< Exodus 31 >
1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
Then Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2 Behold, I have called by name Beseleel the son of Urias the son of Or, of the tribe of Juda.
“See, I have called by name Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur, from the tribe of Judah.
3 And I have filled him [with] a divine spirit of wisdom, and understanding, and knowledge, to invent in every work,
I have filled Bezalel with my Spirit, to give him wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, for all kinds of craftsmanship,
4 and to frame works, to labour in gold, and silver, and brass, and blue, and purple, and spun scarlet,
to make artistic designs and to work in gold, silver, and bronze;
5 and works in stone, and for artificers' work in wood, to work at all works.
also to cut and set stones and to carve wood—to do all kinds of craftsmanship.
6 And I have appointed him and Eliab the [son] of Achisamach of the tribe of Dan, and to every one understanding in heart I have given understanding; and they shall make all things as many as I have appointed you, —
In addition to him, I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamak, from the tribe of Dan. I have put skill into the hearts of all who are wise so that they may make all that I have commanded you. This includes
7 the tabernacle of witness, and the ark of the covenant, and the propitiatory that is upon it, and the furniture of the tabernacle,
the tent of meeting, the ark of the testimony, the atonement lid on the ark, and all the furniture of the tent—
8 and the altars, and the table and all its furniture,
the table and its utensils, the pure lampstand with all its equipment, the incense altar,
9 and the pure candlestick and all its furniture, and the laver and its base,
the altar for burnt offerings with all its equipment, and the large basin with its base.
10 and Aaron's robes of ministry, and the robes of his sons to minister to me as priests,
This also includes the finely-woven garments—the holy garments for Aaron the priest and those of his sons, reserved for me so that they may serve as priests.
11 and the anointing oil and the compound incense of the sanctuary; according to all that I have commanded you shall they make them.
This also includes the anointing oil and the sweet incense for the holy place. These craftsmen must make all these things just as I have commanded you.”
12 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
Then Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
13 Do you also charge the children of Israel, saying, Take heed and keep my sabbaths; [for] they are a sign with me and amongst you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord that sanctifies you.
“Tell the Israelites: 'You must certainly keep Yahweh's Sabbath days, for these will be a sign between him and you throughout your people's generations so that you may know that he is Yahweh, who sets you apart for himself.
14 And you shall keep the sabbaths, because this is holy to the Lord for you; he that profanes it shall surely be put to death: every one who shall do a work on it, that soul shall be destroyed from the midst of his people.
So you must keep the Sabbath, for it must be treated by you as holy, reserved for him. Everyone who defiles it must surely be put to death. Whoever works on the Sabbath, that person must surely be cut off from his people.
15 Six days you shall do works, but the seventh day is the sabbath, a holy rest to the Lord; every one who shall do a work on the seventh day shall be put to death.
Work will be done for six days, but the seventh day is to be a Sabbath of complete rest, holy before Yahweh. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must surely be put to death.
16 And the children of Israel shall keep the sabbaths, to observe them throughout their generations.
Therefore the Israelites must keep the Sabbath. They must observe it throughout their people's generations as a permanent law.
17 It is a perpetual covenant with me and the children of Israel, it is a perpetual sign with me; for in six days the Lord made the heaven and the earth, and on the seventh day he ceased, and rested.
The Sabbath will always be a sign between Yahweh and the Israelites, for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.'”
18 And he gave to Moses when he left off speaking to him in mount Sina the two tables of testimony, tables of stone written [upon] with the finger of God.
When God had finished talking with Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him two tablets of covenant decrees, made of stone, written on by his own hand.
