Ezekiel 1
1 And it happened that, in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth of the month, when I was in the midst of the captives beside the river Chebar, the heavens were opened, and I saw the visions of God.
Et la trentième année, au quatrième mois, le cinquième jour du mois, comme j’étais parmi les captifs, près du fleuve Chobar, les cieux s’ouvrirent et je vis des visions de Dieu.
2 On the fifth of the month, the same is the fifth year of the transmigration of king Joachin,
Le cinquième jour du mois, — c’était la cinquième année de la captivité du roi Joachin, —
3 the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel, a priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans, next to the river Chebar. And the hand of the Lord was over him there.
la parole de Yahweh fut adressée à Ezéchiel, fils de Buzi, prêtre, dans le pays des Chaldéens, prés du fleuve Chobar, et là, la main de Yahweh fut sur lui.
4 And I saw, and behold, a whirlwind arrived from the north. And a great cloud, wrapped in fire and brightness, was all around it. And from its midst, that is, from the midst of the fire, there was something with the appearance of amber.
Je vis, et voici qu’un vent de tempête venait du septentrion, et une grande nuée, et une masse de feu qui resplendissait alentour; et au milieu d’elle on voyait comme l’aspect d’un métal plongé dans le feu.
5 And in its midst, there was the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: the likeness of a man was in them.
Et au milieu, je vis la ressemblance de quatre êtres vivants, et voici quel était leur aspect: ils avaient une ressemblance humaine.
6 Each one had four faces, and each one had four wings.
Chacun avait quatre faces, et chacun avait quatre ailes.
7 Their feet were straight feet, and the sole of their foot was like the sole of the foot of a calf, and they sparkled with the appearance of glowing brass.
Leurs pieds étaient des pieds droits, et la plante de leurs pieds était comme la plante du pied d’un veau; ils étincelaient comme l’aspect de l’airain poli.
8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on the four sides. And they had faces with the wings on the four sides.
Des mains d’hommes sortaient de dessous leurs ailes, sur leurs quatre côtés; et tous les quatre avaient leurs faces et leurs ailes.
9 And their wings were joined to one another. They did not turn as they went. Instead, each one advanced before his face.
Leurs ailes étaient jointes l’une à l’autre; ils ne tournaient pas en marchant; chacun allait devant soi.
10 But as for the likeness of their face, there was the face of a man, and the face of a lion on the right of each of the four, then the face of an ox on the left of each of the four, and the face of an eagle above each of the four.
Et voici quelle était la ressemblance de leurs faces: une face d’homme par devant, une face de lion à droite à tous les quatre, une face de taureau à gauche à tous les quatre, et une face d’aigle à tous les quatre.
11 Their faces and their wings were extended above: two wings of each one were joined together, and two covered their bodies.
Et telles étaient leurs faces. Leurs ailes se déployaient au-dessus d’eux; chacun avait deux ailes qui rejoignaient celles de l’autre, et deux ailes qui couvraient son corps.
12 And each one of them advanced before his face. Wherever the impetus of the spirit was to go, there they went. And they did not turn as they advanced.
Chacun allait devant soi; là où l’esprit les faisait aller, ils allaient; ils ne tournaient pas en allant.
13 And as for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like that of burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps. This was the vision dashing in the midst of the living creatures, a bright fire, with lightning going forth from the fire.
L’aspect de ces êtres vivants ressemblait à des charbons ardents; c’était comme l’aspect des lampes; le feu circulait entre les êtres, le feu était éblouissant, et du feu sortaient des éclairs.
14 And the living creatures went and returned like flashes of lightning.
Et les êtres vivants couraient en tous sens, comme l’aspect de la foudre.
15 And as I beheld the living creatures, there appeared above the earth, next to the living creatures, one wheel having four faces.
Et je regardai les êtres vivants, et voici une roue à terre auprès d’eux, devant leurs quatre faces.
16 And the appearance of the wheels and their work was like the appearance of the sea. And each of the four were similar to one another. And their appearance and work was like a wheel in the center of a wheel.
