1 Corinthians 1
1 Paul, called as an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God; and Sosthenes, a brother:
Paul, appelé par la volonté de Dieu à être apôtre de Jésus-Christ, et Sosthène, notre frère,
2 to the Church of God which is at Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints with all who are invoking the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place of theirs and of ours.
à l'Église de Dieu qui est à Corinthe, à ceux qui sont sanctifiés en Jésus-Christ, appelés à être saints, et à tous ceux qui invoquent, en quelque lieu que ce soit, le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, leur Seigneur et le nôtre.
3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Que la grâce et la paix vous soient données de la part de Dieu, notre Père, et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
4 I give thanks to my God continuously for you because of the grace of God that has been given to you in Christ Jesus.
Je ne cesse de bénir mon Dieu à votre sujet, à cause de la, grâce qui vous a été accordée par lui, en Jésus-Christ;
5 By that grace, in all things, you have become wealthy in him, in every word and in all knowledge.
car vous avez été enrichis de tous les dons, ceux de la parole et ceux de la connaissance,
6 And so, the testimony of Christ has been strengthened in you.
le témoignage du Christ ayant été fermement établi parmi vous.
7 In this way, nothing is lacking to you in any grace, as you await the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Aussi ne vous manque-t-il aucun don, à vous qui attendez le moment où apparaîtra notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
8 And he, too, will strengthen you, even until the end, without guilt, until the day of the advent of our Lord Jesus Christ.
C'est lui qui vous rendra fermes jusqu'à la fin, pour que vous soyez irréprochables au jour de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
9 God is faithful. Through him, you have been called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Le Dieu par qui vous avez été appelés à la communion de son Fils Jésus-Christ, notre Seigneur, est un Dieu fidèle.
10 And so, I beg you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that every one of you speak in the same way, and that there be no schisms among you. So may you become perfect, with the same mind and with the same judgment.
Je vous exhorte, frères, au nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, à tenir tous le même langage et à n'avoir point de divisions parmi vous, mais à être bien unis dans une même pensée et dans un même sentiment.
11 For it has been indicated to me, about you, my brothers, by those who are with Chloes, that there are contentions among you.
En effet, mes frères, j'ai été informé, par les gens de la maison de Chloé, qu'il y a des disputes parmi vous.
12 Now I say this because each of you is saying: “Certainly, I am of Paul;” “But I am of Apollo;” “Truly, I am of Cephas;” as well as: “I am of Christ.”
Voici ce que je veux dire: c'est que, parmi vous, chacun parle ainsi: Moi, je suis disciple de Paul; — et moi, d'Apollos; — et moi, de Céphas; — et moi, de Christ. —
13 Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
Christ est-il divisé? Paul a-t-il été crucifié pour vous, ou avez-vous été baptisés au nom de Paul?
14 I give thanks to God that I have baptized none of you, except Crispus and Gaius,
Je rends grâces de ce que je n'ai baptisé aucun de vous, — sinon Crispus et Gaius —,
15 lest anyone say that you have been baptized in my name.
afin que personne ne puisse dire que vous avez été baptisés en mon nom.
16 And I also baptized the household of Stephanus. Other than these, I do not recall if I baptized any others.
J'ai baptisé aussi la famille de Stéphanas; à part ceux-là, je ne sache pas que j'aie baptisé quelqu'un d'autre.
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to evangelize: not through the wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ become empty.
En effet, ce n'est pas pour baptiser que Christ m'a envoyé, mais c'est pour annoncer l'Évangile, et cela sans recourir à la sagesse des discours, afin que la croix du Christ ne soit pas rendue vaine.
18 For the Word of the Cross is certainly foolishness to those who are perishing. But to those who have been saved, that is, to us, it is the power of God.
Car la prédication de la croix est une folie pour ceux qui périssent; mais, pour nous qui sommes sauvés, elle est la puissance de Dieu.
19 For it has been written: “I will perish the wisdom of the wise, and I will reject the discernment of the prudent.”
Aussi est-il écrit: «Je détruirai la sagesse des sages, et j'anéantirai l'intelligence des intelligents.»
20 Where are the wise? Where are the scribes? Where are the truth-seekers of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of this world into foolishness? (aiōn g165)
Où est le sage? Où est le scribe? Où est le disputeur de ce siècle? Dieu n'a-t-il pas convaincu de folie la sagesse du monde? (aiōn g165)
21 For the world did not know God through wisdom, and so, in the wisdom of God, it pleased God to accomplish the salvation of believers, through the foolishness of our preaching.
Car, puisque le monde, avec sa sagesse, n'a pas connu Dieu dans la sagesse de Dieu, il a plu à Dieu de sauver ceux qui croient, par la folie de notre prédication.
22 For the Jews ask for signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom.
En effet, tandis que les Juifs demandent des miracles et que les Grecs cherchent la sagesse,
23 But we are preaching Christ crucified. Certainly, to the Jews, this is a scandal, and to the Gentiles, this is foolishness.
nous, nous prêchons Christ crucifié, scandale pour les Juifs, folie pour les Païens;
24 But to those who have been called, Jews as well as Greeks, the Christ is the virtue of God and the wisdom of God.
mais, pour ceux qui sont appelés, Juifs comme Grecs, Christ est la puissance de Dieu, la sagesse de Dieu!
25 For what is foolishness to God is considered wise by men, and that which is weakness to God is considered strong by men.
Car la folie de Dieu est plus sage que les hommes, et la faiblesse de Dieu plus forte que les hommes.
26 So take care of your vocation, brothers. For not many are wise according to the flesh, not many are powerful, not many are noble.
Considérez, frères, que, parmi vous qui avez été appelés, il n'y a ni beaucoup de sages selon la chair, ni beaucoup de puissants, ni beaucoup de nobles.
27 But God has chosen the foolish of the world, so that he may confound the wise. And God has chosen the weak of the world, so that he may confound the strong.
Mais Dieu a choisi les choses folles du monde pour confondre les sages; Dieu a choisi les choses faibles du monde pour confondre les fortes;
28 And God has chosen the ignoble and contemptible of the world, those who are nothing, so that he may reduce to nothing those who are something.
Dieu a choisi les choses viles du monde et les plus méprisées, celles qui ne sont point, pour réduire à néant celles qui sont,
29 So then, nothing that is of the flesh should glory in his sight.
afin que personne ne se glorifie devant Dieu.
30 But you are of him in Christ Jesus, who was made by God to be our wisdom and justice and sanctification and redemption.
Or, c'est grâce à lui que vous appartenez à Jésus-Christ qui a été fait pour nous, de la part de Dieu, sagesse, et justice, et sanctification, et rédemption,
31 And so, in the same way, it was written: “Whoever glories, should glory in the Lord.”
— afin, comme le dit l'Écriture, «que celui qui se glorifie, se glorifie dans le Seigneur.»
