Daniel 3
1 King Nebuchadnezzar made a statue of gold, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide, and he set it up in the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon.
La dix-huitième année de son règne, Nabuchodonosor fit faire une statue d'or, haute de soixante coudées, sur six d'épaisseur, et il l'érigea en la plaine de Déira, dans la province de Babylone.
2 Then king Nebuchadnezzar sent to gather together the governors, magistrates and judges, generals and sovereigns and commanders, and all the leaders of the regions, to come together for the dedication of the statue, which king Nebuchadnezzar had raised.
Et il convoqua les grands, les généraux et les gouverneurs, les rois, les tyrans et les dignitaires, et tous les chefs des provinces pour venir à l'inauguration de la statue.
3 Then the governors, magistrates and judges, generals and sovereigns and nobles, who were appointed to power, and all the leaders of the regions were brought together so as to convene for the dedication of the statue, which king Nebuchadnezzar had raised. And so they stood before the statue that king Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
Et les gouverneurs, les grands, les généraux, les rois, les principaux tyrans, les dignitaires et les chefs des provinces se rassemblèrent pour l'inauguration de la statue qu'avait érigée le roi Nabuchodonosor, et ils se placèrent debout devant la statue.
4 And a herald proclaimed loudly, “To you it is said, to you peoples, tribes, and languages,
Et le héraut proclama à haute voix: Ceci vous et prescrit, peuples, tribus, hommes de toutes langues:
5 that in the hour when you will hear the sound of the trumpet and the pipe and the lute, the harp and the psaltery, and of the symphony and every kind of music, you must fall down and adore the gold statue, which king Nebuchadnezzar has set up.
À l'instant où vous entendrez le son de la trompette et de la flûte, de la cithare, de la harpe et du psaltérion, et des instruments de toute sorte, tombez la face contre terre, et adorez la statue d'or que le roi Nabuchodonosor a érigée.
6 But if anyone will not bow down and adore, in the same hour he will be cast into a furnace of burning fire.”
Et celui qui n'adorera pas, en tombant à genoux, sera jeté aussitôt dans la fournaise ardente où le feu est allumé.
7 After this, therefore, as soon as all the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the pipe and the lute, the harp and the psaltery, and of the symphony and every kind of music, all the peoples, tribes, and languages fell down and adored the gold statue, which king Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
Or ceci advint: dès que les peuples entendirent le son de la trompette et de la flûte, de la cithare, de la harpe et du psaltérion, et des instruments de toute sorte, les peuples tombèrent la face contre terre, et ils adorèrent la statue d'or que le roi Nabuchodonosor avait érigée.
8 And soon, about the same time, some influential Chaldeans came and accused the Jews,
Alors vinrent des hommes de la Chaldée et ils accusèrent les Juifs
9 and they said to king Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever.
Devant le roi, disant: Ô roi, vis à jamais!
10 You, O king, have established a decree, so that every man who might hear the sound of the trumpet, the pipe and the lute, the harp and the psaltery, and of the symphony and every kind of music, will prostrate himself and adore the gold statue.
Ô toi, tu as fait une ordonnance, disant: Que tout homme qui entendra le son de la trompette et de la flûte, de la cithare, de la harpe et du psaltérion, et des instruments de toute sorte,
11 But if any man will not fall down and adore, he would be cast into a furnace of burning fire.
Et qui ne tombera pas la face contre terre pour adorer la statue d'or, soit jeté dans la fournaise ardente où le feu est allumé.
12 Yet there are influential Jews, whom you have appointed over the works of the region of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, have scorned your decree. They do not worship your gods, and they do not adore the gold statue which you have raised up.”
Or il y a des hommes, des Juifs, que tu as chargés de toutes les affaires de la province de Babylone, Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, qui n'ont point obéi à ton ordre, ô roi; tes dieux, ils ne les honorent pas; et la statue d'or que tu as érigée, ils ne l'adorent point.
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar, in fury and in wrath, commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego should be brought, and so, without delay, they were brought before the king.
Alors Nabuchodonosor, plein de colère et de fureur, commanda de lui amener Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, et on les amena en présence du roi.
14 And king Nebuchadnezzar addressed them and said, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not worship my gods, nor adore the gold statue, which I have set up?
Et Nabuchodonosor prit la parole, et leur dit: Est-il vrai, Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, que vous ne servez point mes dieux, et que vous n'adorez pas la statue d'or que j'ai élevée?
15 Therefore, if you are prepared now, whenever you hear the sound of the trumpet, pipe, lute, harp and psaltery, and of the symphony and every kind of music, prostrate yourselves and adore the statue which I have made. But if you will not adore, in the same hour you will be cast into the furnace of burning fire. And who is the God that will rescue you from my hand?”
Maintenant donc, si vous y êtes disposés, aussitôt que vous entendrez le son de la trompette, de la flûte et de la cithare, de la harpe et du psaltérion, et le concert des instruments de toute sorte, tombez la face contre terre, et adorez la statue d'or que j'ai faite. Que si vous ne l'adorez pas, à l'instant même vous serez jetés dans la fournaise ardente, où le feu est allumé; et quel est le Dieu qui vous tirera de mes mains?
