Nehemiah 13
1 In that day they read in the book of Moses in the ears of the people; and it was found written in it, that the Ammonites and Moabites should not enter into the congregation of God for ever;
Naquele dia se leu no livro de Moisés perante os ouvidos do povo, e foi achado nele escrito que os amonitas e os moabitas eternamente não podiam entrar na congregação de Deus;
2 because they met not the children of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them: but our God turned the curse into a blessing.
Porque não saíram ao encontro dos filhos de Israel com pão e água; em vez disso, contrataram a Balaão contra eles, para os amaldiçoar; ainda que nosso Deus tornou a maldição em bênção.
3 And it came to pass, when they heard the law, that they were separated, [even] every alien in Israel.
Sucedeu, pois, que, quando eles ouviram esta lei, separaram de Israel toda mistura.
4 And before this time Eliasib the priest lived in the treasury of the house of our God, connected with Tobias;
E antes disto, Eliasibe, o sacerdote, sendo superintendente da câmara da casa de nosso Deus, tinha se aparentado com Tobias,
5 and he made himself a great treasury, and there they were formerly in the habit of bestowing the offerings, and the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithe of the corn, and the wine, and the oil, the ordered portion of the Levites, and singers, and porters; and the first fruits of the priests.
E tinha lhe preparado uma câmara grande, na qual antes se guardavam as ofertas de alimentos, o incenso, os vasos, os dízimos de grão, de vinho e de azeite, que estava ordenado [dar] aos levitas, aos cantores, e aos porteiros; como também a oferta alçada para os sacerdotes.
6 But in all this [time] I was not in Jerusalem; for in the thirty-second year of Arthasastha king of Babylon I came to the king, and after a certain time I made my request of the king;
Porém enquanto tudo isto [acontecia], eu não estava em Jerusalém; porque no ano trinta e dois de Artaxerxes rei da Babilônia, eu vim ao rei; mas ao fim de [alguns] dias obtive permissão para me ausentar do rei.
7 and I came to Jerusalem, and I understood the mischief which Eliasib had done in the case of Tobias, in making for him a treasury in the court of the house of God.
E vim a Jerusalém, e entendi o mal que Eliasibe tinha feito por Tobias, preparando-lhe uma câmara nos pátios da casa de Deus.
8 And it appeared very evil to me: so I cast forth all the furniture of the house of Tobias from the treasury.
E isso me desagradou muito; por isso lancei todas as coisas da casa de Tobias para fora da câmara;
9 And I gave orders, and they purified the treasuries: and I restored there the vessels of the house of God, [and] the offerings, and the frankincense.
E mandei purificar as câmaras, e trouxe de volta os utensílios da casa de Deus, com as ofertas de alimento, e o incenso.
10 And I understood that the portion of the Levites had not been given: and they had fled every one to his field, the Levites and the singers doing the work.
Também entendi que as porções dos Levitas não estavam sendo dadas [a eles]; e que os levitas e cantores que faziam o serviço haviam fugido cada um para seu campo.
11 And I strove with the commanders, and said, Therefore has the house of God been abandoned? and I assembled them, and set them in their place.
Então repreendi aos oficiais, e disse: Por que a casa de Deus está abandonada? Porém eu os juntei, e os restaurei em seu posto.
12 And all Juda brought a tithe of the wheat and the wine and the oil into the treasuries,
Então todo Judá trouxe o dízimo do grão, do suco de uva e do azeite, aos depósitos.
13 to the charge of Selemia the priest, and Sadoc the scribe, and Phadaea of the Levites: and next to them [was] Anan the son of Zacchur, son of Matthanias; for they were accounted faithful: [it was] their office to distribute to their brethren.
E pus por tesoureiros sobre os depósitos ao sacerdote Selemias e ao escriba Zadoque, e dos Levitas, a Pedaías; e próximo a eles Hanã filho de Zacur, filho de Matanias; pois eram considerados fiéis, e [assim] foram encarregados de distribuírem a seus irmãos.
14 Remember me, O God, in this, and let not my kindness be forgotten which I have wrought in [regard to] the house of the Lord God.
Por isto, meu Deus, lembra-te de mim, ó Deus, e não risques minhas bondades que eu fiz na casa de meu Deus, e em seus serviços.
15 In those days I saw in Juda [men] treading wine presses on the sabbath, and carrying sheaves, and loading asses with both wine, and grapes, and figs, and every [kind of] burden, and bringing them into Jerusalem on the sabbath-day:
Naqueles dias vi em Judá [alguns] que pisavam nas presnas de uvas no sábado, e que traziam feixes, e carregavam asnos, como também vinho, uvas, figos, e todo tipo de carga, que traziam a Jerusalém no dia de sábado; e os adverti quanto ao dia em que vendiam alimentos.
