Lamentations 3
1 ALEPH. I am the man that sees poverty, through the rod of his wrath upon me.
Io sono l'uomo che ha provato la miseria sotto la sferza della sua ira.
2 He has taken me, and led me away into darkness, and not [into] light.
Egli mi ha guidato, mi ha fatto camminare nelle tenebre e non nella luce.
3 Nay, against me has he turned his hand all the day.
Solo contro di me egli ha volto e rivolto la sua mano tutto il giorno.
4 He has made old my flesh and my skin; he has broken my bones.
Egli ha consumato la mia carne e la mia pelle, ha rotto le mie ossa.
5 BETH. He has built against me, and compassed my head, and brought travail [upon me].
Ha costruito sopra di me, mi ha circondato di veleno e di affanno.
6 He has set me in dark places, as them that have long been dead.
Mi ha fatto abitare in luoghi tenebrosi come i morti da lungo tempo.
7 He has builded against me, and I can’t come forth: he has made my brazen [chain] heavy.
Mi ha costruito un muro tutt'intorno, perché non potessi più uscire; ha reso pesanti le mie catene.
8 GIMEL. Yes, [though] I cry and shout, he shuts out my prayer.
Anche se grido e invoco aiuto, egli soffoca la mia preghiera.
9 DALETH. He has built up my ways, he has hedged my paths;
Ha sbarrato le mie vie con blocchi di pietra, ha ostruito i miei sentieri.
10 he has troubled me, [as] a she-bear lying in wait: he is to me [as] a lion in secret places.
Egli era per me un orso in agguato, un leone in luoghi nascosti.
11 He pursued [me] after I departed, and brought me to a stand: he has utterly ruined me.
Seminando di spine la mia via, mi ha lacerato, mi ha reso desolato.
12 HE. He has bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
Ha teso l'arco, mi ha posto come bersaglio alle sue saette.
13 He has caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.
Ha conficcato nei miei fianchi le frecce della sua faretra.
14 I became a laughing stock to all my people; and their song all the day.
Son diventato lo scherno di tutti i popoli, la loro canzone d'ogni giorno.
15 VAU. He has filled me with bitterness, he has drenched me with gall.
Mi ha saziato con erbe amare, mi ha dissetato con assenzio.
16 And he has dashed out my teeth with gravel, he has fed me with ashes.
Mi ha spezzato con la sabbia i denti, mi ha steso nella polvere.
17 He has also removed my soul from peace: I forgot prosperity.
Son rimasto lontano dalla pace, ho dimenticato il benessere.
18 Therefore my success has perished, and my hope from the Lord.
E dico: «E' sparita la mia gloria, la speranza che mi veniva dal Signore».
19 ZAIN. I remembered by reason of my poverty, and because of persecution my bitterness and gall shall be remembered;
Il ricordo della mia miseria e del mio vagare è come assenzio e veleno.
20 and my soul shall meditate with me.
Ben se ne ricorda e si accascia dentro di me la mia anima.
21 This will I lay up in my heart, therefore I will endure.
Questo intendo richiamare alla mia mente, e per questo voglio riprendere speranza.
22 HETH. [It is] the mercies of the Lord, that he has not failed me, because his compassions are not exhausted. Pity [us], O Lord, early [every] month: for we are not brought to an end, because his compassions are not exhausted.
Le misericordie del Signore non sono finite, non è esaurita la sua compassione;
23 [They are] new every morning: great is your faithfulness.
esse son rinnovate ogni mattina, grande è la sua fedeltà.
24 The Lord is my portion, says my soul; therefore will I wait for him.
«Mia parte è il Signore - io esclamo - per questo in lui voglio sperare».
25 TETH. The Lord is good to them that wait for him: the soul which shall seek him
Buono è il Signore con chi spera in lui, con l'anima che lo cerca.
26 [is] good, and shall wait for, and quietly expect salvation of the Lord.
E' bene aspettare in silenzio la salvezza del Signore.
27 TETH. [It is] good for a man when he bears a yoke in his youth.
E' bene per l'uomo portare il giogo fin dalla giovinezza.
28 He will sit alone, and be silent, because he has borne [it] upon him.
Sieda costui solitario e resti in silenzio, poiché egli glielo ha imposto;
cacci nella polvere la bocca, forse c'è ancora speranza;
30 JOD. He will give [his] cheek to him that smites him: he will be filled full with reproaches.
porga a chi lo percuote la sua guancia, si sazi di umiliazioni.
31 For the Lord will not reject for ever.
Poiché il Signore non rigetta mai...
32 CHAPH. For he that has brought down will pity, and [that] according to the abundance of his mercy.
Ma, se affligge, avrà anche pietà secondo la sua grande misericordia.
33 He has not answered [in anger] from his heart, though he has brought low the children of a man.
Poiché contro il suo desiderio egli umilia e affligge i figli dell'uomo.
