2 Chronicles 17

1 Then Jehoshaphat, his son, reigned in his place. And he grew strong against Israel.

Och hans son Josafat blev konung; efter honom. Han befäste sitt välde mot Israel.

2 And he appointed numbers of soldiers in all the cities of Judah that had been fortified with walls. And he placed garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had seized.

Han lade in krigsfolk i alla Juda fasta städer och lade in besättningar i Juda land och i de Efraims städer som hans fader Asa hade intagit.

3 And the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father, David. And he did not trust in the Baals,

Och HERREN var med Josafat, ty han vandrade på sin fader Davids första vägar och sökte icke Baalerna,

4 but in the God of his father. And he advanced in his precepts, and not according to the sins of Israel.

utan sökte sin faders Gud och vandrade efter hans bud och gjorde icke såsom Israel.

5 And the Lord confirmed the kingdom in his hand. And all of Judah gave gifts to Jehoshaphat. And innumerable riches were brought to him, and much glory.

Därför befäste HERREN konungadömet i hans hand, och hela Juda gav skänker åt Josafat, så att hans rikedom och ära blev stor.

6 And when his heart had taken courage because of the ways of the Lord, he now also took away the high places and the sacred groves from Judah.

Och då hans frimodighet växte på HERRENS vägar, skaffade han också bort offerhöjderna och Aserorna ur Juda.

7 Then, in the third year of his reign, he sent Benhail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah, from among his leaders, so that they might teach in the cites of Judah.

Och i sitt tredje regeringsår sände han ut sina hövdingar Ben-Hail, Obadja, Sakarja, Netanel och Mikaja, till att undervisa i Juda städer,

8 And with them were the Levites Shemaiah and Nethaniah and Zebadiah, and also Asahel and Shemiramoth and Jehonathan, and the Levites Adonijah and Tobijah and Tobadonijah. And with them were the priests Elishama and Jehoram.

och med dem några leviter, nämligen leviterna Semaja, Netanja, Sebadja, Asael, Semiramot, Jonatan, Adonia, Tobia och Tob-Adonia; och de hade med sig prästerna Elisama och Joram.

9 And they were teaching the people in Judah, having with them the book of the law of the Lord. And they were traveling through all the cities of Judah, and were instructing the people.

Dessa undervisade nu i Juda och hade HERRENS lagbok med sig; de foro omkring i alla Juda städer och undervisade bland folket.

10 And so, the fear of the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands which were around Judah. And they did not dare to make war against Jehoshaphat.

Och en förskräckelse ifrån HERREN kom över alla riken i de länder som lågo omkring Juda, så att de icke vågade kriga mot Josafat.

11 Moreover, the Philistines carried gifts to Jehoshaphat, and a tribute in silver. Also, the Arabians brought cattle: seven thousand seven hundred rams, and the same number of he-goats.

Och en del av filistéerna förde skänker till Josafat och gåvo silver i skatt. Därtill förde ock araberna till honom småboskap, sju tusen sju hundra vädurar och sju tusen sju undra bockar.

12 Therefore, Jehoshaphat increased and was magnified, even on high. And in Judah, he built houses in the likeness of towers, and walled cities.

Så blev Josafat allt mäktigare och till slut övermåttan mäktig. Och han byggde borgar och förrådsstäder i Juda.

13 And he prepared many works in the cities of Judah. Also, there were men experienced in warfare in Jerusalem,

Han hade stora upplag i Juda städer; och krigsfolk, tappra stridsmän, hade han i Jerusalem.

14 and this is the number of them, by each of the houses and families. In Judah, the leader of the army was Adnah, the commander; and with him were three hundred thousand very experienced men.

Och detta var ordningen bland dem, efter deras familjer. Till Juda hörde följande överhövitsmän: hövitsmannen Adna och med honom tre hundra tusen tappra stridsmän;

15 After him, Jehohanan was the leader; and with him were two hundred eighty thousand.

därnäst hövitsmannen Johanan och med honom två hundra åttio tusen;

16 Also after him, there was Amasiah, the son of Zichri, who was consecrated to the Lord; and with him were two hundred thousand strong men.

därnäst Amasja, Sikris son, som frivilligt hade givit sig i HERRENS tjänst, och med honom två hundra tusen tappra stridsmän.

17 Following him, there was Eliada, who was experienced in battle; and with him were two hundred thousand, holding bow and shield.

Men från Benjamin voro: Eljada, en tapper stridsman, och med honom två hundra tusen, väpnade med båge och sköld;

18 Then too, after him, there was Jehozabad; and with him were one hundred eighty thousand lightly-armed soldiers.

därnäst Josabad och med honom ett hundra åttio tusen, rustade till strid.

19 All these were at the hand of the king, aside from the others, whom he had positioned in the walled cities, in all of Judah.

Dessa voro de som gjorde tjänst hos konungen; därtill kommo de som konungen hade förlagt i de befästa städerna i hela Juda.
