Judges 19
1 And there was a Levite sojourning in the sides of mount Ephraim, and he took to himself a concubine from Bethleem Juda.
En aquellos días, cuando no había rey en Israel, había un levita que vivía al otro lado de la región montañosa de Efraín, que tomó para sí una concubina de Belén de Judá.
2 And his concubine departed from him, and went away from him to the house of her father to Bethleem Juda, and she was there four months.
Su concubina se hizo la prostituta contra él, y se fue de él a la casa de su padre, a Belén de Judá, y estuvo allí cuatro meses.
3 And her husband rose up, and went after her to speak kindly to her, to recover her to himself; and he had his young man with him, and a pair of asses; and she brought him into the house of her father; and the father of the damsel saw him, and was well pleased to meet him.
Su marido se levantó y fue tras ella para hablarle con cariño, para traerla de nuevo, llevando consigo a su criado y un par de burros. Lo llevó a la casa de su padre; y cuando el padre de la joven lo vio, se alegró de recibirlo.
4 And his father-in-law, the father of the damsel, constrained him, and he stayed with him for three days; and they ate and drank, and lodged there.
Su suegro, el padre de la joven, lo retuvo allí, y se quedó con él tres días. Comieron y bebieron, y se quedaron allí.
5 And it came to pass on the fourth day that they rose early, and he stood up to depart; and the father of the damsel said to his son-in-law, Strengthen your heart with a morsel of bread, and afterwards you shall go.
Al cuarto día, se levantaron temprano por la mañana, y él se levantó para partir. El padre de la joven dijo a su yerno: “Fortalece tu corazón con un bocado de pan, y después seguirás tu camino”.
6 So they two sat down together and ate and drank: and the father of the damsel said to her husband, Tarry now the night, and let your heart be merry.
Así que se sentaron, comieron y bebieron los dos juntos. Entonces el padre de la joven le dijo al hombre: “Ten a bien quedarte toda la noche, y alegra tu corazón.”
7 And the man rose up to depart; but his father-in-law constrained him, and he stayed and lodged there.
El hombre se levantó para marcharse; pero su suegro le instó, y se quedó allí de nuevo.
8 And he rose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the father of the damsel said, Strengthen now your heart, and quit yourself as a soldier till the day decline; and the two ate.
Al quinto día se levantó temprano para partir, y el padre de la joven le dijo: “Por favor, fortalece tu corazón y quédate hasta que el día decline”; y ambos comieron.
9 And the man rose up to depart, he and his concubine, and his young man; but his father-in-law the father of the damsel said to him, Behold now, the day has declined towards evening; lodge here, an let your heart rejoice; and you shall rise early to-morrow for your journey, and you shall go to your habitation.
Cuando el hombre se levantó para partir, él, su concubina y su criado, su suegro, el padre de la joven, le dijeron: “He aquí que el día se acerca a la tarde, por favor, quédate toda la noche. He aquí que el día se acaba. Quédate aquí, para que tu corazón se alegre; y mañana sigue tu camino temprano, para que vuelvas a casa”.
10 But the man would not lodge there, but he arose and departed, and came to the part opposite Jebus, (this is Jerusalem, ) and [there was] with him a pair of asses saddled, and his concubine [was] with him.
Pero el hombre no quiso quedarse esa noche, sino que se levantó y se fue cerca de Jebús (también llamada Jerusalén). Con él iban un par de asnos ensillados. También iba con él su concubina.
11 And they came as far as Jebus: and the day had far advanced, and the young man said to his master, Come, I pray you, and let us turn aside to this city of the Jebusites, and let us lodge in it.
Cuando estuvieron junto a Jebús, el día estaba muy avanzado, y el siervo dijo a su amo: “Por favor, ven y entremos en esta ciudad de los jebuseos y quedémonos en ella.”
12 And his master said to him, We will not turn aside to a strange city, where there is not one of the children of Israel, but we will pass on as far as Gabaa.
Su amo le dijo: “No entraremos en la ciudad de un extranjero que no es de los hijos de Israel, sino que pasaremos a Gabaa”.
13 And he said to his young man, Come, and let us draw near to one of the places, and we will lodge in Gabaa or in Rama.
Dijo a su criado: “Ven y acerquémonos a uno de estos lugares; y nos alojaremos en Gabaa o en Ramá.”
14 And they passed by and went on, and the sun went down upon them near to Gabaa, which is in Benjamin.
Pasaron, pues, y siguieron su camino; y el sol se puso sobre ellos cerca de Gabaa, que pertenece a Benjamín.
15 And they turned aside thence to go in to lodge in Gabaa; and they went in, and sat down in the street of the city, and there was no one who conducted them into a house to lodge.
Pasaron por allí, para entrar a alojarse en Gabaa. Entraron y se sentaron en la calle de la ciudad, pues no había nadie que los acogiera en su casa para quedarse.
