< Job 28 >

1 For there is a place for the silver, whence it comes, and a place for the gold, whence it is refined.
Sumkanglung takaehhaih ahmuen to oh moe, sui tui paciihaih ahmuen doeh oh tangtang.
2 For iron comes out of the earth, and brass is hewn out like stone.
Sum loe long thung hoiah takaeh moe, sumkamling loe thlung atui pacii naah ni oh.
3 He has set a bound to darkness, and he searches out every limit: a stone [is] darkness, and the shadow of death.
Kami mah hmaiim to sin moe, sum tacawthaih ahmuen kathuk, duekhaih tahlip khoving thungah sum to pakrong.
4 There is a cutting off the torrent by reason of dust: so they that forget the right way are weakened; they are removed from [amongst] men.
Kami ohhaih ahmuen hoi kangthla, panoek ai ih ahmuen ah, qui hoiah angbangh moe, long to takaeh.
5 [As for] the earth, out of it shall come bread: under it has been turned up as it were fire.
Long mah caaknaek to tacawtsak, toe atlim ah loe hmai to oh.
6 Her stones are the place of the sapphire: and [her] dust [supplies] man with gold.
To ah kaom thlungnawk loe Sapphire thlung tacawthaih ahmuen ah oh moe, maiphu doeh sui tacawthaih maiphu ah oh.
7 [There is] a path, the fowl has not known it, neither has the eye of the vulture seen it:
Tavaa mah panoek ai ih, tahmu mah doeh hnu ai ih, loklam to oh;
8 neither have the sons of the proud trodden it, a lion has not passed upon it.
to loklam loe kaipui mah cawh ai moe, hmawsaeng kaipui mah doeh pazui vai ai vop.
9 He has stretched forth his hand on the sharp [rock], and turned up mountains by the roots:
Kami mah ban hoiah thlung to pakhoih moe, maenawk to takung khoek to takaeh boih.
10 and he has interrupted the whirlpools of rivers, and mine eye has seen every precious thing.
Thlung to pakhoih moe, athung ah kaom atho kana hmuennawk to a hnuk.
11 And he has laid bare the depths of rivers, and has brought his power to light.
Kalong tui to pakaa moe, hnuk ai ih hmuennawk to a lak.
12 But whence has wisdom been discovered? and what is the place of knowledge?
Toe palunghahaih loe naa ah maw hnu thai tih? Palunghahaih ahmuen loe naa ah maw oh?
13 A mortal has not known its way, neither indeed has it been discovered amongst men.
Palunghahaih atho nazetto maw oh, tito kami mah panoek thai ai; kahing kaminawk ohhaih prae ah doeh hnu thai ai.
14 The depth said, It is not in me: and the sea said, It is not with me.
Kathuk tui mah, Kai thungah om ai; tuipui mah doeh kai khaeah om ai, tiah thuih.
15 One shall not give fine gold instead of it, neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it.
Kaciim suitui hoiah palunghahaih to qan thai ai moe, phoisa to noek moe, paek cadoeh, palunghahaih to qan thai ai.
16 Neither shall it be compared with gold of Sophir, with the precious onyx and sapphire.
Ophir ih sui hoiah doeh qan thai ai moe, atho kaom onyx hoi sapphire mah doeh qan thai ai.
17 Gold and crystal shall not be equalled to it, neither shall vessels of gold be its exchange.
Palunghahaih loe sui, atho kaom kawbaktih thlung hoiah doeh patah thai ai; kaciim suitui hoiah doeh alaih thai mak ai.
18 Coral and fine pearl shall not be mentioned: but do you esteem wisdom above the most precious things.
Koral hoi pale loe thuih han koi om ai; palunghahaih atho loe thlung kathim pongah doeh atho oh kue.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equalled to it; it shall not be compared with pure gold.
Ethiopia ih Topaz thlung hoiah patah thai ai moe, kaciim suitui hoiah doeh qan thai ai.
20 Whence then is wisdom found? and of what kind is the place of understanding?
To tih nahaeloe palunghahaih loe naa bang hoiah maw angzoh? Panoekthaihaih ahmuen loe naa ah maw oh?
21 It has escaped the notice of every man, and has been hidden from the birds of the sky.
Palunghahaih loe hinghaih katawn hmuennawk boih ih mik hoiah hnu thai ai, van ih tavaanawk mah doeh hnu thai ai.
22 Destruction and Death said, We have heard the report of it.
Amrohaih hoi duekhaih hnik mah loe, Palunghahaih lok to naa hoi khue ni ka thaih, tiah a thuih hoi.
23 God has well ordered the way of it, and he knows the place of it.
Sithaw mah khue ni palunghahaih loklam to panoek moe, a ohhaih ahmuen to panoek.
24 For he surveys the whole [earth] under heaven, knowing the things in the earth:
Anih loe long boenghaih to khet moe, van tlim ih hmuennawk boih to a hnuk.
25 all that he has made; the weight of the winds, the measures of the water.
Takhi thacakhaih to a noek moe, tuinawk to a tah.
26 When he made [them], thus he saw and numbered them, and made a way for the pealing of the thunder.
Kho angzohhaih dan hoi khopazih tangphra puekhaih loklam to a sak naah,
27 Then he saw it, and declared it: he prepared it [and] traced it out.
palunghahaih to a hnuk moe, amtuengsak; ue, anih mah caksak moe, a sak tanoek.
28 And he said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.
Anih mah kami khaeah, Khenah, Angraeng zithaih loe, palunghahaih ah oh; kasae caeh taakhaih loe, panoekthaihaih ah oh, tiah a naa.
