< Genesis 44 >

1 And Joseph charged the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put the money of each in the mouth of his sack.
Afei, Yosef hyɛɛ ne ɔsomfoɔ panin no sɛ, “Fa aduane dodoɔ biara a mmarima no bɛtumi asoa no hyɛ wɔn nkotokuo no ma ma, na fa obiara sika nso hyɛ ne kotokuo mu ma no.
2 And put my silver cup into the sack of the youngest, and the price of his corn. And it was done according to the word of Joseph, as he said.
Afei, fa me dwetɛ kuruwa no ka akumaa no aduane no sika ho, na fa hyɛ ne kotokuo no mu.” Na ɔsomafoɔ panin no yɛɛ sɛdeɛ Yosef kaeɛ no pɛpɛɛpɛ.
3 The morning dawned, and the men were sent away, they and their asses.
Adeɛ kyee anɔpa no, ɔgyaa anuanom no ne wɔn mfunumu no kwan.
4 And when they had gone out of the city, [and] were not far off, then Joseph said to his steward, Arise, and pursue after the men; and you shall overtake them, and say to them, Why have you returned evil for good?
Wɔannuru akyiri baabiara, na Yosef ka kyerɛɛ ne ɔsomfoɔ panin no sɛ, “Ti nkurɔfoɔ no ntɛm so, na sɛ woto wɔn a, bisa wɔn sɛ, ‘Adɛn enti na mode bɔne tua papa so ka? Adɛn enti na moawia me dwetɛ kuruwa?
5 Why have you stolen my silver cup? is it not this out of which my lord drinks? and he divines augury with it; you have accomplished evil in that which you have done.
Ɛnyɛ saa kuruwa yi a me wura nom ano na ɔhwɛ mu ka nhunumusɛm no nie? Yei yɛ bɔne kɛseɛ a moayɛ.’”
6 And he found them, and spoke to them according to these words.
Ɔkɔtoo wɔn no, ɔtii saa asɛm korɔ yi ara mu kyerɛɛ wɔn.
7 And they said to him, Why does our lord speak according to these words? far be it from your servants to do according to this word.
Nanso, anuanom no buaa no sɛ, “Adɛn enti na yɛn wura keka saa nsɛm yi? Ɛmpare wo nkoa sɛ wɔbɛyɛ adeɛ a ɛte saa!
8 If we brought back to you out of the land of Chanaan the money which we found in our sacks, how should we steal silver or gold out of the house of your lord?
Sika a yɛhunuu wɔ yɛn nkotokuo mu no, yɛansane amfa amfiri Kanaan ammrɛ mo anaa? Adɛn enti na ɛsɛ sɛ yɛwia dwetɛ anaa sikakɔkɔɔ firi wo wura fie?
9 With whoever of your servants you shall find the cup, let him die; and, moreover, we will be servants to our lord.
Sɛ wohunu saa kuruwa no wɔ wo nkoa no biara nkyɛn a, okum na ɛsɛ sɛ wokum saa onipa no. Na sɛ ɛba saa nso a, yɛn nyinaa bɛyɛ wo wura nkoa afebɔɔ.”
10 And he said, Now then it shall be as you say; with whoever the cup shall be found, he shall be my servant, and you shall be clear.
Ɔsomfoɔ no buaa sɛ, “Ɛyɛ, na deɛ ɔwiaeɛ no nko na ɔbɛyɛ mʼakoa. Na mo a moaka no bɛfa mo ho adi.”
11 And they hasted, and took down every man his sack on the ground, and they opened every man his sack.
Anuanom no nyinaa yiyii wɔn nnesoa no firii mfunumu no so, guu fam, sane sanee wɔn nkotokuo no ano.
12 And he searched, beginning from the oldest, until he came to the youngest; and he found the cup in Benjamin's sack.
Afei, ɔsomfoɔ panin no firii aseɛ, hwehwɛɛ wɔn nkotokuo no mu firi ɔpanin no so kɔsii akumaa no so. Wɔhunuu kuruwa no wɔ Benyamin kotokuo no mu.