16 And behold, an old man came out of the field from his work in the evening; and the man was of mount Ephraim, and he sojourned in Gabaa, and the men of the place [were] sons of Benjamin.
He aquí, un anciano venía de su trabajo del campo al atardecer. El hombre era de la región montañosa de Efraín, y vivía en Gabaa; pero los hombres del lugar eran benjamitas.
17 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw a traveller in the street of the city; and the old man said to him, Whither go you, and whence come you?
Alzó sus ojos y vio al caminante en la calle de la ciudad; y el anciano le dijo: “¿Adónde vas? ¿De dónde vienes?”
18 And he said to him, We are passing by from Bethleem Juda to the sides of mount Ephraim: I am from thence, and I went as far as Bethleem Juda, and I am going home, and there is no man to take me into his house.
Le dijo: “Pasamos de Belén de Judá al lado más lejano de la región montañosa de Efraín. Yo soy de allí, y fui a Belén de Judá. Voy a la casa de Yahvé, y no hay nadie que me haya acogido en su casa.
19 Yet is there straw and food for our asses, and bread and wine for me and my handmaid and the young man with your servants; there is no lack of anything.
Sin embargo, hay paja y pienso para nuestros asnos, y también hay pan y vino para mí, para tu siervo y para el joven que está con tus siervos. No falta nada”.
20 And the old man said, Peace [be] to you; only be every lack of your upon me, only do you by no means lodge in the street.
El anciano dijo: “¡La paz sea contigo! Deja que supla todas tus necesidades, pero no duermas en la calle”.
21 And he brought him into his house, and made room for his asses; and they washed their feet, and ate and drank.
Así que le hizo entrar en su casa, y dio a los burros forraje. Luego se lavaron los pies, y comieron y bebieron.
22 And they [were] comforting their heart, when, behold, the men of the city, sons of transgressors, compassed the house, knocking at the door: and they spoke to the old man the owner of the house, saying, Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may know him.
Mientras se alegraban, he aquí que los hombres de la ciudad, algunos malvados, rodearon la casa, golpeando la puerta; y hablaron al dueño de la casa, el anciano, diciendo: “¡Saca al hombre que ha entrado en tu casa, para que podamos acostarnos con él!”
23 And the master of the house came out to them, and said, Nay, brethren, do not you wrong, I pray you, after this man has come into my house; do not you this folly.
El hombre, dueño de la casa, salió hacia ellos y les dijo: “No, hermanos míos, por favor, no actuéis con tanta maldad; ya que este hombre ha entrado en mi casa, no hagáis esta locura.
24 Behold my daughter a virgin, and the man's concubine: I will bring them out, and humble you them, and do to them that which is good in your eyes; but to this man do not this folly.
Mirad, aquí está mi hija virgen y su concubina. Las sacaré ahora. Humilladlas y haced con ellas lo que os parezca bien; pero a este hombre no le hagáis semejante locura.”
25 But the men would not consent to listen to him; so the man laid hold of his concubine, and brought her out to them; and they knew her, and abused her all night till the morning, and let her go when the morning dawned.
Pero los hombres no le hicieron caso, así que el hombre agarró a su concubina y se la llevó, y tuvieron relaciones sexuales con ella y abusaron de ella toda la noche hasta la mañana. Cuando amaneció, la dejaron ir.
26 And the woman came towards morning, and fell down at the door of the house where her husband was, until it was light.
Al amanecer, la mujer llegó y se postró a la puerta de la casa del hombre donde estaba su señor, hasta que se hizo de día.
27 And her husband rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went forth to go on his journey; and, behold, the woman his concubine had fallen down by the doors of the house, and her hands were on the threshold.
Su señor se levantó por la mañana, abrió las puertas de la casa y salió para seguir su camino; y he aquí que la mujer, su concubina, se había postrado a la puerta de la casa, con las manos en el umbral.
28 And he said to her, Rise, and let us go; and she answered not, for she was dead: and he took her upon his ass, and went to his place.
Le dijo: “¡Levántate y vámonos!”, pero nadie respondió. Entonces la subió al asno; y el hombre se levantó y se fue a su sitio.
29 And he took his sword, and laid hold of his concubine, and divided her into twelve parts, and sent them to every coast of Israel.
Cuando entró en su casa, tomó un cuchillo y descuartizó a su concubina, y la dividió, miembro por miembro, en doce pedazos, y la envió por todos los límites de Israel.
30 And it was so, that every one who saw it said, [Such a day] as this has not happened nor has been seen from the day of the going up of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt until this day: take you counsel concerning it, and speak.
Fue así, que todos los que lo vieron dijeron: “¡No se ha hecho ni visto un hecho semejante desde el día en que los hijos de Israel subieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy! Consideradlo, tomad consejo y hablad”.
