Exodus 9
1 Then the Lord said to Moses: “Enter to Pharaoh, and say to him: ‘Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: Release my people, to sacrifice to me.
Alors l'Eternel dit à Moïse: va vers Pharaon, et lui dis: ainsi a dit l'Eternel, le Dieu des Hébreux: laisse aller mon peuple, afin qu'ils me servent.
2 But if you still refuse, and you retain them,
Car si tu refuses de [les] laisser aller, et si tu les retiens encore,
3 behold, my hand will be over your fields. And a very grievous pestilence will be upon the horses, and the donkeys, and the camels, and the oxen, and the sheep.
Voici, la main de l'Eternel sera sur ton bétail qui est aux champs, tant sur les chevaux, que sur les ânes, sur les chameaux, sur les bœufs, et sur les brebis, et il y aura une très-grande mortalité.
4 And the Lord will cause a miracle between the possessions of Israel and the possessions of the Egyptians, so that nothing at all will perish from those things which belong to the sons of Israel.”
Et l'Eternel distinguera le bétail des Israélites du bétail des Egyptiens, afin que rien de ce qui est aux enfants d'Israël ne meure.
5 And the Lord appointed a time, saying: “Tomorrow, the Lord will accomplish this word in the land.”
Et l'Eternel assigna un terme, en disant: demain l'Eternel fera ceci dans le pays.
6 Therefore, the Lord accomplished this word the next day. And all the animals of the Egyptians died. Yet truly, of the animals of the sons of Israel, nothing at all perished.
L'Eternel donc fit cela dès le lendemain; et tout le bétail des Egyptiens mourut. Mais du bétail des enfants d'Israël, il n'en mourut pas une seule [bête].
7 And Pharaoh sent to see; neither was there anything dead of those things that Israel possessed. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not release the people.
Et Pharaon envoya [examiner], et voici, il n'y avait pas une seule [bête] morte du bétail des enfants d'Israël. Toutefois le cœur de Pharaon s'endurcit; et il ne laissa point aller le peuple.
8 And the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron: “Take handfuls of ashes from the oven, and let Moses sprinkle it into the air, in the sight of Pharaoh.
Alors l'Eternel dit à Moïse et à Aaron: prenez plein vos mains de cendres de fournaise; et que Moïse les répande vers les cieux en la présence de Pharaon.
9 And let there be dust upon all the land of Egypt. For there will be sores and swelling pustules on men and on beasts, throughout the entire land of Egypt.”
Et elles deviendront de la poussière sur tout le pays d'Egypte, et il s'en fera des ulcères bourgeonnant en pustules tant sur les hommes que sur les bêtes, dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
10 And they took ashes from the oven, and they stood in the sight of Pharaoh, and Moses sprinkled it in the air. And there came sores with swelling pustules on men and on beasts.
Ils prirent donc de la cendre de fournaise, et se tinrent devant Pharaon; et Moïse la répandit vers les cieux; et il s'en forma des ulcères bourgeonnant en pustules, tant aux hommes qu'aux bêtes.
11 Neither could the sorcerers stand in the sight of Moses, because of the sores that were on them and on all the land of Egypt.
Et les magiciens ne purent se tenir devant Moïse, à cause des ulcères; car les magiciens avaient des ulcères, comme tous les Egyptiens.
12 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord said to Moses.
Et l'Eternel endurcit le cœur de Pharaon, et il ne les écouta point selon que l'Eternel en avait parlé à Moïse.
13 And the Lord said to Moses: “Rise up in the morning, and stand in the sight of Pharaoh, and you will say to him: ‘Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: Release my people to sacrifice to me.
Puis l'Eternel dit à Moïse: lève-toi de bon matin, et te présente devant Pharaon, et lui dit: ainsi a dit l'Eternel, le Dieu des Hébreux: laisse aller mon peuple, afin qu'ils me servent.
14 For at this turn, I will send all my plagues upon your heart, and upon your servants, and upon your people. So may you know that there is no one like me in all the earth.
Car à cette fois je vais faire venir toutes mes plaies dans ton cœur; et sur tes serviteurs, et sur ton peuple; afin que tu saches qu'il n'y a nul [Dieu] semblable à moi en toute la terre.
15 For now, extending my hand, I shall strike you and your people with pestilence, and you will perish from the earth.
Car maintenant si j'eusse étendu ma main, je t'eusse frappé de mortalité, toi et ton peuple, et tu eusses été effacé de la terre.
16 But it was for this reason that I appointed you, so that I may reveal my strength by you, and so that my name may be described throughout all the earth.
Mais certainement je t'ai fait subsister pour ceci, afin de faire voir en toi ma puissance, et afin que mon nom soit célébré par toute la terre.
17 Do you still retain my people, and are you still unwilling to release them?
T'élèves-tu encore contre mon peuple, pour ne le laisser point aller?
18 So then, tomorrow, at this same hour, I will rain down exceedingly great hail, such as has not been in Egypt from the day that it was founded, even until this present time.
Voici, je m'en vais faire pleuvoir demain à cette même heure une grosse grêle, à laquelle il n'y en a point eu de semblable en Egypte, depuis le jour qu'elle a été fondée jusques à maintenant.
