Amos 8
1 These things the Lord has revealed to me. And behold, a hook to draw down fruit.
Ainsi le Seigneur Yahvé m'a montré: voici une corbeille de fruits d'été.
2 And he said, “What do you see, Amos?” And I said, “A hook to draw down fruit.” And the Lord said to me, “The end has come for my people Israel. I will no longer pass through them.”
Il dit: « Amos, que vois-tu? » J'ai dit: « Un panier de fruits d'été. » Alors Yahvé me dit, « La fin est venue sur mon peuple Israël. Je ne passerai plus devant eux.
3 And the hinges of the temple will creak in that day, says the Lord God. Many will die. Silence will be thrown away in all places.
Les chants du temple seront des gémissements en ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur Yahvé. « Les cadavres seront nombreux. En tout lieu, on les jettera en silence.
4 Hear this, you who crush the poor and who make those in need of land to do without.
Écoutez ceci, vous qui voulez engloutir les indigents, et faire échouer les pauvres du pays,
5 You say, “When will the first day of the month be over, so we can sell our wares, and the Sabbath, so we can open the grain: in order that we may decrease the measure, and increase the price, and substitute deceitful scales,
en disant: « Quand la nouvelle lune sera-t-elle passée, pour que nous puissions vendre du blé? Et le sabbat, pour que nous puissions commercialiser le blé, rendant l'épha petit, et le shekel grand, et de traiter faussement avec des balances de tromperie;
6 in order that we may possess the destitute with money, and the poor for a pair of shoes, and may sell even the refuse of the grain?”
afin que nous puissions acheter les pauvres pour de l'argent, et les nécessiteux pour une paire de sandales, et vendre les balayures avec le blé? »
7 The Lord has sworn by the arrogance of Jacob: I will not forget, even to the end, all their works.
Yahvé a juré par l'orgueil de Jacob, « Je n'oublierai certainement jamais aucune de leurs œuvres.
8 Will not the earth shudder over this, and all its inhabitants mourn, and all rise up like a river, and be cast out, and flow away like the river of Egypt?
Le pays ne tremblera-t-il pas pour cela? et tous ceux qui l'habitent en deuil? Oui, il s'élèvera entièrement comme le fleuve; et il sera remué et coulera de nouveau, comme le fleuve d'Égypte.
9 And it will be in that day, says the Lord God, that the sun will decline at midday, and I will cause the earth to become dark on the day of light.
Cela arrivera en ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur Yahvé, « que je ferai en sorte que le soleil se couche à midi, et j'obscurcirai la terre en plein jour.
10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your hymns into lamentation. And I will put sackcloth over every one of your backs, and baldness on every head. And I will begin it like the mourning for an only-begotten son, and complete it like a bitter day.
Je transformerai vos fêtes en deuil, et toutes vos chansons en lamentations; et je vous ferai porter le sac sur tout votre corps, et la calvitie sur toutes les têtes. Je le ferai comme le deuil d'un fils unique, et sa fin comme un jour amer.
11 Behold, the days pass, says the Lord, and I will send a famine on the earth: not a famine of bread, nor of thirst for water, but for hearing the word of the Lord.
Voici, les jours viennent, dit le Seigneur Yahvé, « que j'enverrai une famine dans le pays, pas une famine de pain, ni la soif d'eau, mais d'entendre les paroles de Yahvé.
12 And they will move even from sea to sea, and from the North all the way to the East. They will wander around seeking the word of the Lord, and they will not find it.
Ils erreront d'une mer à l'autre, et du nord jusqu'à l'est; ils courront de long en large pour chercher la parole de Yahvé, et ne le trouveront pas.
13 In that day, beautiful virgins, and young men, will fail because of thirst.
En ce jour-là, les belles vierges et les jeunes hommes s'évanouiront de soif.
14 They swear by the offense of Samaria, and they say, “As your God lives, Dan,” and “The way of Beer-sheba lives.” And they will fall, and they will not rise up any more.
Ceuxqui jurent par le péché de Samarie, et dire: « Ton dieu, Dan, est vivant ». et, « Comme le chemin de Beersheba vit, ils tomberont, et ne se relèveront jamais. »
