2 Samuel 15
1 Then, after these things, Absalom obtained for himself chariots, and horsemen, and fifty men who went before him.
Or il arriva après cela qu'Absalom se pourvut de chariots, et de chevaux; et il avait cinquante archers qui marchaient devant lui.
2 And rising up in the morning, Absalom was standing beside the entrance of the gate. And when there was any man who had a dispute that might go before the king’s judgment, Absalom would call him to him, and would say, “Which city are you from?” And responding, he would say, “I am your servant, from a certain tribe of Israel.”
Et Absalom se levait le matin, et se tenait à côté du chemin qui allait vers la porte; et s'il y avait quelqu'un qui eût quelque affaire, pour laquelle il fallût aller vers le Roi afin de demander justice, Absalom l'appelait, et lui disait: De quelle ville es-tu? et il répondait: Ton serviteur est d'une telle Tribu d'Israël.
3 And Absalom would answer him: “Your words seem good and just to me. But there is no one appointed by the king to hear you.” And Absalom would say:
Et Absalom lui disait: Regarde, ta cause est bonne et droite; mais tu n'as personne qui [ait ordre du] Roi de t'entendre.
4 “Who may appoint me judge over the land, so that all those who have a dispute might come to me, and I might judge justly.”
Absalom disait encore: Oh! que ne m'établit-on pour juge dans le pays! et tout homme qui aurait des procès, et qui aurait droit, viendrait vers moi, et je lui ferais justice.
5 Then too, when a man would draw near to him, so that he might greet him, he would extend his hand, and taking hold of him, he would kiss him.
Il arrivait aussi que quand quelqu'un s'approchait de lui pour se prosterner devant lui, il lui tendait sa main, et le prenait, et le baisait.
6 And he was doing this to all those of Israel arriving for judgment to be heard by the king. And he solicited the hearts of the men of Israel.
Absalom en faisait ainsi à tous ceux d'Israël qui venaient vers le Roi pour avoir justice; et Absalom gagnait les cœurs de ceux d'Israël.
7 Then, after forty years, Absalom said to king David: “I should go and pay my vows, which I have vowed to the Lord at Hebron.
Et il arriva au bout de quarante ans, qu'Absalom dit au Roi: Je te prie que je m'en aille à Hébron pour m'acquitter de mon vœu que j'ai voué à l'Eternel.
8 For your servant made a vow, when he was in Geshur of Syria, saying: If the Lord will lead me back to Jerusalem, I will sacrifice to the Lord.”
Car quand ton serviteur demeurait à Guesur en Syrie, il fit un vœu, en disant: Si l'Eternel me ramène pour être en repos à Jérusalem, j'en témoignerai ma reconnaissance à l'Eternel.
9 And king David said to him, “Go in peace.” And he rose up and went away to Hebron.
Et le Roi lui répondit: Va en paix. Il se leva donc et s'en alla à Hébron.
10 Then Absalom sent scouts into all the tribes of Israel, saying: “As soon as you hear the blare of the trumpet, say: ‘Absalom reigns in Hebron.’”
Or Absalom avait envoyé dans toutes les Tribus d'Israël des gens apostés, pour dire: Aussitôt que vous aurez entendu le son de la trompette, dites: Absalom est établi Roi à Hébron.
11 Now having been called, two hundred men from Jerusalem went forth with Absalom, going in simplicity of heart and being entirely ignorant of the plan.
Et deux cents hommes de Jérusalem qui avaient été invités, s'en allèrent avec Absalom, et ils y allaient dans la simplicité [de leur cœur], ne sachant rien de [cette affaire].
12 Absalom also summoned Ahithophel the Gilonite, a counselor of David, from his city, Giloh. And when he was immolating victims, a very strong oath was sworn, and the people, hurrying together, joined with Absalom.
Absalom envoya aussi appeler, quand il offrait ses sacrifices, Achithophel Guilonite, conseiller de David, de sa ville de Guilo; et la conjuration devint plus puissante, parce que le peuple allait en augmentant avec Absalom.
13 Then a messenger went to David, saying, “With their whole heart, all of Israel is following Absalom.”
Alors il vint à David un messager, qui lui dit: Tous ceux d'Israël ont leur cœur tourné vers Absalom.