16 and I testified in the day of their sale. Also their lived in it [men] bringing fish, and selling every [kind of] merchandise to the children of Juda and in Jerusalem on the sabbath.
Também tírios estavam nela que traziam peixe e toda mercadoria, e vendiam no sábado aos filhos de Judá, e em Jerusalém.
17 And I strove with the free children of Juda, and said to them, What [is] this evil thing which you do, and profane the sabbath-day?
Assim repreendi aos nobres de Judá, e disse-lhes: Que mal é este que fazeis, profanando o dia de sábado?
18 Did not your fathers thus, and our God brought upon them and upon us and upon this city all these evils? and do you bring additional wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath?
Por acaso não fizeram assim vossos pais, e nosso Deus trouxe todo este mal sobre nós e sobre esta cidade? Porém vós acrescentais ainda mais ira sobre Israel profanando o sábado.
19 And it came to pass, when the gates were set up in Jerusalem, before the sabbath, that I spoke, and they shut the gates; and I gave orders that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and I set [some] of my servants at the gates, that none should bring [in] burdens on the sabbath-day.
Sucedeu pois, que quando ia escurecendo às portas de Jerusalém antes do sábado, disse que eu mandei que se fechassem as portas, e mandei que não as abrissem até depois do sábado; e pus às portas alguns de meus servos, para que carga nenhuma entrasse no dia de sábado.
20 So all [the merchants] lodged, and carried on traffic without Jerusalem once or twice.
Assim os comerciantes e vendedores de toda mercadoria passaram a noite fora de Jerusalém uma ou duas vezes.
21 Then I testified against them, and said to them, Why do you lodge in front of the wall? if you do so again, I will stretch out my hand upon you. From that time they came not on the sabbath.
Por isso eu lhes adverti, dizendo: Por que vos passais a noite diante do muro? Se o fizerdes outra vez, agirei com violência contra vós. Desde então não vieram no sábado.
22 and I told the Levites who were purifying themselves, and came and kept the gates, that they should sanctify the sabbath-day. Remember me, O God, for these things, and spare me according to the abundance of your mercy.
Também disse aos levitas que se purificassem, e viessem a guardar as portas, para santificar o dia de sábado. Nisto também, meu Deus, lembra-te de mim, e perdoa-me segundo a grandeza de tua bondade.
23 And in those days I saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, [and] of Moab:
Vi também naqueles dias judeus que tinham se casado com mulheres de asdoditas, amonitas, e moabitas,
24 and their children spoke half in the language of Ashdod, and did not know how to speak in the Jewish language.
E seus filhos a metade falavam asdodita, e não sabiam falar judaico, mas sim a língua de outros povos.
25 And I strove with them and cursed them; and I struck some of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, [saying, ]You shall not give your daughters to their sons, and you shall not take of their daughters to your sons.
Por isso eu os repreendi, e os amaldiçoei, e espanquei [alguns] deles, e arranquei-lhes os cabelos, e os fiz jurar por Deus, dizendo: Não dareis vossas filhas a seus filhos, e não tomareis de suas filhas, nem para vossos filhos, nem para vós.
26 Did not Solomon king of Israel sin thus? though there was no king like him amongst many nations, and he was beloved of God, and God made him king over all Israel; yet strange women turned him aside.
Por acaso não pecou nisto Salomão, rei de Israel? Ainda que entre muitas nações não houve rei semelhante a ele, que era amado pelo seu Deus, e Deus o tinha posto por rei sobre todo Israel, [contudo] as mulheres estrangeiras o fizeram pecar.
27 So we will not listen to you to do all this evil, to break covenant with our God, —to marry strange wives.
E aceitaríamos ouvir de vós, para fazerdes todo este mal tão grande de transgredir contra nosso Deus, casando-se com mulheres estrangeiras?
28 and Elisub the high priest, [one] of the sons of Joada, [being] son-in-law of Sanaballat the Uranite, I chased him away from me.
E um dos filhos de Joiada, filho de Eliasibe o sumo sacerdote era genro de Sambalate o horonita; por isso eu o afugentei de mim.
29 Remember them, O God, for their [false] connection with the priesthood, and [the breaking] the covenant of the priesthood, and [for defiling] the Levites.
Lembra-te deles, meu Deus, pois contaminam o sacerdócio, como também o pacto do sacerdócio e dos levitas.
30 So I purged them from all foreign connection, and established courses for the priests and the Levites, [every] man according to his work.
Assim eu os limpei de todo estrangeiro, e ordenei as responsabilidades dos sacerdotes e dos levitas, cada um em sua obra;
31 And the offering of the wood-bearers [was] at certain set times, and in the [times of the] first fruits. Remember me, O our God, for good.
Como também para as ofertas de lenha em tempos determinados, e para as primícias. Lembra-te de mim, meu Deus, para o bem.
