Psalms 44
1 For the end, a Psalm for instruction, for the sons of Core. O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us, the work which you wrought in their days, in the days of old.
Pour le chef musicien. Par les fils de Korah. Un psaume contemplatif. Nous avons entendu de nos oreilles, Dieu; nos pères nous ont dit quel travail tu as fait de leur temps, dans les jours d'autrefois.
2 Your hand utterly destroyed the heathen, and you did plant them: you did afflict the nations, and cast them out.
Tu as chassé les nations avec ta main, mais vous les avez plantés. Tu as affligé les peuples, mais vous les diffusez à l'étranger.
3 For they inherited not the land by their [own] sword, and their [own] arm did not deliver them; but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your countenance, because you were well pleased in them.
Car ce n'est pas par leur propre épée qu'ils ont pris possession du pays, leur propre bras ne les a pas sauvés non plus; mais ta main droite, ton bras, et la lumière de ton visage, parce que vous leur étiez favorable.
4 You are indeed my King and my God, who command deliverances for Jacob.
Dieu, tu es mon Roi. Victoires de commandement pour Jacob!
5 In you will we push down our enemies, and in your name will we bring to nothing them that rise up against us.
Par toi, nous écraserons nos adversaires. Par ton nom, nous écraserons ceux qui se dressent contre nous.
6 For I will not trust in my bow, and my sword shall not save me.
Car je ne me fierai pas à mon arc, mon épée ne me sauvera pas non plus.
7 For you have saved us from them that afflicted us, and have put to shame them that hated us.
Mais tu nous as sauvés de nos adversaires, et ont fait honte à ceux qui nous haïssent.
8 In God will we make our boast all the day, and to your name will we give thanks for ever. (Pause)
C'est en Dieu que nous nous sommes glorifiés tout au long du jour. Nous rendrons grâce à ton nom pour toujours. (Selah)
9 But now you have cast off, and put us to shame; and you will not go forth with our hosts.
Mais maintenant tu nous as rejetés, et tu nous as déshonorés, et ne sortez pas avec nos armées.
10 You have turned us back before our enemies; and they that hated us spoiled for themselves.
Tu nous fais reculer devant l'adversaire. Ceux qui nous haïssent prennent le pillage pour eux-mêmes.
11 You made us as sheep for meat; and you scattered us amongst the nations.
Tu nous as transformés en moutons pour les manger, et nous ont dispersés parmi les nations.
12 You have sold your people without price, and there was no profit by their exchange.
Vous vendez votre peuple pour rien, et n'ont rien gagné de leur vente.
13 You have made us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision them that are round about us.
Tu fais de nous un objet d'opprobre pour nos voisins, une moquerie et une dérision pour ceux qui nous entourent.
14 You have made us a proverb amongst the Gentiles, a shaking of the head amongst the nations.
Tu fais de nous un sujet de discorde parmi les nations, une secousse de la tête parmi les peuples.
15 All the day my shame is before me, and the confusion of my face has covered me,
Tout le jour, mon déshonneur est devant moi, et la honte couvre mon visage,
16 because of the voice of the slanderer and reviler; because of the enemy and avenger.
à la raillerie de celui qui fait des reproches et abuse verbalement, à cause de l'ennemi et du vengeur.
17 All these things are come upon us: but we have not forgotten you, neither have we dealt unrighteously in your covenant.
Tout cela nous est tombé dessus, mais nous ne vous avons pas oublié. Nous n'avons pas failli à votre alliance.
18 And our heart has not gone back; but you have turned aside our paths from your way.
Notre cœur ne s'est pas détourné, nos pas ne se sont pas écartés de ton chemin,
19 For you have laid us low in a place of affliction, and the shadow of death has covered us.
bien que tu nous aies écrasés dans le repaire des chacals, et nous a couverts de l'ombre de la mort.
20 If we have forgotten the name of our God, and if we have spread out our hands to a strange god; shall not God search these things out?
Si nous avons oublié le nom de notre Dieu, ou de tendre nos mains vers un dieu étranger,
21 for he knows the secrets of the heart.
Dieu ne va pas chercher ça? Car il connaît les secrets du cœur.
22 For, for your sake we are killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for slaughter.
Oui, à cause de toi, on nous tue tout le jour. Nous sommes considérés comme des moutons pour l'abattage.
23 Awake, therefore sleep you, O Lord? arise, and do not cast [us] off for ever.
Réveillez-vous! Pourquoi dors-tu, Seigneur? Debout! Ne nous rejette pas pour toujours.
24 Therefore turn you your face away, [and] forget our poverty and our affliction?
Pourquoi cachez-vous votre visage, et oublier notre affliction et notre oppression?
25 For our soul has been brought down to the dust; our belly has cleaved to the earth.
Car notre âme est courbée vers la poussière. Notre corps s'accroche à la terre.
26 Arise, O Lord, help us, and redeem us for your name's sake.
Levez-vous pour nous aider. Rachetez-nous au nom de votre bonté.
