Osee 11
1 Early in the morning were they cast off, the king of Israel has been cast off: for Israel is a child, and I loved him, and out of Egypt have I called his children.
Quand Israël était jeune, je l’avais pris en affection; du fond de l’Egypte j’ai appelé mon fils.
2 As I called them, so they departed from my presence: they sacrificed to Baalim, and burnt incense to graven images.
D’Autres les ont appelés: aussitôt ils sont allés à eux, sacrifiant aux Baals, offrant de l’encens aux idoles.
3 Yet I bound the feet of Ephraim, I took him on my arm; but they knew not that I healed them.
Pourtant, c’est moi qui ai dirigé les pas d’Ephraïm. Je les ai pris sur les bras! Mais ils n’ont pas voulu savoir que je leur apportais la guérison.
4 When men were destroyed, I drew them with the bands of my love: and I will be to them as a man striking [another] on his cheek: and I will have respect to him, I will prevail with him.
Je les ai menés avec des cordes d’humanité, avec les liens de l’amour; comme qui aurait soulevé le joug posé sur leurs mâchoires, ainsi ai-je été pour eux: je leur ai présenté de la nourriture.
5 Ephraim lived in Egypt; and [as for] the Assyrian, he was his king, because he would not return.
Ils ne devaient pas retourner en Egypte, mais Achour est devenu leur roi, car ils refusaient de s’amender.
6 And in his cities he prevailed not with the sword, and he ceased [to war] with his hands: and they shall eat [of the fruit] of their own devices:
Aussi le glaive s’abattra-t-il sur leurs villes, il en détruira les principaux habitants, dévorant tout à cause de leurs funestes résolutions.
7 and his people [shall] cleave fondly to their habitation; but God shall be angry with his precious things, and shall not at all exalt him.
Oui, mon peuple se complaît dans sa rébellion contre moi. On a beau les inviter à regarder en haut, ensemble ils refusent de s’élever.
8 How shall I deal with you, Ephraim? [how] shall I protect you, Israel? what shall I do with you? I will make you as Adama, and as Seboim; my heart is turned at once, my repentance is powerfully excited.
Comment pourrais-je te livrer, Ephraïm, te trahir, Israël? Comment te rendrais-je semblable à Admâ, te traiterais-je à l’égal de Ceboïm? Mon cœur se soulève dans mon sein, mes regrets se réveillent ensemble.
9 I will not act according to the fury of my wrath, I will not abandon Ephraim to be utterly destroyed: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One within you: and I will not enter into the city.
Je n’obéirai point à ma violente colère, je ne détruirai plus à nouveau Ephraïm; car je suis Dieu et non un mortel, le Saint qui réside au milieu de toi: je ne viendrai point armé de terreur.
10 I will go after the Lord: he shall utter [his voice] as a lion: for he shall roar, and the children of the waters shall be amazed.
Ils viendront à la voix de l’Eternel, lorsque, comme le lion, il rugira; quand il se prendra à rugir, ils accourront, ses enfants, du fond de l’Occident.
11 They shall be amazed [and fly] as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of the Assyrians: and I will restore them to their houses, says the Lord.
Ils accourront de l’Egypte comme une nuée de passereaux, et du pays d’Achour comme des colombes, et je les rétablirai solidement dans leurs demeures, dit l’Eternel.
12 Ephraim has compassed me with falsehood, and the house of Israel and Juda with ungodliness: [but] now God knows them, and they shall be called God's holy people.
Ephraïm m’a obsédé de mensonge, et de duplicité, la maison d’Israël; de même Juda, quoiqu’il prétende demeurer soumis à Dieu et attaché au Très-Saint.
