Esias 14
1 And the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and they shall rest on their land: and the stranger shall be added to them, yes, shall be added to the house of Jacob.
Certes, l’Eternel aura pitié de Jacob, et il fera encore d’Israël son élu; il les rétablira sur leur sol. L’Étranger, alors, se ralliera à eux et s’annexera à la maison de Jacob.
2 And the Gentiles shall take them, and bring them into their place: and they shall inherit them, and they shall be multiplied upon the land for servants and handmaidens: and they that took them captives shall become captives [to them]; and they that had lordship over them shall be under [their] rule.
Les peuples viendront les prendre pour les ramener en leur pays, et la maison d’Israël les possédera comme esclaves et comme servantes sur la terre du Seigneur. Ainsi ils retiendront captifs ceux qui les avaient faits captifs et auront la haute main sur leurs oppresseurs.
3 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the Lord shall give you rest from your sorrow and vexation, [and from] your hard servitude wherein you did serve them.
Le jour où l’Eternel aura assuré ton repos, après tes épreuves, tes tourments et la dure servitude qui te fut imposée,
4 And you shall take up this lamentation against the king of Babylon, How has the extortioner ceased, and the taskmaster ceased!
tu entonneras le chant que voici sur le roi de Babylone: "Comment a disparu l’oppresseur, cessé la tyrannie!
5 The Lord has broken the yoke of sinners, the yoke of princes.
L’Eternel a brisé le bâton des méchants, le sceptre des despotes,
6 Having struck a nation in wrath, with an incurable plague, striking a nation with a wrathful plague, which spared [them] not, he rested in quiet.
qui frappait avec fureur les peuples de coups sans trêve, accablait avec rage les nations de persécutions sans merci.
7 All the earth cries aloud with joy:
La terre entière a maintenant retrouvé le calme et la paix: on éclate en cris d’allégresse.
8 the trees also of Libanus rejoice against you, and the cedar of Libanus, [saying], From the time that you have been laid low, no one has come up to cut us down.
Même les cyprès et les cèdres du Liban se réjouissent de ta chute: "Depuis que tu es à terre, le bûcheron ne monte plus contre nous."
9 Hell from beneath is provoked to meet you: all the great ones that have ruled over the earth have risen up together against you, they that have raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. (Sheol h7585)
Le Cheol, dans ses profondeurs, s’est ému à ton approche, il a réveillé pour toi les ombres, ceux qui furent jadis les puissants de la terre, il a fait lever de leurs trônes les rois des nations. (Sheol h7585)
10 All shall answer and say to you, You also have been taken, even as we; and you are numbered amongst us.
Tous ensemble prennent la parole et te disent: "Te voilà donc aussi frappé comme nous! Te voilà donc pareil à nous!"
11 Your glory has come down to Hades, and your great mirth: under you they shall spread corruption, and the worm shall be your covering. (Sheol h7585)
Ton faste est descendu dans le Cheol, avec tes harpes retentissantes; sous toi la vermine forme ta couche et les vers te servent de couverture. (Sheol h7585)
12 How has Lucifer, that rose in the morning, fallen from heaven! He that sent [orders] to all the nations is crushed to the earth.
Comme tu es tombé du ciel, astre brillant, fils de l’aurore! Comme tu as été renversé jusqu’à terre, dompteur des nations!
13 But you said in your heart, I will go up to heaven, I will set my throne above the stars of heaven: I will sit on a lofty mount, on the lofty mountains towards the north:
Tu disais en ton cœur: "Je monterai au ciel; au-dessus des étoiles de Dieu, j’érigerai mon trône; je m’assiérai sur la montagne du rendez-vous (des dieux), dans les profondeurs du Nord.
14 I will go up above the clouds: I will be like the Most High.
Je monterai sur les hauteurs des nuées, je serai l’égal du Très-Haut."
Mais non, c’est dans le Cheol que tu es précipité, dans les profondeurs du gouffre. (Sheol h7585)
16 They that see you shall wonder at you, and say, This is the man that troubled the earth, that made kings to shake;
Ceux qui te voient te fixent de leur regard et, pensifs, se disent: "Est-ce là cet homme qui faisait trembler la terre, chanceler les empires,
17 that made the whole world desolate, and destroyed its cities; he loosed not those who were in captivity.
qui changeait le monde en désert, renversait les villes et jamais n’ouvrait à ses captifs la porte des cachots?"
