Judges 20
1 And all the children of Israel went out, and all the congregation was gathered as one man, from Dan even to Bersabee, and in the land of Galaad, to the Lord at Massepha.
Da rykkende alle Israeliterne ud, og Menigheden samledes som een Mand fra Dan til Be'ersjeba for HERREN i Mizpa; ogsaa fra Gileads Land kom de.
2 And all the tribes of Israel stood before the Lord in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.
Alle Folkets Støtter, alle Israels Stammer indfandt sig i Guds Folks Forsamling, 400 000 Mand Fodfolk, væbnet med Sværd.
3 And the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Massepha: and the children of Israel came and said, Tell us, where did this wickedness take place?
Benjaminiterne hørte, at Israeliterne var draget op til Mizpa. Og Israeliterne sagde: »Fortæl dog, hvorledes denne Misgerning gik for sig!«
4 And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I and my concubine went to Gabaa of Benjamin to lodge.
Da tog Manden, Leviten, den myrdede Kvindes Mand, til Orde og sagde: »Jeg og min Medhustru kom til Gibea i Benjamin for at overnatte der.
5 And the men of Gabaa rose up against me, and compassed the house by night against me; they wished to kill me, and they have humbled my concubine, and she is dead.
Saa rejste Gibeas Borgere sig imod mig og omringede mig om Natten i Huset; mig vilde de dræbe, og min Medhustru skændede de, saa at hun døde.
6 And I laid hold of my concubine, and divided her in pieces, and sent [the parts] into every coast of the inheritance of the children of Israel; for they have wrought lewdness and abomination in Israel.
Da tog jeg min Medhustru, skar hende i Stykker og sendte Stykkerne rundt i hele Israels Arvelods Omraade, fordi de havde begaaet grov Utugt og Skændselsdaad i Israel!
7 Behold, all you [are] children of Israel; and consider and take counsel here amongst yourselves.
Nu er I her, alle Israeliter, sig nu eders Mening og kom med eders Raad!«
8 And all the people rose up as one man, saying, No one of us shall return to his tent, and no one of us shall return to his house.
Da rejste hele Folket sig som een Mand og sagde: »Ingen af os vil vende hjem, ingen af os vil begive sig til sit Hus!
9 And now this [is] the thing which shall be done in Gabaa; we will go up against it by lot.
Men saaledes vil vi handle med Gibea: Vi vil drage op imod det efter Lodkastning,
10 Moreover we will take ten men for a hundred for all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred for a thousand, and a thousand for ten thousand, to take provision, to cause them to come to Gabaa of Benjamin, to do to it according to all the abomination, which they wrought in Israel.
og vi vil udtage ti Mænd af hundrede af alle Israels Stammer, hundrede af tusind og tusind af titusind til at hente Fødemidler til Folket, til dem, som er kommet for fuldt ud at gengælde Gibea i Benjamin den Skændselsdaad, de har øvet i Israel!«
11 And all the men of Israel were gathered to the city as one man.
Derpaa samlede alle Israels Mænd sig mod Byen, alle som een.
12 And the tribes of Israel sent men through the whole tribe of Benjamin, saying, What [is] this wickedness that has been wrought amongst you?
Og Israels Stammer sendte Mænd ud i hele Benjamins Stamme og lod sige: »Hvad er det for en Misgerning, der er sket hos eder?
13 Now then give up the men the sons of transgressors that are in Gabaa, and we will put them to death, and purge out wickedness from Israel: but the children of Benjamin consented not to listen to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.
Udlever nu Mændene i Gibea, de Niddinger, for at vi kan dræbe dem og skaffe Misgerningen bort fra Israel!« Men Benjaminiterne vilde ikke høre deres Brødre Israeliternes Ord.
14 And the children of Benjamin were gathered from their cities to Gabaa, to go forth to fight with the children of Israel.
Og Benjaminiterne stævnede sammen fra deres Byer til Gibea for at drage i Kamp mod Israeliterne.
15 And the children of Benjamin from their cities were numbered in that day, twenty-three thousand, [every] man drawing a sword, besides the inhabitants of Gabaa, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men of all the people, able to use both hands alike;
Da Benjaminiterne fra Byerne mønstredes den Dag, udgjorde de 25 000 vaabenføre Mænd, foruden dem af Gibeas Indbyggere, der mønstredes, 700 udsøgte Krigere;
16 All these could sling with stones at a hair, and not miss.
af alle disse Krigsfolk var 700 udvalgte Krigere kejthaandede; de kunde alle slynge med Sten, saa de ramte paa et Haar uden at fejle.