L’aspect des roues et leur forme étaient ceux de la pierre de Tharsis, et toutes quatre étaient semblables; leur aspect et leur forme étaient comme si une roue était au milieu d’une autre roue.
17 Going forth, they went by means of their four parts. And they did not turn as they went.
En avançant, elles allaient sur leurs quatre côtés et ne se retournaient pas dans leur marche.
18 Also, the size and height and appearance of the wheels was dreadful. And the entire body was full of eyes all around each of the four.
Leurs jantes étaient d’une hauteur effrayante, et les jantes des quatre roues étaient remplies d’yeux tout autour.
19 And when the living creatures advanced, the wheels advanced together with them. And when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels, too, were lifted up at the same time.
Quand les êtres allaient, les roues allaient aussi à côté d’eux, et quand les êtres s’élevaient de terre, les roues s’élevaient aussi.
20 Wherever the spirit went, as the spirit was going forth to that place, the wheels, too, were lifted up together, so as to follow them. For the spirit of life was in the wheels.
Là où l’esprit les poussait à aller, ils y allaient, l’esprit les y poussant, et les roues s’élevaient avec eux; car l’esprit de l’être vivant était dans les roues.
21 When going forth, they went forth, and when standing still, they stood still. And when they were lifted up from the earth, the wheels, too, were lifted up together, so as to follow them. For the spirit of life was in the wheels.
Quand ils allaient, elles allaient; quand ils s’arrêtaient, elles s’arrêtaient; et quand ils s’élevaient de terre, les roues s’élevaient avec eux; car l’esprit de l’être vivant était dans les roues.
22 And above the heads of the living creatures was the likeness of a firmament: similar to crystal, but dreadful to behold, and extending over their heads from above.
Au-dessus des têtes des êtres vivants, était la ressemblance d’un firmament, pareil à un cristal éblouissant; il était étendu au-dessus de leurs têtes.
23 And their wings were straight under the firmament, one toward the other. One of them was covered by two wings on his body, and the other was covered similarly.
Et sous le firmament se dressaient leurs ailes, l’une vers l’autre, et chacun en avait deux qui lui couvraient le corps de chaque côté.
24 And I heard the sound of their wings, like the sound of many waters, like the sound of the sublime God. When they walked, it was like the sound of a multitude, like the sound of an army. And when they stood still, their wings were let down.
Et j’entendis le bruit de leurs ailes, quand ils allaient, comme le bruit des grandes eaux, comme la voix du Tout-Puissant, un bruit tumultueux comme celui d’un camp; quand ils s’arrêtaient, ils laissaient retomber leurs ailes.
25 For when a voice came from above the firmament, which was over their heads, they stood still, and they put down their wings.
Et il se faisait un bruit, partant du firmament étendu sur leurs têtes; quand ils s’arrêtaient, ils laissaient retomber leurs ailes.
26 And above the firmament, which was suspended over their heads, there was the likeness of a throne, with the appearance of the sapphire stone. And over the likeness of the throne, there was a likeness with the appearance of a man above it.
Au-dessus du firmament qui était sur leurs têtes, il y avait comme l’aspect d’une pierre de saphir, en forme de trône; et sur cette ressemblance de trône, il semblait y avoir comme une figure d’homme au-dessus.
27 And I saw something with the appearance of amber, with the likeness of fire within it and all around it. And from his waist and upward, and from his waist downward, I saw something with the appearance of fire shining all around.
Au-dedans et alentour, je vis comme une forme de métal, comme un aspect de feu, depuis ce qui paraissait ses reins et au-dessus; et depuis ce qui paraissait ses reins et au-dessous, je vis comme l’aspect du feu, et il y avait de l’éclat tout autour de lui.
28 There was the appearance of the rainbow, as when it is in a cloud on a rainy day. This was the appearance of the splendor on every side.
Comme l’aspect de l’arc qui est dans la nuée en un jour de pluie, tel était l’aspect de l’éclat tout autour de lui. Tel était l’aspect de la ressemblance de la gloire de Yahweh. A cette vue, je tombai sur ma face, et j’entendis la voix de quelqu’un qui parlait.
