Deuteronomy 34
1 Therefore, Moses ascended from the plains of Moab onto Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, opposite Jericho. And the Lord revealed to him the entire land of Gilead, as far as Dan,
Moïse se dirigea des plaines de Moab vers le mont Nébo, et monta au sommet du Pisga qui est en face de Jéricho. Et l’Éternel lui fit contempler tout le pays: le Galaad jusqu’à Dan,
2 and all of Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and the entire land of Judah, even to the furthest sea,
tout Nephtali, le territoire d’Ephraïm et de Manassé, et le territoire entier de Juda jusqu’à la mer ultérieure;
3 and the southern region, and the breadth of the plain of Jericho, the city of palms, as far as Zoar.
puis le midi, le bassin du Jourdain, la vallée de Jéricho, ville des palmiers, jusqu’à Çoar.
4 And the Lord said to him: “This is the land, about which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying: I will give it to your offspring. You have seen it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over to it.”
Et l’Éternel lui dit: "C’Est là le pays que j’ai promis par serment à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob, en disant: je le donnerai à votre postérité. Je te l’ai fait voir de tes yeux, mais tu n’y entreras point."
5 And Moses, the servant of the Lord, died in that place, in the land of Moab, by order of the Lord.
C’Est donc là que mourut Moïse, le serviteur de l’Éternel, dans le pays de Moab, sur l’ordre du Seigneur.
6 And he buried him in the valley of the land of Moab, opposite Peor. And no man knows where his sepulcher is, even to the present day.
Il fut enseveli dans la vallée du pays de Moab qui fait face à Beth-Peor; mais nul n’a connu sa sépulture jusqu’à ce jour.
7 Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eye was not dimmed, nor were his teeth displaced.
Moïse était âgé de cent vingt ans lorsqu’il mourut; son regard ne s’était point terni, et sa vigueur n’était point épuisée.
8 And the sons of Israel wept for him in the plains of Moab for thirty days. And then the days of their wailing, during which they mourned Moses, were completed.
Les enfants d’Israël pleurèrent Moïse, dans les plaines de Moab, trente jours, épuisant complètement le temps des pleurs, le deuil de Moïse.
9 Truly, Joshua, the son of Nun, was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands upon him. And the sons of Israel were obedient to him, and they did as the Lord instructed Moses.
Or, Josué, fils de Noun, était plein de l’esprit de sagesse, parce que Moïse lui avait imposé les mains; et les enfants d’Israël lui obéirent et agirent comme l’Éternel l’avait prescrit à Moïse.
10 And no other prophet rose up in Israel like Moses, one whom the Lord knew face to face,
Mais il n’a plus paru, en Israël, un prophète tel que Moïse, avec qui le Seigneur avait communiqué face à face,
11 one with all the signs and wonders, which he sent through him, to perform in the land of Egypt, against Pharaoh, and all his servants, and his entire land,
eu égard à tant de signes et de prodiges que le Seigneur lui donna mission d’opérer en Egypte, sur Pharaon, ses serviteurs et son pays entier;
12 nor one with such a powerful hand and such great miracles as Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
ainsi qu’à cette main puissante, et à toutes ces imposantes merveilles, que Moïse accomplit aux yeux de tout Israël.