17 And the men of Israel, exclusive of Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword; all these [were] men of war.
Da Israels Mænd mønstredes, fraregnet Benjamin, udgjorde de 400 000 vaabenføre Mænd, der alle var Krigere.
18 And they arose and went up to Baethel, and enquired of God: and the children of Israel said, Who shall go up for us first to fight with the children of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Juda shall go up first as leader.
De brød saa op og drog til Betel og raadspurgte Gud; og Israeliterne sagde: »Hvem af os skal først drage i Kamp mod Benjaminiterne?« HERREN svarede: »Det skal Juda!«
19 And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gabaa.
Saa brød Israeliterne op om Morgenen og slog Lejr uden for Gibea.
20 And they went out, all the men of Israel, to fight with Benjamin, and engaged with them at Gabaa.
Og Israels Mænd rykkede ud til Kamp imod Benjamin, og Israels Mænd stillede sig op til Kamp imod dem for at angribe Gibea.
21 And the sons of Benjamin went forth from Gabaa, and they destroyed in Israel on that day two and twenty thousand men down to the ground.
Men Benjaminiterne gjorde Udfald fra Gibea og fældede den Dag 22 000 Mand af Israel.
22 And the men of Israel strengthened themselves, and again engaged in battle in the place where they had engaged on the first day.
Folket, Israels Mænd, tog sig da sammen og stillede sig atter op til Kamp paa samme Sted som den første Dag;
23 And the children of Israel went up, and wept before the Lord till evening, and enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall we again draw near to battle with our brethren the children of Benjamin? and the Lord said, Go up against them.
Da drog Israeliterne op til Betel og græd lige til Aften for HERRENS Aasyn; og de adspurgte HERREN: »Skal jeg atter tage Kampen op med min Broder Benjamins Sønner?« Og HERREN svarede: »Drag op imod ham!«
24 And the children of Israel advanced against the children of Benjamin on the second day.
og Israeliterne rykkede Benjaminiterne paa nært Hold den anden Dag.
25 And the children of Benjamin went forth to meet them from Gabaa on the second day, and destroyed of the children of Israel yet further eighteen thousand men down to the ground: all these drew sword.
Men Benjaminiterne gjorde Udfald fra Gibea for at møde dem den anden Dag, og de fældede yderligere 18 000 Mand af Israeliterne, alle sammen vaabenføre Mænd.
26 And the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Baethel; and they wept, and sat there before the Lord; and they fasted on that day until evening, and offered whole burnt offerings and perfect sacrifices, before the Lord,
Saa drog alle Israeliterne, hele Folket, op til Betel; og de græd og sad der for HERRENS Aasyn og fastede den Dag lige til Aften, og de ofrede Brændofre og Takofre for HERRENS Aasyn.
27 for the ark of the Lord God [was] there in those days,
Derpaa raadspurgte Israeliterne HERREN i de Dage var Guds Pagts Ark der,
28 and Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron stood before it in those days; and the children of Israel enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall we yet again go forth to fight with our brethren the sons of Benjamin? and the Lord said, Go up, to-morrow I will give them into your hands.
og Pinehas, en Søn af Arons Søn Eleazar, gjorde i de Dage Tjeneste ved den — og de sagde: »Skal jeg atter drage i Kamp mod min Broder Benjamins Sønner eller lade være?« HERREN svarede: »Drag i Kamp, thi i Morgen giver jeg ham i din Haand!«
29 And the children of Israel set an ambush against Gabaa round about [it].
Israeliterne lagde nu Baghold rundt om Gibea.
30 And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and arrayed themselves against Gabaa as before.
Og Israeliterne drog op mod Benjaminiterne paa den tredje Dag og stillede sig op til Angreb paa Gibea ligesom de tidligere Gange.
31 And the children of Benjamin went out to meet the people, and were all drawn out of the city, and began to strike and kill the people as before in the roads, whereof one goes up to Baethel, and one to Gabaa in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
Da nu Benjaminiterne gjorde Udfald mod Hæren, blev de afskaaret fra Byen og lokket ud paa Vejene til Betel og Gibeon; til at begynde med huggede de nogle al Folkene ned paa aaben Mark ligesom de tidligere Gange, omtrent tredive Mand af Israel,
32 And the children of Benjamin said, They fall before us as at the first: but the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them out from the city into the roads; and they did so.
og Benjaminiterne tænkte nu: »Vi har slaaet dem ligesom før!« Men Israeliterne sagde: »Lad os flygte og saaledes afskære dem fra Byen og lokke dem ud paa Vejene!«
33 And all the men rose up out of their places, and engaged in Baal Thamar; and the liers in wait of Israel advanced from their place from Maraagabe.