19 Therefore, send immediately and gather together your cattle, and all that you have in the field. For men and beasts, and all things that will be found outside, not gathered in from the fields, and on which the hail will fall, shall die.’”
Maintenant donc envoie rassembler ton bétail, et tout ce que tu as à la campagne; car la grêle tombera sur tous les hommes, et sur le bétail qui se trouvera à la campagne, et qu'on n'aura pas renfermé, et ils mourront.
20 He who feared the word of the Lord among the servants of Pharaoh caused his servants and cattle to flee together into the houses.
Celui des serviteurs de Pharaon, qui craignit la parole de l'Eternel, fit promptement retirer dans les maisons ses serviteurs et ses bêtes.
21 But he who neglected the word of the Lord released his servants and cattle into the fields.
Mais celui qui n'appliqua point son cœur à la parole de l'Eternel, laissa ses serviteurs et ses bêtes à la campagne.
22 And the Lord said to Moses: “Extend your hand into the sky, so that there may be hail in the entire land of Egypt, on men, and on beasts, and on every plant of the field in the land of Egypt.”
Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse: étends ta main vers les cieux, et il y aura de la grêle en tout le pays d'Egypte, sur les hommes, et sur les bêtes, et sur toutes les herbes des champs au pays d'Egypte.
23 And Moses extended his staff into the sky, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and also lightning dashing across the earth. And the Lord rained down hail upon the land of Egypt.
Moïse donc étendit sa verge vers les cieux, et l'Eternel envoya des tonnerres et de la grêle, et le feu se promenait sur la terre. L'Eternel fit donc pleuvoir de la grêle sur le pays d'Egypte.
24 And the hail and intermingled fire drove on together. And it was of such magnitude as had never before been seen in the entire land of Egypt, from the time when that nation was formed.
Il y eut donc de la grêle et du feu entremêlé avec la grêle, laquelle était si grosse qu'il n'y en avait point eu de semblable en toute la terre d'Egypte, depuis qu'elle a été habitée.
25 And the hail struck, throughout all the land of Egypt, everything that was in the fields, from man even to beast. And the hail struck down every plant of the field, and it broke every tree of the region.
Et la grêle frappa dans tout le pays d'Egypte tout ce qui était aux champs, depuis les hommes jusqu'aux bêtes. La grêle frappa aussi toutes les herbes des champs, et brisa tous les arbres des champs.
26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the sons of Israel were, did the hail not fall.
Il n'y eut que la contrée de Goscen, dans laquelle étaient les enfants d'Israël, [où] il n'y eut point de grêle.
27 And Pharaoh sent and called Moses and Aaron, saying to them: “I have sinned even until now. The Lord is just. I and my people are impious.
Alors Pharaon envoya appeler Moïse et Aaron, et leur dit: J'ai péché cette fois; l'Eternel est juste, mais moi et mon peuple sommes méchants.
28 Pray to the Lord, so that the thundering of God and the hail may cease, so that I may release you, and so that you may by no means remain here any longer.”
Fléchissez par prières l'Eternel; que ce [soit] assez; [et] que Dieu ne fasse plus tonner ni grêler, car je vous laisserai aller, et on ne vous arrêtera plus.
29 Moses said: “When I have departed from the city, I will extend my hands to the Lord, and the thunders will cease, and the hail will not be, so that you may know that the earth belongs to the Lord.
Alors Moïse dit: aussitôt que je serai sorti de la ville j'étendrai mes mains vers l'Eternel [et] les tonnerres cesseront, et il n'y aura plus de grêle, afin que tu saches que la terre est à l'Eternel.
30 But I know that both you and your servants do not yet fear the Lord God.”
Mais quant à toi et à tes serviteurs, je sais que vous ne craindrez pas encore l'Eternel Dieu.
31 And so, the flax and the barley were damaged, because the barley was growing, and the flax was already developing grains.
Or le lin et l'orge avaient été frappés, car l'orge était en épis et le lin était en tuyau.
32 But the wheat and the spelt were not damaged, because they were late.
Mais le blé et l'épeautre ne furent point frappés, parce qu'ils étaient cachés.
33 And Moses, departing from Pharaoh out of the city, reached out his hands toward the Lord. And the thunders and hail ceased, neither did there drop any more rain upon the land.
Moïse donc étant sorti d'avec Pharaon hors de la ville étendit ses mains vers l'Eternel, et les tonnerres cessèrent, et la grêle et la pluie ne tombèrent plus sur la terre.
34 Then Pharaoh, seeing that the rain, and the hail, and the thunders had ceased, added to his sin.
Et Pharaon voyant que la pluie, la grêle, et les tonnerres avaient cessé, continua encore à pécher, et il endurcit son cœur, lui et ses serviteurs.
35 And his heart was weighed down, along with that of his servants, and it was hardened exceedingly. Neither did he release the sons of Israel, just as the Lord had instructed by the hand of Moses.
Le cœur donc de Pharaon s'endurcit, et il ne laissa point aller les enfants d'Israël; selon que l'Eternel [en] avait parlé par le moyen de Moïse.
