Proverbs 1
1 The Proverbs of Solomon son of David, who reigned in Israel;
De spreuken van Salomo, den zoon van David, den koning van Israel,
2 to know wisdom and instruction, and to perceive words of understanding;
Om wijsheid en tucht te weten; om te verstaan redenen des verstands;
3 to receive also hard saying, and to understand true justice, and [how] to direct judgement;
Om aan te nemen onderwijs van goed verstand, gerechtigheid, en recht, en billijkheden;
4 that he might give subtlety to the simple, and to the young man discernment and understanding.
Om den slechten kloekzinnigheid te geven, den jongeling wetenschap en bedachtzaamheid.
5 For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and man of understanding will gain direction;
Die wijs is, zal horen, en zal in lere toenemen; en die verstandig is, zal wijzen raad bekomen;
6 and will understand a parable, and a dark speech; the saying of the wise also, and riddles.
Om te verstaan een spreuk en de uitlegging, de woorden der wijzen en hun raadselen.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and [there is] good understanding to all that practise it: and piety towards God is the beginning of discernment; but the ungodly will set at nothing wisdom and instruction.
De vrees des HEEREN is het beginsel der wetenschap; de dwazen verachten wijsheid en tucht.
8 Hear, [my] son, the instruction of your father, and reject not the rules of your mother.
Mijn zoon! hoor de tucht uws vaders, en verlaat de leer uwer moeder niet;
9 For you shall receive for your head a crown of graces, and a chain of gold round your neck.
Want zij zullen uw hoofd een aangenaam toevoegsel zijn, en ketenen aan uw hals.
10 [My] son, let not ungodly men lead you astray, neither consent you [to them].
Mijn zoon! indien de zondaars u aanlokken, bewillig niet;
11 If they should exhort you, saying, Come with us, partake in blood, and let us unjustly hide the just man in the earth:
Indien zij zeggen: Ga met ons, laat ons loeren op bloed, ons versteken tegen den onschuldige, zonder oorzaak;
12 and let us swallow him alive, as Hades [would], and remove the memorial of him from the earth: (Sheol h7585)
Laat ons hen levend verslinden, als het graf; ja, geheel en al, gelijk die in den kuil nederdalen; (Sheol h7585)
13 let us seize on his valuable property, and let us fill our houses with spoils:
Alle kostelijk goed zullen wij vinden, onze huizen zullen wij met roof vullen.
14 but do you cast in your lot with us, and let us all provide a common purse, and let us have one pouch:
Gij zult uw lot midden onder ons werpen; wij zullen allen een buidel hebben.
15 go not in the way with them, but turn aside your foot from their paths:
Mijn zoon! wandel niet met hen op den weg; weer uw voet van hun pad.
16 [For their feet run to do evil, and are swift to shed blood. ]
Want hun voeten lopen ten boze; en zij haasten zich om bloed te storten.
17 for nets are not without cause spread for birds.
Zekerlijk, het net wordt tevergeefs gespreid voor de ogen van allerlei gevogelte;
18 For they that are concerned in murder store up evils for themselves; and the overthrow of transgressors is evil.
En deze loeren op hun eigen bloed, en versteken zich tegen hun zielen.
19 These are the ways of all that perform lawless deeds; for by ungodliness they destroy their own life.
Zo zijn de paden van een iegelijk, die gierigheid pleegt; zij zal de ziel van haar meester vangen.
20 Wisdom sings aloud in passages, and in the broad places speaks boldly.
De opperste Wijsheid roept overluid daarbuiten; Zij verheft Haar stem op de straten.
21 And she makes proclamation on the top of the walls, and sits by the gates of princes; and at the gates of the city boldly says,
Zij roept in het voorste der woelingen; aan de deuren der poorten spreekt Zij Haar redenen in de stad;
22 So long as the simple cleave to justice, they shall not be ashamed: but the foolish being lovers of haughtiness, having become ungodly have hated knowledge, and are become subject to reproofs.
Gij slechten! hoe lang zult gij de slechtigheid beminnen, en de spotters voor zich de spotternij begeren, en de zotten wetenschap haten?
23 Behold, I will bring forth to you the utterance of my breath, and I will instruct you in my speech.
Keert u tot Mijn bestraffing; ziet, Ik zal Mijn Geest ulieden overvloediglijk uitstorten; Ik zal Mijn woorden u bekend maken.
24 Since I called, and you did not listen; and I spoke at length, and you gave no heed;
Dewijl Ik geroepen heb, en gijlieden geweigerd hebt; Mijn hand uitgestrekt heb, en er niemand was, die opmerkte;
25 but you set at nothing my counsels, and disregarded my reproofs;
En gij al Mijn raad verworpen, en Mijn bestraffing niet gewild hebt;
26 therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against [you] when ruin comes upon you:
Zo zal Ik ook in ulieder verderf lachen; Ik zal spotten, wanneer uw vreze komt.
27 yes when dismay suddenly comes upon you, and [your] overthrow shall arrive like a tempest; and when tribulation and distress shall come upon you, or when ruin shall come upon you.
Wanneer uw vreze komt gelijk een verwoesting, en uw verderf aankomt als een wervelwind; wanneer u benauwdheid en angst overkomt;
28 For it shall be that when you call upon me, I will not listen to you: wicked men shall seek me, but shall not find [me].
Dan zullen zij tot Mij roepen, maar Ik zal niet antwoorden; zij zullen Mij vroeg zoeken, maar zullen Mij niet vinden;
29 For they hated wisdom, and did not choose the word of the Lord:
Daarom, dat zij de wetenschap gehaat hebben, en de vreze des HEEREN niet hebben verkoren.
30 neither would they attend to my counsels, but derided my reproofs.
Zij hebben in Mijn raad niet bewilligd; al Mijn bestraffingen hebben zij versmaad;
31 Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and shall be filled with their own ungodliness.
Zo zullen zij eten van de vrucht van hun weg, en zich verzadigen met hun raadslagen.
32 For because they wronged the simple, they shall be slain; and an inquisition shall ruin the ungodly.
Want de afkering der slechten zal hen doden, en de voorspoed der zotten zal hen verderven.
33 But he that hearkens to me shall dwell in confidence, and shall rest securely from all evil.
Maar die naar Mij hoort, zal zeker wonen, en hij zal gerust zijn van de vreze des kwaads.
