< Jeremias 2 >

1 And he said, Thus says the Lord,
I puta ano te kupu a Ihowa ki ahau, i mea,
2 I remember the kindness of your youth, and the love of your espousals,
3 in following the Holy One of Israel, says the Lord, Israel was the holy [people] to the Lord, [and] the first fruits of his increase: all that devoured him shall offend; evils shall come upon them, says the Lord.
He tapu a Iharaira ki a Ihowa, ko nga matamua ia o ona hua: ko te hunga katoa e kai ana i a ia, ka kiia he he ta ratou; ka pa te kino ki a ratou, e ai ta Ihowa.
4 Hear the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and every family of the house of Israel.
5 Thus says the Lord, What trespass have your fathers found in me, that they have revolted far from me, and gone after vanities, and become vain?
Ko te kupu tenei a Ihowa, He aha taku kino i mau i o koutou matua, i matara atu ai ratou i ahau, i whai ai ratou i te horihori, a horihori iho ratou?
6 And they said not, Where is the Lord, who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who guided us in the wilderness, in an untried and trackless land, in a land which no man at all went through, and no man lived there?
Kahore hoki a ratou kainga ake, Kei hea a Ihowa, nana nei tatou i kawe mai i te whenua o Ihipa, nana nei tatou i arahi i te koraha, i te whenua titohea, he maha nei nga rua, i te whenua o te matewai, o te atarangi o te mate, i te whenua kihai i h aerea e te tangata, kihai ano i nohoia e te tangata?
7 And I brought you to Carmel, that you should eat the fruits thereof, and the good thereof; and you went in, and defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.
A naku koutou i kawe mai ki te whenua maha ona hua, ki te kai i ona hua, i ona mea papai. Na, i to koutou taenga mai, kei te whakapoke i toku whenua, meinga ana e koutou toku wahi tupu hei mea whakarihariha.
8 The priests said not, Where is the Lord? and they that held by the law knew me not: the shepherds also sinned against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and went after that which profited not.
Kahore nga tohunga i ki, Kei hea a Ihowa; ko nga kairahurahu o te ture, kahore i matau ki ahau; kua he hoki nga rangatira ki ahau; ko nga poropiti, na Paara nga tikanga i poropiti ai ratou, whaia ana e ratou nga mea kahore nei he pai.
9 Therefore I will yet plead with you, and will plead with your children's children.
Mo reira ka totohe ano ahau ki a koutou, e ai ta Ihowa, ka totohe hoki ahau ki nga tama a a koutou tama.
10 For go to the isles of the Chettians, and se; and send to Kedar, and observe accurately, and see if such things have been done;
11 if the nations will change their gods, though they are not gods: but my people have changed their glory, [for that] from which they shall not be profited.
I whakaputaia ketia ranei ona atua e tetahi iwi, ehara nei ano i te atua? Na, ko toku iwi, kua whakaputaina ketia e ratou to ratou kororia hei mea kahore ona pai.
12 The heaven is amazed at this, and is very exceedingly horror-struck, says the Lord.
Miharo mai, e nga rangi, ki tenei, kia nui hoki te wehi, kia ngaro noa iho, e ai ta Ihowa.
13 For my people has committed two [faults], and evil ones: they have forsaken me, the fountain of water of life, and hewn out for themselves broken cisterns, which will not be able to hold water.
Ka rua hoki nga he kua mahia nei e taku iwi; ko ahau, ko te puna o nga wai ora kua mahue i a ratou, haua iho e ratou etahi poka, he poka pakaru, e kore nei e mau te wai ki roto.
14 Is Israel a servant, or a home-born slave? why has he become a spoil?
He pononga ranei a Iharaira? he pononga i whanau ki te whare? he aha ia i waiho ai hei pahuatanga?
15 The lions roared upon him, and uttered their voice, which have made his land a wilderness: and his cities are broken down, that they should not be inhabited.
Kua ngengere nga raiona kuao ki a ia, kua hamama: a kua meinga e ratou tona whenua kia ururua; kua tahuna ona pa, kahore hoki te tangata noho i reira.
16 Also the children of Memphis and Taphnas have known you, and mocked you.
I pakaru ano tou tumuaki i nga tamariki o Nopo, o Tahapanehe.
17 Has not your forsaking me brought these things upon you? says the Lord your God.
He teka ianei nau ano tenei i mahi ki a koe, i te mea nau i whakarere a Ihowa, tou Atua, i a ia e arahi ana i a koe i te ara?
18 And now what have you to do with the way of Egypt, to drink the water of Geon? and what have you to do with the way of the Assyrians, to drink the water of rivers?
Tena ra ko te aha mau i te ara ki Ihipa i inu ai koe i nga wai o Hihoro? he aha ranei mau i te ara ki Ahiria, i inu ai koe i nga wai o te awa?
19 Your apostasy shall correct you, and your wickedness shall reprove you: know then, and see, that your forsaking me [has been] bitter to you, says the Lord your God; and I have taken no pleasure in you, says the Lord your God.
Ko tou he ano hei riri i tau, ko ou tahuritanga ketanga ano hei papaki i a koe. Kia mohio koe, kia kite hoki, he mea kino, he mea kawa, kei tau whakarerenga i a Ihowa, i tou Atua, kahore hoki ou wehi ki ahau, e ai ta te Ariki, ta Ihowa o nga man o.
