Proverbs 24
1 [My] son, envy not bad men, nor desire to be with them.
No tengas envidia de los hombres malvados; ni ansia de estar con ellos;
2 For their heart meditates falsehoods, and their lips speak mischiefs.
porque su corazón maquina rapiñas, y sus labios hablan para dañar.
3 A house is built by wisdom, and is set up by understanding.
Con la sabiduría se edifica una casa, y con la prudencia se afirma.
4 By discretion the chambers are filled with all precious and excellent wealth.
Con la inteligencia se hinchen sus cámaras de todo lo más precioso y deseable.
5 A wise man is better than a strong man; and a man who has prudence than a large estate.
El hombre sabio está lleno de fuerza; el que tiene sabiduría aumenta su poder.
6 War is carried on with generalship, and aid is supplied to the heart of a counsellor.
Pues con prudentes medidas puedes ganar la guerra, y donde hay muchos consejeros allí está la victoria.
7 Wisdom and good understanding are in the gates of the wise: the wise turn not aside from the mouth of the Lord,
Cosa demasiado alta es para el necio la sabiduría; no abrirá él en el foro su boca.
8 but deliberate in council. Death befalls uninstructed [men].
Quien medita cómo hacer daño será llamado intrigante.
9 The fools also dies in sins; and uncleanness [attaches] to a pestilent man.
El afán del insensato consiste en pecar, y abominable para los hombres es el maldiciente.
10 He shall be defiled in the evil day, and in the day of affliction, until he be utterly consumed.
Si desfalleces en el día de la prueba, tu fortaleza es poca cosa.
11 Deliver them that are led away to death, and redeem them that are appointed to be slain; spare not [your help].
Libra a los que son llevados a la muerte; a los que andan vacilando al degolladero, sálvalos.
12 But if you should say, I know not this man; know that the Lord knows the hearts of all; and he that formed breath for all, he knows all things, who renders to every man according to his works.
Si dijeres: “¿Cómo saberlo?” ¿Acaso no lo ve Aquel que pesa los corazones? Bien lo sabe Aquel que vela sobre tu vida; Él retribuirá a cada cual según sus obras.
13 [My] son, eat honey, for the honeycomb is good, that your throat may be sweetened.
Come, hijo mío, miel, porque es buena, y el panal, que es dulce para tu paladar.
14 Thus shall you perceive wisdom in your soul: for if you find it, your end shall be good, and hope shall not fail you.
Tal será para tu alma la sabiduría; si la hallares, el porvenir será tuyo, y tu esperanza no será frustrada.
15 Bring not an ungodly man into the dwelling of the righteous: neither be deceived by the feeding of the belly.
No pongas, malvado, asechanzas a la morada del justo, ni devastes el lugar de su reposo.
16 For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise [again]: but the ungodly shall be without strength in troubles.
El justo se levanta, aunque caiga siete veces, los impíos, empero, se pierden en el mal.
17 If your enemy should fall, rejoice not over him, neither be elated at his overthrow.
No te goces en la caída de tu enemigo; si sucumbe no se alegre tu corazón,
18 For the Lord will see [it], and it will not please him, and he will turn away his wrath from him.
no sea que al verlo Yahvé se ofenda y aparte de sobre él su enojo.
19 Rejoice not in evil-doers, neither be envious of sinners.
No te irrites a causa de los impíos, ni envidies a los malhechores.
20 For the evil man shall have no posterity: and the light of the wicked shall be put out.
Porque no hay porvenir para el malo; la lámpara de los impíos se apagará.
21 [My] son, fear God and the king; and do not disobey either of them.
Hijo mío, teme a Yahvé y al rey, y no te asocies con los revoltosos;
22 For they will suddenly punish the ungodly, and who can know the vengeance [inflicted] by both?
porque de repente vendrá sobre ellos su ruina, y la desventura de ambos, ¿quién la conoce?
23 And this thing I say to you that are wise [for you] to learn: It is not good to have respect of persons in judgement.
También estas son sentencias de los sabios: Es cosa mala hacer acepción de personas en el juicio.
24 He that says of the ungodly, He is righteous, shall be cursed by peoples, and hateful amongst the nations.
Quien dice al delincuente: “Tú tienes razón”, será maldito del pueblo y detestado de la gente.
25 But they that reprove [him] shall appear more excellent, and blessing shall come upon them;
Y aquellos que lo condenan, serán alabados, y sobre ellos vienen ricas bendiciones.
26 and [men] will kiss lips that answer well.
Los labios besa quien responde palabras rectas.
27 Prepare your works for [your] going forth, and prepare yourself for the field; and come after me, and you shall rebuild your house.
Haz con esmero tu trabajo de afuera, aplicándolo a tu campo, y luego podrás edificar tu casa.
28 Be not a false witness against your [fellow] citizen, neither exaggerate with your lips.
No seas de ligero testigo contra tu prójimo; ¿quieres acaso engañarlo con tus labios?
29 Say not, As he has treated me, so will I treat him, and I will avenge myself on him for that wherein he has injured me.
No digas: “Como él me trató, así haré con él, le daré el pago según sus obras.”
30 A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard.
Pasé junto al campo del perezoso, y junto a la viña del insensato;
31 If you let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down.
y he aquí que espinas brotaban por todas partes, ortigas cubrían su superficie y la cerca de piedra estaba destruida.
32 Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction.
Lo vi y me puse a reflexionar; lo miré y aprendí esta lección:
33 [The sluggard says, ]I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across [my] breast.
Un poco dormir, un poco dormitar, cruzar un poco las manos para descansar,
34 But if you do this, your poverty will come speedily; and your lack like a swift courier.
y sobrevendrá cual salteador la miseria, y como hombre armado, la necesidad.
