain, who was a hammerer and artisan in every work of brass and iron. In fact, the sister of Tubalcain was Noema.
Còn Si-la cũng sanh Tu-banh-Ca-in là người rèn đủ thứ khí giới bén bằng đồng và bằng sắt. Em gái của Tu-banh-Ca-in là Na-a-ma.
23 And Lamech said to his wives Adah and Zillah: “Listen to my voice, you wives of Lamech, pay attention to my speech. For I have killed a man to my own harm, and an adolescent to my own bruising.
Lê-méc bèn nói với hai vợ mình rằng: Hỡi A-đa và Si-la! hãy nghe tiếng ta; Nầy, vợ Lê-méc hãy lắng tai nghe lời ta: Ừ! Ta đã giết một người, vì làm thương ta, Và một người trẻ, vì đánh sưng bầm ta.
24 Sevenfold vengeance will be given for Cain, but for Lamech, seventy-seven times.”
Nếu Ca-in được bảy lần báo thù, Lê-méc sẽ được bảy mươi bảy lần báo oán.
25 Adam also knew his wife again, and she gave birth to a son, and she called his name Seth, saying, “God has given me another offspring, in place of Abel, whom Cain killed.”
A-đam còn ăn ở với vợ mình; người sanh được một con trai đặt tên là Sết; vì vợ rằng: Ðức Chúa Trời đã cho tôi một con trai khác thế cho A-bên mà đã bị Ca-in giết rồi.
26 But to Seth also was born a son, whom he called Enos. This one began to invoke the name of the Lord.
Sết cũng sanh được một con trai, đặt tên là Ê-nót. Từ đây, người ta bắt đầu cầu khẩn danh Ðức Giê-hô-va.