34 LAMED. To bring down under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,
Quando schiacciano sotto i loro piedi tutti i prigionieri del paese,
35 to turn aside the judgement of a man before the face of the Most High,
quando falsano i diritti di un uomo in presenza dell'Altissimo,
36 to condemn a man [unjustly] in his judgement, the Lord has not given commandment.
quando fan torto a un altro in una causa, forse non vede il Signore tutto ciò?
37 Who has thus spoken, and it has come to pass? the Lord has not commanded it.
Chi mai ha parlato e la sua parola si è avverata, senza che il Signore lo avesse comandato?
38 Out of the mouth of the Most High there shall not come forth evil and good.
Dalla bocca dell'Altissimo non procedono forse le sventure e il bene?
39 MEM. Why should a living man complain, a man concerning his sin?
Perché si rammarica un essere vivente, un uomo, per i castighi dei suoi peccati?
40 NUN. Our way has been searched out and examined, and we will turn to the Lord.
«Esaminiamo la nostra condotta e scrutiamola, ritorniamo al Signore.
41 Let us lift up our hearts with [our] hand to the lofty One in heaven.
Innalziamo i nostri cuori al di sopra delle mani, verso Dio nei cieli.
42 We have sinned, we have transgressed; and you have not pardoned.
Abbiamo peccato e siamo stati ribelli; tu non ci hai perdonato.
43 SAMECH. You has visited [us] in wrath, and driven us away: you has slain, you has not pitied.
Ti sei avvolto nell'ira e ci hai perseguitati, hai ucciso senza pietà.
44 You have veiled yourself with a cloud because of prayer, that I might be blind,
Ti sei avvolto in una nube, così che la supplica non giungesse fino a te.
45 and be cast off. AIN. You have set us [alone] in the midst of the nations.
Ci hai ridotti a spazzatura e rifiuto in mezzo ai popoli.
46 All our enemies have opened their mouth against us.
Han spalancato la bocca contro di noi tutti i nostri nemici.
47 Fear and wrath are come upon us, suspense and destruction.
Terrore e trabocchetto sono la nostra sorte, desolazione e rovina».
48 Mine eye shall pour down torrents of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Rivoli di lacrime scorrono dai miei occhi, per la rovina della figlia del mio popolo.
49 PHE. Mine eye is drowned [with tears], and I will not be silent, so that there shall be no rest,
Il mio occhio piange senza sosta perché non ha pace
50 until the Lord look down, and behold from heaven.
finché non guardi e non veda il Signore dal cielo.
51 Mine eye shall prey upon my soul, because of all the daughters of the city.
Il mio occhio mi tormenta per tutte le figlie della mia città.
52 TSADE. The fowlers chased me as a sparrow, all mine enemies destroyed my life in a pit without cause,
Mi han dato la caccia come a un passero coloro che mi son nemici senza ragione.
53 and laid a stone upon me.
Mi han chiuso vivo nella fossa e han gettato pietre su di me.
54 Water flowed over my head: I said, I am cut off.
Son salite le acque fin sopra il mio capo; io dissi: «E' finita per me».
55 KOPH. I called upon your name, O Lord, out of the lowest dungeon.
Ho invocato il tuo nome, o Signore, dalla fossa profonda.
56 You heard my voice: close not your ears to my supplication.
Tu hai udito la mia voce: «Non chiudere l'orecchio al mio sfogo».
57 You drew near to my help: in the day wherein I called upon you you said to me, Fear not.
Tu eri vicino quando ti invocavo, hai detto: «Non temere!».
58 RECHS. O Lord, you has pleaded the causes of my soul; you has redeemed my life.
Tu hai difeso, Signore, la mia causa, hai riscattato la mia vita.
59 You have seen, O Lord, my troubles: you have judged my cause.
Hai visto, o Signore, il torto che ho patito, difendi il mio diritto!
60 You have seen all their vengeance, [you have looked] on all their devices against me.
Hai visto tutte le loro vendette, tutte le loro trame contro di me.
61 CHSEN. You have heard their reproach [and] all their devices against me;
Hai udito, Signore, i loro insulti, tutte le loro trame contro di me,
62 the lips of them that rose up against me, and their plots against me all the day;
i discorsi dei miei oppositori e le loro ostilità contro di me tutto il giorno.
63 their sitting down and their rising up: look you upon their eyes.
Osserva quando siedono e quando si alzano; io sono la loro beffarda canzone.
64 You will render them a recompense, O Lord, according to the works of their hands.
Rendi loro il contraccambio, o Signore, secondo l'opera delle loro mani.
65 THAU. You will give them [as] a covering, the grief of my heart.
Rendili duri di cuore, la tua maledizione su di loro!
66 You will persecute them in anger, and will consume them from under the heaven, O Lord.
Perseguitali nell'ira e distruggili sotto il cielo, Signore.
