< Deuteronomy 3 >
1 “And so, having turned back, we ascended by the way of Bashan. And Og, the king of Bashan, went forth with his people to meet us in warfare at Edrei.
Awo ne tukyuka ne twambukira mu kkubo eriraga e Basani. Ogi, Kabaka w’e Basani, n’afuluma n’eggye lye lyonna n’ajja okututabaala mu lutalo olwalwanirwa mu Ederei.
2 And the Lord said to me: ‘You should not fear him. For he has been delivered into your hand, with all his people as well as his land. And you shall do to him just as you have done to Sihon, the king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.’
Naye Mukama n’aŋŋamba nti, “Tomutya, kubanga oyo mmugabudde mu mukono gwo ye n’eggye lye lyonna n’ensi ye. Kale, mukole nga bwe wakola Sikoni Kabaka w’Abamoli abaabeeranga mu Kesuboni.”
3 Therefore, the Lord our God delivered into our hands, now Og, the king of Bashan, and all his people. And we struck them down unto utter annihilation,
Bw’atyo Mukama Katonda waffe n’agabula ne Ogi Kabaka w’e Basani mu mukono gwaffe awamu n’eggye lye lyonna. Ne tubatta bonna obutalekaawo muntu n’omu.
4 laying waste to all his cities at one time. There was not a village which escaped from us: sixty cities, the entire region of Argob, the kingdom of Og, in Bashan.
Era mu kiseera ekyo ne tuwamba ebibuga bye byonna ne tubitwala. Ebibuga enkaaga byonna tekwaliko kibuga na kimu kye tutaabatwalako, ne tutwala amatwale gonna aga Alugobu ag’obwakabaka bwa Ogi mu Basani.
5 All the cities were fortified with very high walls, and with gates and bars, in addition to innumerable villages which had no walls.
Ebibuga ebyo byonna byali bizimbiddwa mu bigo eby’ebisenge ebiwanvu, n’emizigo egy’emitayimbwa, ng’okwo kw’ogatta n’obubuga obw’omu byalo obutaaliko bisenge.
6 And we wiped them out, just as we had done to Sihon, the king of Heshbon, destroying every city, and its men, as well as women and children.
Twabizikiririza ddala byonna nga bwe twakola ebya Sikoni kabaka w’e Kesuboni, nga tuzikiriza buli kibuga n’abasajja bonna abaakirimu n’abakazi n’abaana abato bonna.
7 But the cattle and the spoils of the cities, we plundered.
Naye ente ne tuzeetwalira awamu n’omunyago gwe twaggya mu bibuga bye twawamba.
8 And at that time, we took the land from the hand of the two kings of the Amorites, who were across the Jordan: from the torrent Arnon as far as Mount Hermon,
Bwe tutyo mu kiseera ekyo ne tutwala ebitundu by’ensi byonna ebyali ebya bakabaka bombi ab’Abamoli ebyali ku luuyi lw’ebuvanjuba olw’omugga Yoludaani; okuva ku Kiwonvu Alunoni okutuuka ku Lusozi Kerumooni.
9 which the Sidonians call Sirion, and the Amorites call Senir,
Abasidoni nga Kerumooni baluyita Siriyooni, ate bo Abamoli nga baluyita Seniri.
10 all the cities that are situated in the plain, and the entire land of Gilead and Bashan, all the way to Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
Twatwala ebibuga byonna ebyali mu kitundu ekya waggulu ekitereevu ne Gireyaadi yonna ne Basani yonna okutuuka ku Saleka ne Ederei, ng’ebyo byali bibuga eby’omu bwakabaka bwa Ogi mu Basani.
11 For only Og, the king of Bashan, was left behind out of the race of the giants. His bed of iron is on display, (it is in Rabbah, among the sons of Ammon) being nine cubits in length, and four in width, according to the measure of the cubit of a man’s hand.
Ogi kabaka wa Basani ye yali asigaddewo ku Balefa. Ekitanda kye kyakolebwa mu kyuma, nga kiriko mita nnya obuwanvu, n’obugazi bwa mita emu n’obutundu munaana. Kikyaliyo mu Raba eky’Abamoni.
12 And we possessed the land, at that time, from Aroer, which is above the bank of the torrent Arnon, as far as the middle of Mount Gilead. And I gave its cities to Ruben and Gad.
Bwe twamala okwetwalira ebitundu by’ensi ebyo bye twawangula mu kaseera ako, ne ngabira Abalewubeeni n’Abagaadi ekitundu ekyo ekiri ku bukiikakkono okuva ku Aloweri n’okugendera ku mukugiro gw’Ekiwonvu kya Alunoni, n’ekitundu ekyamakkati eky’ensi y’ensozi eya Gireyaadi, awamu n’ebibuga byamu.
13 Then I delivered the remaining part of Gilead, and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, which is the entire region of Argob, to one half of the tribe of Manasseh. And all of Bashan is called the land of the giants.
Ekitundu kya Gireyaadi ekyasigalawo, n’obwakabaka bwa Ogi obwa Basani omugendera ne Alugabu, ne mbigabira ekitundu ky’ekika kya Manase. Ekitundu kya Alugabu kyonna mu Basani, wonna nga wayitibwa nsi ya Balefa.
14 Jair, the son of Manasseh, possessed all the region of Argob, as far as the borders of Geshur and Maacath. And he called Bashan by his own name, Havvoth Jair, that is, the villages of Jair, even to the present day.
Yayiri, ava mu Manase, yafuna ekitundu kyonna ekya Alugabu, era ye Basani, nga kyerambulula okutuukira ddala ku nsalo ey’Abagesuli n’Abamaakasi; n’akibbulamu erinnya lye, n’okutuusa leero ensi Basani eyitibwa Kavosu Yayiri.