13 And they tore their garments, and laid each man his sack on his ass, and returned to the city.
Ɛbaa saa no, anuanom no sunsuanee wɔn ntadeɛ mu. Afei, wɔn nyinaa sane hyehyɛɛ wɔn nnesoa no wɔ wɔn mfunumu no so, sanee wɔn akyiri, kɔɔ kuro no mu bio.
14 And Judas and his brethren came in to Joseph, while he was yet there, and fell on the ground before him.
Ɛberɛ a Yuda ne ne nuanom no kɔduruu kuro no mu hɔ no, na Yosef da so wɔ ne fie hɔ. Enti, wɔn nyinaa totoo wɔn ho guu fam wɔ nʼanim.
15 And Joseph said to them, What is this thing that you have done? know you not that a man such as I can surely divine?
Yosef bisaa wɔn sɛ, “Ɛdeɛn adeɛ na moayɛ yi? Monnim sɛ onipa a ɔte sɛ me nam nhunumusɛm so bɛtumi ahunu biribiara mu?”
16 And Judas said, What shall we answer to our lord, or what shall we say, or wherein should we be justified? whereas God has discovered the unrighteousness of your servants; behold, we are slaves to our lord, both we and he with whom the cup has been found.
Yuda buaa sɛ, “Anoyie bɛn na yɛbɛtumi ayi wɔ me wura anim? Asɛm bɛn na yɛwɔ ka? Yɛbɛyɛ dɛn na yɛatumi ama woahunu sɛ yɛnni saa asɛm yi ho fɔ? Onyame ada yɛn wʼasomfoɔ afɔdie yi adi. Yɛne deɛ wɔhunuu kuruwa no wɔ no nkyɛn no nyinaa yɛ yɛn wura nkoa”.
17 And Joseph said, Far be it from me to do this thing; the man with whom the cup has been found, he shall be my servant; but do you go up with safety to your father.
Nanso, Yosef kaa sɛ, “Ɛmpare me sɛ mɛyɛ adeɛ a ɛte saa. Onipa a wɔhunuu kuruwa no wɔ ne nkyɛn no nko ara na ɔbɛyɛ mʼakoa. Mo a moaka no deɛ, monsane nkɔ mo agya nkyɛn asomdwoeɛ mu.”
18 And Judas drew near him, and said, I pray, Sir, let your servant speak a word before you, and be not angry with your servant, for you are next to Pharao.
Yuda sɔre kɔɔ Yosef anim, ka kyerɛɛ no sɛ, “Ma me a meyɛ wʼakoa no ɛkwan na me ne wo, me wura, nkasa. Ɛwom sɛ, wo ne Farao yɛ pɛ deɛ, nanso mesrɛ wo, nya aboterɛ ma wo ɔsomfoɔ.
19 Sir, you asked your servants, saying, Have you a father or a brother?
Me wura bisaa nʼasomfoɔ no sɛ, ‘Mowɔ agya anaa onuabarima bi?’
20 And we said to [my] lord, We have a father, an old man, and he has a son of his old age, a young one, and his brother is dead, and he alone has been left behind to his mother, and his father loves him.
Na yɛbuaa sɛ, ‘Yɛwɔ agya a wabɔ akɔkoraa ne yɛn kaakyire a ɔwoo no ne nkɔkoraaberɛ mu. Ne nuabarima a ɔka ne ho no awu. Na ɔno nko ara ne ne maame ba a waka. Nʼagya pɛ nʼasɛm yie.’
21 And you said to they servants, Bring him down to me, and I will take care of him.
“Na ɔka kyerɛɛ wʼasomfoɔ sɛ, ‘Momfa no mmra, na menhwɛ no.’
22 And we said to [my] lord, The child will not be able to leave his father; but if he should leave his father, he will die.
Yɛka kyerɛɛ me wura sɛ, ‘Abarimaa no rentumi nte ne ho mfiri nʼagya ho. Na sɛ ɛba sɛ ɔte ne ho firi nʼagya ho a, nʼagya no bɛwu.’