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to king Nebuchadnezzar, “It is not right for us to obey you in this matter.
Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago répondirent au roi Nabuchodonosor, disant: Il n'est pas nécessaire que nous te fassions une réponse à cette question.
17 For behold our God, whom we worship, is able to rescue us from the oven of burning fire and to free us from your hands, O king.
Car notre Dieu qui est au ciel, le Dieu que nous servons, peut nous tirer de la fournaise ardente et nous sauver, ô roi, d'entre tes mains.
18 But even if he will not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not worship your gods, nor adore the gold statue, which you have raised up.”
Et quand même il ne le ferait pas, sache, ô roi, que tes dieux nous ne les servons pas, et que la statue d'or que tu as élevée, nous ne l'adorons point.
19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury and the appearance of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and he commanded that the furnace should be heated to seven times its usual fire.
Alors Nabuchodonosor, plein de colère, changea de visage envers Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, et il ordonna de rendre sept fois plus ardent le feu de la fournaise, jusqu'à ce qu'enfin il ne fût plus qu'un brasier.
20 And he ordered the strongest men of his army to bind the feet of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the furnace of burning fire.
Et il ordonna à des hommes robustes de mettre des entraves à Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, puis de les jeter dans la fournaise ardente.
21 And immediately these men were bound, and along with their coats, and their hats, and their shoes, and their garments, were cast into the middle of the furnace of burning fire.
Aussitôt ces jeunes gens furent enchaînés sans qu'on leur ôtât ni leurs hauts-de-chausses, ni leurs tiares, ni leurs chaussures, et ils furent jetés au milieu des flammes de la fournaise;
22 But the king’s order was so urgent that the furnace was heated excessively. As a result, those men who had cast in Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, were killed by the flame of the fire.
Car la parole du roi était pressante, et la fournaise était plus ardente que jamais.
23 But these three men, that is, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, having been bound, fell down in the middle of the oven of burning fire.
Et Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago tombèrent tous trois enchaînés au milieu des flammes de la fournaise embrasée.
24 Then king Nebuchadnezzar was astonished, and he quickly got up and said to his nobles: “Did we not cast three men shackled into the midst of the fire?” Answering the king, they said, “True, O king.”
Et Nabuchodonosor les entendit chanter des hymnes, et il fut frappé d'étonnement, et il se leva précipitamment, et il dit aux grands qui l'entouraient: N'avons-nous pas jeté au milieu du feu trois hommes enchaînés? et ils dirent au roi: Oui, seigneur.
25 He answered and said, “Behold, I see four men unbound and walking in the midst of the fire, and no harm is in them, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of God.”
Et le roi dit: Et moi, je vois quatre hommes sans liens, se promenant au milieu des flammes, et la destruction n'est pas avec eux, et l'aspect du quatrième ressemble à un fils de Dieu.
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar approached the entrance of the furnace of burning fire, and he said, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the supreme God, come out and approach.” And immediately Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego went out from the midst of the fire.
Alors Nabuchodonosor s'approcha de la porte de la fournaise ardente, et il dit: Sidrach, Misach, Abdénago, serviteurs du Dieu tout-puissant, sortez et venez! Et Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago sortirent du milieu des flammes.
27 And when the governors, and the magistrates, and the judges, and the powerful of the king had gathered together, they considered these men because the fire had no power against their bodies, and not a hair of their head had been scorched, and their pants had not been affected, and the smell of the fire had not passed onto them.
Et les satrapes, et les généraux, et les gouverneurs et les lieutenants du roi se rassemblèrent, et ils virent ces hommes sur qui le feu n'avait eu nulle puissance en leur corps; pas un cheveu de leur tête n'était brûlé; leur vêtement n'était point altéré, et nulle odeur de feu n'était en eux.
28 Then Nebuchadnezzar, bursting out, said, “Blessed is their God, the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who sent his angel and rescued his servants who believed in him. And they altered the verdict of the king, and they delivered up their bodies, so that they would not serve or adore any god except their God.
Et le roi Nabuchodonosor prit la parole, et il dit: Béni soit le Dieu de Sidrach, de Misach et d'Abdénago, qui a envoyé son ange, et délivré ses serviteurs, parce qu'ils avaient eu confiance eu lui; ils désobéirent à la parole du roi, et ils abandonnèrent leurs corps à la flamme, pour ne point adorer ni servir d'autre dieu que leur Dieu.
29 Therefore, this decree is established by me: that every people, tribe, and language, whenever they have spoken blasphemy against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, will perish and their homes will be destroyed. For there is no other God who is able to save in this way.”
Et moi je proclame ce décret: Tout peuple, toute tribu, tout homme, de quelque langue qu'il soit, qui profèrera un blasphème contre le Dieu de Sidrach, de Misach et d'Abdénago, sera exterminé; ses maisons seront livrées au pillage; parce qu'il n'est point d'autre Dieu qui puisse sauver ainsi.
30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
Ensuite le roi rétablit Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago à la tête de la province de Babylone; et il les éleva en honneur, et les jugea dignes de commander à tous les Juifs qui étaient dans son royaume.
