< Psalms 17 >
1 A prayer of David. Listen, O Lord of my righteousness, attend to my petition; give ear to my prayer not [uttered] with deceitful lips.
A Prayer of David. Lord, listen to my justice, attend to my supplication. Pay attention to my prayer, which is not from deceitful lips.
2 Let my judgement come forth from your presence; let mine eyes behold righteousness.
Let my judgment proceed from your presence. Let your eyes behold fairness.
3 You has proved mine heart; you have visited [me] by night; you have tried me as with fire, and unrighteousness has not been found in me: [I am purposed] that my mouth shall not speak [amiss].
You have tested my heart and visited it by night. You have examined me by fire, and iniquity has not been found in me.
4 As for the works of men, by the words of your lips I have guarded [myself from] hard ways.
Therefore, may my mouth not speak the works of men. I have kept to difficult ways because of the words of your lips.
5 Direct my steps in your paths, that my steps slip not.
Perfect my steps in your paths, so that my footsteps may not be disturbed.
6 I have cried, for you heard me, O God: incline your ear to me, and listen to my words.
I have cried out because you, O God, have listened to me. Incline your ear to me and heed my words.
7 Show the marvels of your mercies, you that save them that hope in you.
Make your mercies wonderful, for you save those who hope in you.
8 Keep me as the apple of the eye from those that resist your right hand: you shall screen me by the covering of your wings,
From those who resist your right hand, preserve me like the pupil of your eye. Protect me under the shadow of your wings,
9 from the face of the ungodly that have afflicted me: mine enemies have compassed about my soul.
from the face of the impious who have afflicted me. My enemies have surrounded my soul.
10 They have enclosed [themselves with] their own fat: their mouth has spoken pride.
They have concealed their fatness; their mouth has been speaking arrogantly.
11 They have now cast me out and compassed me round about: they have set their eyes [so as] to bow them down to the ground.
They have cast me out, and now they have surrounded me. They have cast their eyes down to the earth.
12 They laid wait for me as a lion ready for prey, and like a lion's whelp dwelling in secret [places].
They have taken me, like a lion ready for the prey, and like a young lion dwelling in hiding.
13 Arise, O Lord, prevent them, and cast them down: deliver my soul from the ungodly: [draw] your sword,
Rise up, O Lord, arrive before him and displace him. Deliver my soul from the impious one: your spear from the enemies of your hand.
14 because of the enemies of your hand: O Lord, destroy them from the earth; scatter them in their life, though their belly has been filled with your hidden [treasures]: they have been satisfied with uncleanness, and have left the remnant [of their possessions] to their babes.
Lord, divide them from the few of the earth in their life. Their gut has been filled from your hidden stores. They have been filled with sons, and they have bequeathed to their little ones the remainder.
15 But I shall appear in righteousness before your face: I shall be satisfied when your glory appears.
But as for me, I will appear before your sight in justice. I will be satisfied when your glory appears.