23 But you said to they servants, Except your younger brother come down with you, you shall not see my face again.
Ɛnna woka kyerɛɛ wʼasomfoɔ sɛ. ‘Sɛ moamfa mo nua kumaa no anka mo ho amma a, monnsi mʼanim bio.’
24 And it came to pass, when we went up to your servant our father, we reported to him the words of our lord.
Yɛsane kɔɔ wʼakoa, yɛn agya nkyɛn no, yɛkaa wo a woyɛ yɛn wura no nsɛm a woka kyerɛɛ yɛn no nyinaa kyerɛɛ no.
25 And our father said, Go again, and buy us a little food.
“Ɛnna yɛn agya kaa sɛ, ‘Monsane nkɔ bio nkɔtɔ aduane kakra mmra.’
26 And we said, We shall not be able to go down; but if our younger brother go down with us, we will go down; for we shall not be able to see the man's face, our younger brother not being with us.
Nanso, yɛka kyerɛɛ yɛn agya sɛ, ‘Yɛrentumi nkɔ, gye sɛ yɛn nua kumaa no ka yɛn ho. Sɛ yɛamfa yɛn nua kumaa no anka yɛn ho ankɔ a, yɛrentumi nkɔ owura no anim.’
27 And your servant our father said to us, You know that my wife bore me two [sons];
“Afei, wo ɔsomfoɔ, yɛn agya ka kyerɛɛ yɛn sɛ, ‘Monim sɛ me ne me yere woo mmammarima baanu.
28 and one is departed from me; and you said that he was devoured of wild beasts, and I have not seen him until now.
Wɔn mu baako firii me nkyɛn kɔeɛ a, manhunu no bio, ma mekaa sɛ, “Aboa bi atete no pasaa.” Ɛfiri saa ɛberɛ no, menhunuu no bio.
29 If then you take this one also from my presence, and an affliction happen to him by the way, then shall you bring down my old age with sorrow to the grave. (Sheol h7585)
Sɛ mofa yei firi me nkyɛn, na asiane bi kɔsiane no wɔ ɛkwan so a, me nso, mede awerɛhoɔ bɛwu bi.’ (Sheol h7585)
30 Now then, if I should go in to they servant, and our father, and the boy should not be with us, (and his life depends on this [lad's] life)
“Enti, saa ɛberɛ yi, sɛ yɛkɔpue firi wʼakoa, yɛn agya, anim na abɔfra yi nka yɛn ho a, ɛnneɛ, sɛdeɛ nʼakoma da abɔfra no ho fa no,
31 —it shall even come to pass, when he sees the boy is not with us, [that] he will die, and your servants will bring down the old age of your servant, and our father, with sorrow to the grave. (Sheol h7585)
sɛ ɔhunu sɛ abɔfra no nka yɛn ho a, ɔbɛwu. Wo nkoa bɛma wɔn agya adi awerɛhoɔ, de ne tiri so dwono akɔ asaman. (Sheol h7585)
32 For your servant has received the boy [in charge] from his father, saying, If I bring him not to you, and place him before you, I shall be guilty towards my father for ever.
Wʼakoa a ɔde ne ho dii abɔfra no agyinamu sɛ ɔde no bɛba kaa sɛ, ‘Sɛ mamfa no ansane ammrɛ wo a, ɛho asodie no mmɛda me so, me nkwanna nyinaa.’
33 Now then I will remain a servant with you instead of the lad, a domestic of my lord; but let the lad go up with his brethren.
“Afei, mesrɛ wo, ma wʼakoa nsi abɔfra no ananmu wɔ ha, na ma abɔfra no ne ne nuammarima no nsane nkɔ.
34 For how shall I go up to my father, the lad not being with us? lest I behold the evils which will befall my father.
Na sɛ abɔfra no anka me ho ankɔ a, mɛyɛ dɛn makɔpue mʼagya anim. Dabi! Merentumi nnyina ahohiahia a ɛbɛto mʼagya wɔ saa asɛm yi ho no ano.”