Saa brød alle Israels Mænd op fra deres Plads og stillede sig op til Kamp i Ba'al-Tamar, medens Bagholdet brød op fra sin Plads vesten for Geba.
34 And there came over against Gabaa ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel; and the fight [was] severe; and they knew not that evil was coming upon them.
Nu rykkede 10 000 Mand, udvalgte Folk af hele Israel, frem for Gibea, og Kampen blev haard; men de vidste ikke, at Ulykken var ved at ramme dem.
35 And the Lord struck Benjamin before the children of Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin in that day a hundred and twenty-five thousand men: all these drew sword.
Saa slog HERREN Benjamin foran Israel, og Israeliterne fældede den Dag 25 100 Mand af Benjamin, alle vaabenføre Mænd;
36 And the children of Benjamin saw that they were struck; and the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted in the ambuscade which they had prepared against Gabaa.
da indsaa Benjaminiterne, at de var slagne. Israeliterne trak sig tilbage for Benjamin, idet de stolede paa Bagholdet, de havde lagt mod Gibea;
37 And when they retreated, then the liers in wait rose up, and they moved towards Gabaa, and the whole ambush came forth, and they struck the city with the edge of the sword.
og Bagholdet kastede sig i en Fart over Gibea og drog frem og huggede hele Byens Befolkning ned med Sværdet.
38 And the children of Israel had a signal of battle with the liers in wait, that they should send up a signal of smoke from the city.
Der var truffet den Aftale mellem Israels Mænd og Bagholdet, at de skulde lade en Røgsøjle stige op fra Byen.
39 And the children of Israel saw that the liers in wait had seized Gabaa, and they stood in line of battle; and Benjamin began to strike down wounded ones amongst the men of Israel about thirty men; for they said, Surely they fall again before us, as in the first battle.
Da Israels Mænd vendte om i Kampen, huggede Benjamin til at begynde med henved tredive af Israels Mænd ned, thi de tænkte: »Visselig, vi har slaaet dem ligesom i den forrige Kamp.«
40 And the signal went up increasingly over the city as a pillar of smoke; and Benjamin looked behind him, and behold the destruction of the city went up to heaven.
Da nu Søjlen, Røgstøtten, begyndte at stige op fra Byen, vendte Benjamin sig om, og se, Røgen slog op mod Himmelen fra hele Byen,
41 And the men of Israel turned back, and the men of Benjamin hasted, because they saw that evil had come upon them.
og samtidig vendte Israels Mænd om fra Flugten. Da blev Benjamins Mænd forfærdede, thi de indsaa, at Ulykken havde ramt dem;
42 And they turned to the way of the wilderness from before the children of Israel, and fled: but the battle overtook them, and they from the cities destroyed them in the midst of them.
og de gjorde omkring for Israels Mænd og flygtede ad Ørkenen til. Men Kampen fortsattes i Hælene paa dem. Og de fra Byerne huggede ned for Fode iblandt dem;
43 And they cut down Benjamin, and pursued him from Nua closely till they came opposite Gabaa on the east.
de omringede Benjaminiterne og forfulgte dem, til de havde Geba foran sig mod Øst.
44 And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men: all these [were] men of might.
Af Benjamin faldt 18 000 Mand, lutter dygtige Krigere.
45 And the rest turned, and fled to the wilderness to the rock of Remmon; and the children of Israel picked off of them five thousand men; and the children of Israel went down after them as far as Gedan, and they struck of them two thousand men.
De gjorde omkring og flygtede og deres Forfølgere gjorde paa Vejene en Efterhøst paa 5000 Mand: de forfulgte dem skarpt, til de fik dem tilintetgjort, og huggede 2000 Mand ned af dem.
46 And all that fell of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men that drew sword in that day: all these were men of might.
De, der faldt af Benjamin den Dag, var saaledes i alt 25 000 vaabenføre Mænd, alle tapre Folk.
47 And the rest turned, and fled to the wilderness to the rock of Remmon, even [six] hundred men; and they sojourned four months in the rock of Remmon.
De gjorde omkring og flygtede ud i Ørkenen til Rimmons Klippe, 600 Mand stærke, og blev der i fire Maaneder.
48 And the children of Israel returned to the children of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword from the city of Methla, even to the cattle, and every thing that was found in all the cities: and they burnt with fire the cities they found.
Men Israels Mænd vendte tilbage til Benjaminiterne og huggede dem ned med Sværdet, baade Mennesker og Kvæg, overhovedet alt, hvad der var, og desuden stak de Ild paa alle Byerne der.
