< Psalms 72 >

1 For Solomon. O God, give your judgement to the king, and your righteousness to the king's son;
A psalm of Solomon. Give the king your righteous decrees, God, your righteousness to the king's son.
2 [that he may] judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with judgement.
May he judge your people with righteousness and your poor with justice.
3 Let the mountains and the hills raise peace to your people:
May the mountains produce peace for the people; may the hills produce righteousness.
4 he shall judge the poor of the people in righteousness, and save the children of the needy; and shall bring low the false accuser.
May he judge the poor of the people; may he save the children of the needy and break in pieces the oppressor.
5 And he shall continue as long as the sun, and before the moon for ever.
May they honor you while the sun endures, and as long as the moon lasts throughout all generations.
6 He shall come down as rain upon a fleece; and as drops falling upon the earth.
May he come down like rain on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth.
7 In his days shall righteousness spring up; and abundance of peace till the moon be removed.
May the righteous flourish in his days, and may there be an abundance of peace till the moon is no more.
8 And he shall have dominion from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth.
May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
9 The Ethiopians shall fall down before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.
May those who live in the wilderness bow down before him; may his enemies lick the dust.
10 The kings of Tharsis, and the isles, shall bring presents: the kings of the Arabians and Saba shall offer gifts.
May the kings of Tarshish and of the islands render tribute; may the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts.
11 And all kings shall worship him; all the Gentiles shall serve him.
Indeed, may all kings fall down before him; may all nations serve him.
12 For he has delivered the poor from the oppressor; and the needy who had no helper.
For he helps the needy person who cries out and the poor person who has no other helper.
13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall deliver the souls of the needy.
He has pity on the poor and needy, and he saves the lives of needy people.
14 He shall redeem their souls from usury and injustice: and their name [shall be] precious before him.
He redeems their lives from oppression and violence, and their blood is precious in his sight.
15 And he shall live, and there shall be given him of the gold of Arabia: and [men] shall pray for him continually; [and] all the day shall they praise him.
May he live! May the gold of Sheba be given to him. May people always pray for him; may God bless him all day long.
16 There shall be an establishment on the earth on the tops of the mountains: the fruit thereof shall be exalted above Libanus, and they of the city shall flourish as grass of the earth.
May there be abundance of grain in the land; on the mountaintops may their crops wave. May the fruit of it be like Lebanon; may the people flourish in the cities like the grass of the field.
17 Let his name be blessed for ever: his name shall endure longer than the sun: and all the tribes of the earth shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.
May his name endure forever; may his name continue as long as the sun; may people be blessed in him; may all nations call him blessed.
18 Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, who alone does wonders.
May Yahweh God, the God of Israel, be blessed, who alone does wonderful things.
19 And blessed is his glorious name for ever, even for ever and ever: and all the earth shall be filled with his glory. So be it, so be it.
May his glorious name be blessed forever, and may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen.
