Proverbs 4
1 Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
Słuchajcie, synowie, pouczenia ojca i zważajcie na to, abyście poznali roztropność;
2 For I give you a good gift; forsake you not my law.
Bo daję wam dobrą naukę, nie porzucajcie mego prawa.
3 For I also was a son obedient to [my] father, and loved in the sight of [my] mother:
Byłem bowiem synem mego ojca i [miłym] jedynakiem w oczach mojej matki.
4 who spoke and instructed me, [saying], Let our speech be fixed in your heart, keep [our] commandments, forget them not:
On mnie uczył, mówiąc mi: Niech twoje serce zachowa moje słowa; strzeż moich przykazań, a będziesz żył.
5 and do not neglect the speech of my mouth.
Zdobywaj mądrość, zdobywaj roztropność; nie zapominaj i nie odstępuj od słów moich ust.
6 And forsake it not, and it shall cleave to you: love it, and it shall keep you.
Nie opuszczaj jej, a będzie cię strzegła; ukochaj ją, a zachowa cię.
Podstawą [wszystkiego jest] mądrość; zdobywaj mądrość i za cały swój majątek zdobywaj roztropność.
8 Secure it, and it shall exalt you: honour it, that it may embrace you;
Wywyższaj ją, a ona wywyższy ciebie, rozsławi cię, gdy ją przyjmiesz.
9 that it may give to your head a crown of graces, and may cover you with a crown of delight.
Wdzięczną ozdobę włoży ci na głowę, obdarzy cię koroną chwały.
10 Hear, [my] son, and receive my words; and the years of your life shall be increased, that the resources of your life may be many.
Słuchaj, synu mój, i przyjmij moje słowa, a pomnożą się lata twojego życia.
11 For I teach you the ways of wisdom; and I cause you to go in right paths.
Nauczyłem cię drogi mądrości, po ścieżkach prawości cię wiodłem;
12 For when you go, your steps shall not be straitened; and when you run, you shall not be distressed.
Gdy [nimi] pójdziesz, twoje kroki nie będą skrępowane; a jeśli pobiegniesz, nie potkniesz się.
13 Take hold of my instruction; let it not go, —but keep it for yourself for your life.
Trzymaj się karności, nie opuszczaj [jej], strzeż jej, bo ona jest twoim życiem.
14 Go not in the ways of the ungodly, neither covet the ways of transgressors.
Nie chodź ścieżką niegodziwych i nie wchodź na drogę złych ludzi.
15 In whatever place they shall pitch their camp, go not there; but turn from them, and pass away.
Unikaj jej, nie chodź po niej; odwróć się od niej i omiń [ją];
16 For they can’t sleep, unless they have done evil: their sleep is taken away, and they rest not.
Bo [oni] nie zasną, dopóki nie zrobią czegoś złego; sen ich odleci, aż przywiodą [kogoś] do upadku;
17 For these live upon the bread of ungodliness, and are drunken with wine of transgression.
Jedzą bowiem chleb nieprawości i piją wino przemocy.
18 But the ways of the righteous shine like light; they go on and shine, until the day be fully come.
Ale ścieżka sprawiedliwych [jest] jak jasne światło, które świeci coraz jaśniej aż do dnia doskonałego.
19 But the ways of the ungodly are dark; they know not how they stumble.
Droga niegodziwych [jest] jak ciemność; nie wiedzą, o co mogą się potknąć.
20 [My] son, attend to my speech; and apply your ear to my words:
Synu mój, zważaj na moje słowa; ku moim naukom nakłoń swe ucho.
21 that your fountains may not fail you; keep them in [your] heart.
Niech nie schodzą ci z oczu, zachowaj je w głębi twego serca.
22 For they are life to those that find them, and health to all [their] flesh.
[Są] bowiem życiem dla tych, którzy je znajdują, i lekarstwem dla całego ich ciała.
23 Keep your heart with the utmost care; for out of these are the issues of life.
Strzeż twego serca z całą pilnością, bo z niego tryska życie.
24 Remove from you a froward mouth, and put far away from you unjust lips.
Odsuń od siebie przewrotność ust, oddal od siebie złośliwe wargi.
25 Let your eyes look right on, and let your eyelids assent [to] just [things].
Niech twoje oczy patrzą na wprost, a twoje powieki niech będą zwrócone przed siebie.
26 Make straight paths for your feet, and order your ways aright.
Uważaj na ścieżkę twoich nóg, aby wszystkie twoje drogi były pewne.
27 Turn not aside to the right hand nor to the left, but turn away your foot from an evil way.
Nie zbaczaj ani na prawo, ani na lewo; odwróć twoją nogę od zła.