18 All the kings of the nations lie in honour, [every] man in his house.
Tous les rois des nations sont couchés avec honneur, chacun dans son mausolée;
19 But you shall be cast forth on the mountains, as a loathed carcase, with many dead who have been pierced with swords, going down to the grave.
mais toi, tu as été expulsé de ta tombe tel qu’un rejeton maudit; sous un linceul de morts, percés par le glaive et descendus dans les pierres du sépulcre, tu es pareil, toi, à une charogne piétinée.
20 As a garment defiled with blood shall not be pure, so neither shall you be pure; because you have destroyed my land, and have slain my people: you shall not endure for ever, —[you] an evil seed.
Tu ne partageras pas avec eux les honneurs de la sépulture, car tu as perdu ton pays, assassiné ton peuple. La race des méchants ne doit pas avoir de nom dans l’éternité.
21 Prepare your children to be slain for the sins of their father; that they arise not, and inherit the earth, nor fill the earth with wars.
Préparez le champ de carnage pour ses fils, à cause des iniquités de leurs pères, de peur qu’ils ne se lèvent pour reconquérir le monde, et que la terre ne soit de nouveau remplie de violences,
22 And I will rise up against them, says the Lord of hosts, and I will destroy their name, and remnant, and seed: thus says the Lord.
"Oui, je me lèverai contre eux, dit l’Eternel-Cebaot et, de Babylone je détruirai le nom et la trace, tout descendant, toute postérité, dit le Seigneur;
23 And I will make the region of Babylon desert, so that hedgehogs shall dwell [there], and it shall come to nothing: and I will make it a pit of clay for destruction.
j’en ferai le domaine du hérisson, le réceptacle des eaux, je le balaierai du balai de la destruction," dit l’Eternel-Cebaot.
24 Thus says the Lord of hosts, As I have said, so it shall be: and as I have purposed, so [the matter] shall remain:
L’Eternel-Cebaot a prononcé ce serment: "Certes, ce que j’ai résolu arrivera, ce que j’ai décrété s’accomplira.
25 [even] to destroy the Assyrians upon my land, and upon my mountains: and they shall be for trampling; and their yoke shall be taken away from them, and their glory shall be taken away from their shoulders.
Je briserai Achour en ma terre, je le broierai sur mes montagnes; son joug disparaîtra de dessus les hommes, et son fardeau cessera de peser sur leurs épaules.
26 This is the purpose which the Lord has purposed upon the whole earth: and this the hand that is uplifted against all the nations.
Voilà le décret préparé contre toute la terre, voilà la main étendue sur toutes les nations.
27 For what the Holy God has purposed, who shall frustrate? and who shall turn back his uplifted hand?
Oui, quand l’Eternel-Cebaot a décrété, qui peut faire obstacle? Sa main étendue, qui peut la ramener?"
28 In the year in which king Achaz died this word came.
L’Année de la mort du roi Achaz fut prononcé cet oracle:
29 Rejoice not, all you Philistines, because the yoke of him that struck you is broken: for out of the seed of the serpent shall come forth the young asps, and their young shall come forth flying serpents,
"Terre des Philistins, ne te réjouis pas sans mesure de ce qu’elle soit brisée, la verge qui te frappait; car de la racine d’un serpent sortira un basilic, et son fruit sera un dragon volant.
30 And the poor shall be fed by him, and poor men shall rest in peace: but he shall destroy your seed with hunger, and shall destroy your remnant.
Tandis que les élus des malheureux se nourriront et les humbles gîteront en sécurité, je ferai mourir de faim ta race; et ceux des tiens qui survivront, on les égorgera.
31 Howl, you gates of cities; let the cities be troubled and cry, [even] all the Philistines: for smoke is coming from the north, and there is no [possibility] of living.
Lamente-toi, porte, crie ta plainte, cité! Tu es toute défaillante, terre des Philistins: c’est qu’une fumée s’avance du Nord. Personne ne reste en arrière dans ses légions assemblées.
32 And what shall the kings of the nations answer? That the Lord has founded Sion, and by him the poor of the people shall be saved.
Et quelle réponse sera faite aux députés des nations? C’Est que l’Eternel a fondé Sion et que les humbles de son peuple y trouvent un abri!"