15 Likewise, to Machir, I gave Gilead.
Gireyaadi nagigabira Makiri.
16 And to the tribes of Ruben and Gad, I gave from the land of Gilead as far as the torrent Arnon, one half of the torrent and its confines, even to the torrent Jabbok, which is along the border of the sons of Ammon,
Abalewubeeni n’Abagaadi ne mbagabira ekitundu ky’ensi ekiva ku Gireyaadi okuserengeta mu Kiwonvu kya Alunoni, nga mu makkati gaakyo ye nsalo, n’okutuukira ddala ku mugga Yaboki ogw’ensalo n’Abamoni.
17 and the plain of the wilderness, as well as the Jordan, and the borders of Chinnereth, all the way to the sea of the desert, which is very salty, to the base of Mount Pisgah toward the east.
Omugga Yoludaani nga ye nsalo ey’ebugwanjuba mu Alaba, okuviira ddala ku Kinneresi okutuuka ku Nnyanja ya Alaba, ye Nnyanja ey’Omunnyo, wansi w’olugulungujjo lw’olusozi Pisuga ku luuyi olw’ebuvanjuba.
18 And I instructed you at that time, saying: ‘The Lord your God gives to you this land as an inheritance. Having armed yourselves, go before your brothers, the sons of Israel, all you strong men.
Mu kiseera ekyo, mmwe ab’ekika kya Lewubeeni, n’ekya Gaadi, n’ekitundu ky’ekika kya Manase, nabalagira nga mbagamba nti, “Mukama Katonda wammwe abawadde ekitundu ky’ensi kino okubeera obutaka bwammwe. Naye basajja bammwe bonna ab’amaanyi abazira nga beesibye ebyokulwanyisa, be balisooka baganda bammwe abaana ba Isirayiri okusomoka Yoludaani.
19 Leave behind your wives and little ones, as well as the cattle. For I know that you have many cattle, and they should remain in the cities which I have delivered to you,
Kyokka, bakazi bammwe, n’abaana bammwe balisigala mu bibuga bye nabawa awamu n’ente zammwe ze mulina, ze mmanyi nga bwe ziri ennyingi,
20 until the Lord provides rest to your brothers, just as he has provided for you. And they, too, shall possess the land, which he will give to them beyond the Jordan. Then each one shall return to his possession, which I have allotted to you.’
okutuusa nga baganda bammwe bamaze okwetwalira ensi eri emitala w’omugga Yoludaani, Mukama Katonda wammwe gy’abawa; Mukama alyoke awe baganda bammwe ekiwummulo nga nammwe bwe yakibawa. Oluvannyuma mulikomawo mu butaka bwammwe bwe nabagabira.”
21 Likewise, I instructed Joshua at that time, saying: ‘Your eyes have seen what the Lord your God has done to these two kings. So also will he do to all the kingdoms through which you shall pass.
Mu kiseera ekyo ne ndagira Yoswa, ne mmugamba nti, “Ebyo byonna Mukama Katonda wammwe byakoze bakabaka abo ababiri obyerabiddeko n’amaaso go gennyini. Bw’atyo Mukama bw’alikola obwakabaka bwonna obuli eyo gye mugenda.
22 You should not fear them. For the Lord your God will fight on your behalf.’
Temubatyanga; kubanga Mukama Katonda wammwe yennyini y’anaabalwaniriranga.”
23 And I beseeched the Lord at that time, saying:
Mu kiseera ekyo ne neegayirira Mukama nga njogera nti,
24 ‘Lord God, you have begun to reveal your greatness and your very strong hand to your servant. For there is no other god, either in heaven or on earth, who is able to accomplish your works, or to be compared to your strength.
“Ayi Mukama Katonda, otandise okundaga nze omuddu wo, omukono gwo ogw’amaanyi n’obukulu bwo obw’ekitiibwa. Kubanga katonda ki ali mu ggulu oba ali ku nsi asobola okukola ebyekyewuunyo bino byonna by’okola, n’emirimu egy’amaanyi bwe gityo gy’okola?
25 Therefore, I will cross over, and I will view this excellent land beyond the Jordan, and this singular mountain, and Lebanon.’
Nkusaba, nsomoke omugga Yoludaani, ŋŋende ndabe ku nsi ennungi bw’etyo eri emitala waagwo, ensi eyo ey’ensozi ezirabika obulungi, awamu ne Lebanooni.”
26 And the Lord became angry with me because of you, and he would not heed me. But he said to me: ‘It is enough for you. You shall no longer speak to me at all about this matter.
Naye Mukama n’ansunguwalira nnyo ku lwammwe, bye namusaba n’atabiwuliriza. Mukama Katonda n’aŋŋamba nti, “Ebyo by’oyogedde bikumale; toddayo kwogera gye ndi nate ku nsonga eyo.
27 Ascend to the summit of Pisgah, and look around with your eyes to the west, and to the north, and to the south, and to the east, and behold it. For you shall not cross this Jordan.
Yambuka waggulu ku ntikko y’olusozi Pisuga, ositule amaaso go otunule ebugwanjuba, ne ku bukiikakkono, n’ebuvanjuba ne ku bukiikaddyo. Weerabireko ku nsi eyo n’amaaso go gennyini, kubanga togenda kusomoka mugga guno Yoludaani.
28 Instruct Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him. For he shall go before this people, and he shall distribute to them the land that you will see.’
Naye obuyinza bukwase Yoswa, omukuutire era omugumye afune amaanyi, kubanga y’agenda okukulembera abantu bano nga basomoka, era ye alibasobozesa okulya ensi eyo gy’ojja okulaba, okubeera obutaka bwabwe.”
29 And we remained in the valley, opposite the shrine of Peor.”
Bwe tutyo ne tubeera awo mu kiwonvu okumpi ne Besu Peoli.