20 For of old you have broken your yoke, and plucked asunder your bands; and you has said, I will not serve you, but will go upon every high hill, and under every shady tree, there will I indulge in my fornication.
I wahia hoki tou ioka e ahau i mua, motumotuhia ana e ahau ou here; a ki mai ana koe, E kore ahau e mahi; heoi i runga koe i nga pukepuke tiketike katoa, i raro hoki i nga rakau kouru nui katoa, e koropiko ana, e kairau ana.
21 Yet I planted you a fruitful vine, entirely of the right sort: how are you a strange vine turned to bitterness!
He waina pai ano koe i taku whakatokanga i a koe, he momo pai katoa. Na te aha koe i puta ke ai ki ahau, he mea kua heke te tupu, he waina ke?
22 Though you should wash yourself with nitre, and multiply to yourself soap, [still] you are stained by your iniquities before me, says the Lord.
Ahakoa i horoi koe i a koe ki te houra, a nui noa tau hopi, e mau ana ano tou he ki toku aroaro, e ai ta te Ariki, ta Ihowa.
23 How will you say, I am not polluted, and have not gone after Baal? behold your ways in the burial-ground, and know what you have done: her voice has howled in the evening:
He pehea tau ki, Kahore oku poke, kihai ahau i whai i a Paarimi? Tirohia iho ou ara i te raorao, kia mohio ki au mahi. Tou rite, kei te kamera tere kopikopiko tonu ona ara;
24 she has extended her ways over the waters of the desert; she was hurried along by the lusts of her soul; she is given up [to them], who will turn her back? none that seek her shall be weary; at [the time of] her humiliation they shall find her.
Kei te kaihe mohoao kua mohio ki te koraha, e hongi ana i te hau mo tona hiahia; ka matenui ia ko wai hei whakahoki i a ia? ko te hunga katoa e rapu ana i a ia e kore e whakangenge noa i a ratou; i tona marama ano ka kitea ia e ratou.
25 Withdraw your foot from a rough way, and your throat from thirst: but she said I will strengthen myself: for she loved strangers, and went after them.
Kaiponuhia tou waewae, kei kore te hu, tou korokoro hoki kei mate i te wai. Na, kei te mea koe, Kua he: kahore; he tangata ke hoki aku i aroha ai, a ko ratou taku e whai ai.
26 As is the shame of a thief when he is caught, so shall the children of Israel be ashamed; they, and their kings, and their princes, and their priests, and their prophets.
27 They said to a stock, You are my father; and to a stone, You has begotten me: and they have turned [their] backs to me, and not their faces: yet in the time of their afflictions they will say, Arise, and save us.
28 And where are your gods, which you made for yourself? will they arise and save in the time of your affliction? for according to the number of your cities were your gods, O Juda; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem they sacrificed to Baal.
Kei hea ra ou atua i hanga e koe mou? kia whakatika ratou, ki te mea ka ora koe i a ratou i te wa e he ai koe: rite tonu hoki ki ou pa te maha o ou atua, e Hura.
29 Therefore do you speak to me? you all have been ungodly, and you all have transgressed against me, says the Lord.
30 In vain have I struck your children; you have not received correction: a sword has devoured your prophets as a destroying lion; yet you feared not.
Maumau whiu noa ahau i a koutou tamariki; kihai ratou i akona: ko ta koutou hoari nana i kai o koutou poropiti, i pera ano me ta te raiona kai kino.
31 Hear you the word of the Lord: thus says the Lord, Have I been a wilderness or a dry land to Israel? therefore has my people said, We will not be ruled over, and will not come to you any more?
E te whakatupuranga nei, whakaaroa te kupu a Ihowa, He koraha ranei ahau ki a Iharaira? he whenua pouri kerekere? he aha taku iwi i mea ai, Kua matara matou; heoi ano o matou taenga atu ki a koe?
32 Will a bride forget her ornaments, or a virgin her girdle? but my people has forgotten me days without number.
33 What fair device will you yet employ in your ways, so as to seek love? [it shall] not [be] so; moreover you has done wickedly in corrupting your ways;
34 and in your hands has been found the blood of innocent souls; I have not found them in holes, but on every oak.
35 Yet you said, I am innocent: only let his wrath be turned away from me. Behold, I [will] plead with you, whereas you say, I have not sinned.
Heoi kei te ki na koe, He harakore nei ahau; he pono e tahuri ke atu ana tona riri i ahau. Nana, ka whakawa ahau i a koe, mo tau kianga, Kahore oku hara.
36 For you has been so exceedingly contemptuous as to repeat your ways; but you shall be ashamed of Egypt, as you were ashamed of Assur.
He aha koe i kopikopiko rawa ai, i mea ai kia pokaia ketia he ara mou? Ka whakama ano koe ki Ihipa, ka pera me koe i whakama ra ki Ahiria.
37 For you shall go forth thence also with your hands upon your head; for the Lord has rejected your hope, and you shall not prosper in it.
Ina, ka haere atu ano koe i reira, i runga ano ou ringa i tou matenga, no te mea kua paopao a Ihowa ki ou whakawhirinakitanga, e kore ano koe e whai wahi i ena.
