Sophonias 2
1 Be you gathered and closely joined together, O unchastened nation;
Samla dykk og sansa dykk, du folk som ikkje blygjest!
2 before you become as the flower that passes away, before the anger of the Lord come upon you, before the day of the wrath of the Lord come upon you.
fyrr rådgjerdi føder - som agner fer dagen fram - fyrr Herrens brennande vreide kjem yver dykk, fyrr Herrens vreide-dag kjem yver dykk.
3 Seek you the Lord, all you meek of the earth; do judgement, and seek justice, and answer accordingly; that you may be hid in the day of the wrath of the Lord.
Søk Herren alle de audmjuke i landet, som held lovi hans! Søk rettferd, søk audmykt! Kann henda vert de då livde på Herrens vreide-dag!
4 For Gaza shall be utterly spoiled, and Ascalon shall be destroyed; and Azotus shall be cast forth at noon-day, and Accaron shall be rooted up.
For Gaza skal verta folketomt, Askalon til ei øydemark, Asdod-folket skal jagast ut midt på ljose dagen og Ekron rykkjast upp med rot.
5 Woe to them that dwell on the border of the sea, neighbours of the Cretans! the word of the Lord is against you, O Chanaan, land of the Philistines, and I will destroy you out of [your] dwelling-place.
Usæle dei som bur i bygdi utmed havet, kretarfolket. Herrens ord er yver deg, Kana’an, Filistarland. Ja, eg vil leggja deg i øyde, so ingen skal bu i deg.
6 And Crete shall be a pasture of flocks, and a fold of sheep.
Og bygdi utmed havet skal liggja til hamnegang med gjætarbrunnar og sauegardar.
7 And the sea cost shall be for the remnant of the house of Juda; they shall pasture upon them in the houses of Ascalon; they shall rest in the evening because of the children of Juda; for the Lord their God has visited them, and he will turn away their captivity.
Og leivningen av Judas hus skal få bygdi til sin lut, der skal dei hava beite. I Askalon-husi skal dei liggja um kvelden, når Herren, deira Gud, ser til deim, og vender deira lagnad.
8 I have heard the revilings of Moab, and the insults of the children of Ammon, wherewith they have reviled my people, and magnified themselves against my coasts.
Eg hev høyrt svivyrdingi frå Moab og spottordi frå Ammons-borni, som dei hev svivyrdt mitt folk med og briska seg mot landet deira.
9 Therefore, [as] I live, says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Moab shall be as Sodoma, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrha; and Damascus [shall be] left as a heap of the threshing floor, and desolate for ever: and the remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the remnant of my nations shall inherit them.
Difor, so visst som eg lever, segjer Herren, allhers drott, Israels Gud, skal det ganga Moab som Sodoma og Ammons-sønerne som Gomorra: Dei skal verta til netlemark, saltgruva og øydemark til æveleg tid. Resten av folket mitt skal plundra deim, leivningen av lyden min skal få deim til eiga.
10 This is their punishment in return for their haughtiness, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the Lord Almighty.
Dette skal henda deim for deira storlæte, for di dei svivyrde og briska seg mot folket åt Herren, allhers drott.
11 The Lord shall appear against them, and shall utterly destroy all the gods of the nations of the earth; and they shall worship him every one from his place, [even] all the islands of the nations.
Fæl skal Herren vera mot deim, for han skal øyda ut alle gudarne på jordi. Alle heidninglandi skal kasta seg ned for honom, kvar frå sin stad.
12 You Ethiopians also are the slain of my sword.
De og, ætiopar - gjenomstungne av sverdet mitt er dei.
13 And he shall stretch forth his hand against the north and destroy the Assyrian, and make Nineve a dry wilderness, [even] as a desert.
Han retter ut handi mot nord og tyner Assur og gjer Nineve til ei øydemark, til turre heidi.
14 And flocks, and all the wild beasts of the land, and chameleons shall feed in the midst thereof: and hedgehogs shall lodge in the ceilings thereof; and wild beasts shall cry in the breaches thereof, and ravens in her porches, whereas her loftiness was [as] as cedar.
Hjorder skal lægra seg der inne, alle slag villdyr i flokk. Pelikan og bustyvel skal natta på sulehovudi der, fuglelåt høyrast i vindaugo, øyda bu på dørstokken, for cederpanelet hev han rive.
Dette er den jublande byen, som sat so trygt og sagde i sitt hjarta: «Eg og ingen annan!» Kor aud han er vorten, eit læger for villdyr! Kvar den som framum fer, blistrar og vinkar med handi.