14 And David said to his servants, who were with him in Jerusalem: “Rise up, let us flee! For otherwise there will be no escape for us from the face of Absalom. Hurry to depart, lest perhaps, upon arriving, he may seize us, and force ruin upon us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”
Et David dit à tous ses serviteurs qui étaient avec lui à Jérusalem: Levez-vous, et fuyons; car nous ne saurions échapper devant Absalom. Hâtez-vous d'aller, de peur qu'il ne se hâte, qu'il ne nous atteigne, qu'il ne fasse venir le mal sur nous, et qu'il ne frappe la ville au tranchant de l'épée.
15 And the servants of the king said to him, “Everything whatsoever that our lord the king will command, we your servants shall carry out willingly.”
Et les serviteurs du Roi répondirent au Roi: Tes serviteurs sont prêts à faire tout ce que le Roi notre Seigneur trouvera bon.
16 Therefore, the king departed, with his entire household on foot. And the king left behind ten women of the concubines to care for the house.
Le Roi donc sortit, et toute sa maison le suivait; mais le Roi laissa dix femmes, [qui étaient ses] concubines, pour garder la maison.
17 And having gone forth on foot, the king and all of Israel stood at a distance from the house.
Le Roi donc sortit, et tout le peuple le suivait; et ils s'arrêtèrent en un lieu éloigné.
18 And all his servants were walking beside him. And the legions of the Cerethites and Phelethites, and all the Gittites, powerful fighters, six hundred men who had followed him from Gath on foot, were preceding the king.
Et tous ses serviteurs marchaient à côté de lui; et tous les Kéréthiens, et tous les Péléthiens, et tous les Guittiens, [qui étaient] six cents hommes venus de Gath, pour être à sa suite, marchaient devant le Roi.
19 Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite: “Why do you come with us? Return and live with the king. For you are a stranger, and you departed from your own place.
Mais le Roi dit à Ittaï, Guittien: Pourquoi viendrais-tu aussi avec nous? retourne-t'en, et demeure avec le Roi; car tu es étranger, et même tu vas retourner [bientôt] en ton lieu.
20 You arrived yesterday. And today should you be compelled to go away with us? For I should go to the place where I am going. But you should return, and lead your own brothers back with you. And the Lord will show mercy and truth to you, because you have shown grace and faith.”
Tu ne fais que de venir; et te ferais-je aujourd'hui aller errant çà et là avec nous? car quant à moi, je m'en vais où je pourrai; retourne-t'en et remène tes frères; que la gratuité et la vérité soient avec toi.
21 And Ittai responded to the king, by saying, “As the Lord lives, and as my lord the king lives, in whatever place you will be, my lord the king, whether in death or in life, your servant will be there.”
Mais Ittaï répondit au Roi, en disant: L'Eternel est vivant, et le Roi mon Seigneur vit, qu'en quelque lieu où le Roi mon Seigneur sera, soit à la mort, soit à la vie, ton serviteur y sera aussi.
22 And David said to Ittai, “Come, and pass over.” And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all the men who were with him, and the rest of the multitude.
David donc dit à Ittaï: Viens, et marche. Alors Ittaï Guittien marcha avec tous ses gens, et tous ses petits enfants qui étaient avec lui.
23 And they all wept with a great voice, and all the people passed over. The king also passed over the torrent Kidron. And all the people advanced opposite the way which looks out toward the desert.
Et tout le pays pleurait à grands cris, et tout le peuple passait plus avant; puis le Roi passa le torrent de Cédron, et tout le peuple passa vis-à-vis du chemin tirant vers le désert;
24 Now Zadok the priest also went, and all the Levites went with him, carrying the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God. And Abiathar went up, until all the people who had departed from the city had gone by.
Là aussi était Tsadok avec tous les Lévites qui portaient l'Arche de l'alliance de Dieu, et ils posèrent [là] l'Arche de Dieu; et Abiathar monta pendant que tout le peuple achevait de sortir de la ville.
