< Leviticus 1 >

1 And the Lord called Moses again and spoke to him out of the tabernacle of witness, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, and you shall say to them,
Then the Lord called Moses and spoke to him from the tabernacle of the testimony, saying:
2 If [any] man of you shall bring gifts to the Lord, you shall bring your gifts of the cattle and of the oxen and of the sheep.
Speak to the sons of Israel, and you shall say to them: The man among you who will offer to the Lord a sacrifice from the cattle, that is, an offering of victims of oxen or sheep:
3 If his gift be a whole burnt offering, he shall bring an unblemished male of the herd to the door of the tabernacle of witness, he shall bring it as acceptable before the Lord.
if his offering will be a holocaust, as well as from the herd, he shall offer an immaculate male at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, to make himself pleasing to the Lord.
4 And he shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering as a thing acceptable for him, to make atonement for him.
And he shall place his hand on the head of the sacrifice, and so it shall be acceptable and effective, in its expiation.
5 And they shall kill the calf before the Lord; and the sons of Aaron the priests shall bring the blood, and they shall pour the blood round about on the altar, which [is] at the doors of the tabernacle of witness.
And he shall immolate the calf in the sight of the Lord. And the priests, the sons of Aaron, shall offer its blood, pouring it all around the altar, which is before the door of the tabernacle.
6 And having flayed the whole burnt offering, they shall divide it by its limbs.
And having pulled away the skin of the victim, they shall cut up the joints into pieces,
7 And the sons of Aaron the priests shall put fire on the altar, and shall pile wood on the fire.
and they shall toss fire under the altar, having arranged beforehand a stack of wood.
8 And the sons of Aaron the priests shall pile up the divided parts, and the head, and the fat on the wood on the fire, [the wood] which is on the altar.
And they shall lay the parts which are cut up in order upon it: namely, the head, and all the things that adjoin to the liver,
9 And the entrails and the feet they shall wash in water, and the priests shall put all on the altar: it is a burnt offering, a sacrifice, a smell of sweet savour to the Lord.
the intestines and feet having been washed with water. And the priest shall burn them on the altar as a holocaust and as a sweet odor to the Lord.
10 And if his gift [be] of the sheep to the Lord, or of the lambs, or of the kids for whole burnt offerings, he shall bring it a male without blemish.
But if the offering is from the flocks, a holocaust either of sheep or goats, he shall offer a male without blemish.
11 And he shall lay his hand on its head; and they shall kill it by the side of the altar, towards the north before the Lord, and the sons of Aaron the priests shall pour its blood on the altar round about.
And he shall immolate it at the side of the altar which looks out toward the north, in the sight of the Lord. Yet truly, the sons of Aaron shall pour its blood upon the altar all around.
12 And they shall divide it by its limbs, and its head and its fat, and the priests shall pile them up on the wood which is on the fire, on the altar.
And they shall divide the limbs, the head, and everything that adjoins to the liver. And they shall place them on the wood, under which the fire is to be thrown.
13 And they shall wash the entrails and the feet with water, and the priest shall bring all the [parts] and put them on the altar: it is a burnt offering, a sacrifice, a smell of sweet savour to the Lord.
Yet truly, the intestines and the feet they shall wash with water. And the priest, having offered everything, shall burn it upon the altar as a holocaust and as a most sweet odor to the Lord.
14 And if he bring his gift, a burnt offering to the Lord, of birds, then shall he bring his gift of doves or pigeons.
But if the oblation of a holocaust to the Lord is of birds, either of turtledoves, or young pigeons,
15 And the priest shall bring it to the altar, and shall wring off its head; and the priest shall put it on the altar, and shall wring out the blood at the bottom of the altar.
the priest shall offer it at the altar: and twisting back the neck with the head, and also rupturing the place of the wound, he shall make the blood run down over the edge of the altar.
16 And he shall take away the crop with the feathers, and shall cast it forth by the altar towards the east to the place of the ashes.
Yet truly, the craw of the throat and the feathers he shall cast near the altar at the eastern section, in the place where the ashes are usually poured out.
17 And he shall break it off from the wings and shall not separate it, and the priest shall put it on the altar on the wood which is on the fire: it is a burnt offering, a sacrifice, a sweet smelling savour to the Lord.
And he shall break its wing joints, but he shall neither cut, nor divide it with metal, and he shall burn it upon the altar, placing fire under the wood. It is a holocaust and an oblation of a most sweet odor to the Lord.
