Job 5
1 But call, if any one will listen to you, or if you shall see any of the holy angels.
"Ach, fordere immer vor Gericht! Wer leistet deiner Ladung Folge? Mit Heiligen entzweit, an wen willst du dich wenden?
2 For wrath destroys the foolish one, and envy slays him that has gone astray.
Den Toren wird der Ärger töten, den Dummen wird der Zorn das Leben kosten.
3 And I have seen foolish ones taking root: but suddenly their habitation was devoured.
Ich selbst sah einen Toren festgewurzelt stehen; da schaut ich seines Hauses raschen Untergang,
4 Let their children be far from safety, and let them be crushed at the doors of vile men, and let there be no deliverer.
und seine Kinder standen hilflos da. Sie mußten, ohne Anwalt, im Gerichtstor sich zertreten lassen.
5 For what they have collected, the just shall eat; but they shall not be delivered out of calamities: let their strength be utterly exhausted.
Was er geerntet, ißt ein Hungriger, und dieser bringt davon dem Darbenden. Nach ihren Krügen lechzen Durstige.
6 For labour can’t by any means come out of the earth, nor shall trouble spring out of the mountains:
Denn Unheil wächst nicht aus dem Staube; nicht sprießt das Unglück aus dem Boden.
7 yet man is born to labour, and [even so] the vulture's young seek the high places.
Dem Unglück wächst ein Mensch entgegen, so wie empor der Flamme Funken fliegen.
8 Nevertheless I will beseech the Lord, and will call upon the Lord, the sovereign of all;
An deiner Stelle kehrte ich mich doch zu Gott; ich stellte meine Sache Gott anheim,
9 who does great things and untraceable, glorious things also, and marvellous, of which there is no number:
ihm, der so herrlich, unerforschlich waltet und Wunder wirket ohne Zahl,
10 who gives rain upon the earth, sending water on the earth:
der selbst der Erde Regen spendet und Wasser auf die Fluren schickt,
11 who exalts the lowly, and raises up them that are lost:
der Niedrige erhöht, Gebeugte führt zum Heil,
12 frustrating the counsels of the crafty, and their hands shall not perform the truth:
der hintertreibt den Plan der Listigen, daß ihre Hände immer Förderliches schaffen,
13 who takes the wise in their wisdom, and subverts the counsel of the crafty
der Kluge übertrifft an List, so daß der Schlauen Plan sich überstürzt,
14 In the day darkness shall come upon them, and let them grope in the noon-day even as in the night:
daß sie bei Tag auf Dunkel stoßen, am Mittag tappen wie bei Nacht,
15 and let them perish in war, and let the weak escape from the hand of the mighty.
der rettet den Verlassenen vor ihrem Rachen, den Armen vor der starken Faust.
16 And let the weak have hope, but the mouth of the unjust be stopped.
Drum geht dem Schwachen Hoffnung auf; die Bosheit muß ihr Maul verschließen.
17 But blessed [is] the man whom the Lord has reproved; and reject not you the chastening of the Almighty.
Wohl dem, der Gottes Zucht erfährt! Verschmäh daher des Höchsten Mahnung nicht!
18 for he causes [a man] to be in pain, and restores [him] again: he smites, and his hands heal.
Denn er verwundet und verbindet; von seiner Hand kommt Schlag und Heil.
19 Six time he shall deliver you out of distresses: and in the seventh harm shall not touch you.
In sechs der Nöte schont er deiner; in sieben dich kein Unheil trifft.
20 In famine he shall deliver you from death: and in war he shall free you from the power of the sword.
Er rettet dich vom Tod in Hungersnot, im Krieg vor der Gefahr des Schwertes.
21 He shall hide you from the scourge of the tongue: and you shall not be afraid of coming evils.
Und greifen Feuerzungen um sich, so bist du wohl geborgen, hast nichts zu fürchten, wenngleich Verheerung kommt.
22 You shall laugh at the unrighteous and the lawless: and you shall not be afraid of wild beasts.
Des Dämons und der Seuche kannst du lachen; die wilden Tiere brauchst du nicht zu fürchten.
23 For the wild beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.
Denn mit des Landes Schrecknissen stehst du im Bunde; die wilden Tiere sind dir zugetan.
24 Then shall you know that your house shall be at peace, and the provision for your tabernacle shall not fail.
Und du erfährst, daß wohlbehalten bleibt dein Zelt, und musterst du dein Haus, vermißt du nichts.
25 And you shall know that your seed [shall be] abundant; and your children shall be like the herbage of the field.
Die Zahl der Kinder siehst du wachsen; wie Gras im Feld ist dein Gesproß.
26 And you shall come to the grave like ripe corn reaped in its season, or as a heap of the corn-flour collected in proper time.
Du gehst zum Grab im hohen Alter ein, wie Garben, eingeführt zur rechten Zeit.
27 Behold, we have thus sought out these matters; these are what we have heard: but do you reflect with yourself, if you have done anything [wrong].
So ist's. So haben wir's ergründet. So haben wir's gehört. Zu Herzen nimm es dir!"