25 And the king said to Zadok: “Carry back the ark of God into the city. If I shall find grace in the sight of the Lord, he will lead me back. And he will show it to me in his tabernacle.
Et le Roi dit à Tsadok: Reporte l'Arche de Dieu dans la ville; si j'ai trouvé grâce devant l'Eternel il me ramènera, et me la fera voir, avec son Tabernacle.
26 But if he will say to me, ‘You are not pleasing,’ I am ready. Let him do whatever is good in his own sight.”
Que s'il me dit ainsi: Je ne prends point de plaisir en toi; me voici, qu'il fasse de moi ce qu'il lui semblera bon.
27 And the king said to Zadok the priest: “O seer, return into the city in peace. And let your son Ahimaaz, and Jonathan, the son of Abiathar, your two sons, be with you.
Le Roi dit encore au Sacrificateur Tsadok: N'es-tu pas le Voyant? retourne-t'en en paix à la ville, et Ahimahats ton fils, et Jonathan fils d'Abiathar, vos deux fils avec vous.
28 Behold, I will hide in the plains of the desert, until word from you may arrive to inform me.”
Regardez, je m'en vais demeurer dans les campagnes du désert, jusqu'à ce qu'on vienne m'apporter des nouvelles de votre part.
29 Therefore, Zadok and Abiathar carried back the ark of God into Jerusalem, and they remained there.
Tsadok donc et Abiathar reportèrent l'Arche de Dieu à Jérusalem, et demeurèrent là.
30 But David ascended to the Mount of Olives, climbing and weeping, advancing with bare feet and with his head covered. Moreover, all the people who were with him ascended, weeping with their heads covered.
Et David montait par la montée des oliviers, et en montant il pleurait, et il avait la tête couverte, et marchait nu-pieds; tout le peuple aussi qui était avec lui, montait chacun ayant sa tête couverte, et en montant ils pleuraient.
31 Then it was reported to David that Ahithophel also had joined in swearing with Absalom. And David said, “O Lord, I beg you, to uncover the foolishness of the counsel of Ahithophel.”
Alors on fit ce rapport à David, et on lui dit: Achithophel est parmi ceux qui ont conjuré avec Absalom. Et David dit: Je te prie, ô Eternel! assoli le conseil d'Achithophel.
32 And when David had ascended to the summit of the mountain, where he was going to adore the Lord, behold Hushai the Archite met him, with his garment torn and his head covered with soil.
Et il arriva que quand David fut venu jusqu'au sommet [de la montagne], là où il se prosterna devant Dieu, voici Cusaï Arkite, vint au devant de lui, ayant ses habits déchirés, et de la terre sur sa tête.
33 And David said to him: “If you come with me, you will be a burden to me.
Et David lui dit: Tu me seras à charge, si tu passes plus avant avec moi.
34 But if you return to the city, and you say to Absalom, ‘I am your servant, O king; just as I have been the servant of your father, so too will I be your servant,’ you will destroy the counsel of Ahithophel
Mais si tu t'en retournes à la ville, et si tu dis à Absalom: Ô Roi! je serai ton serviteur, et comme j'ai été dès longtemps serviteur de ton père, je serai maintenant ton serviteur, tu dissiperas le conseil d'Achithophel.
35 And you have with you the priests Zadok and Abiathar. And any word whatsoever that you will hear from the house of the king, you shall reveal it to Zadok and Abiathar, the priests.
Et les Sacrificateurs Tsadok et Abiathar ne seront-ils pas là avec toi? de sorte que tout ce que tu auras entendu de la maison du Roi, tu le rapporteras aux Sacrificateurs Tsadok et Abiathar.
36 Now with them are their two sons Ahimaaz, the son of Zadok, and Jonathan, the son of Abiathar. And you shall send to me by them every word that you will have heard.”
Voici leurs deux fils, Ahimahats [fils] de Tsadok, et Jonathan [fils] d'Abiathar, sont là avec eux; vous m'apprendrez par eux tout ce que vous aurez entendu.
37 Therefore, Hushai, the friend of David, went into the city. And Absalom also entered into Jerusalem.
Ainsi Cusaï l'intime ami de David retourna dans la ville, et Absalom vint à Jérusalem.
