Kings II 17
1 And Achitophel said to Abessalom, Let me now choose out for myself twelve thousand men, and I will arise and follow after David this night:
Après cela Achithophel dit à Absalom: Je choisirai maintenant douze mille hommes, et je me lèverai, et je poursuivrai David cette nuit.
2 and I will come upon him when he [is] weary and weak-handed, and I will strike him with terror; and all the people with him shall flee, and I will strike the king only of all.
Et je me jetterai sur lui; il est fatigué, et ses mains sont affaiblies, et je l'épouvanterai, tellement que tout le peuple qui est avec lui, s'enfuira, et je frapperai le Roi seulement.
3 And I will bring back all the people to you, as a bride returns to her husband: only you seek the life of one man, and all the people shall have peace.
Et je ferai que tout le peuple retournera à toi; [car] l'homme que tu cherches vaut autant que si tous retournaient à toi; [ainsi] tout le peuple sera sain et sauf.
4 And the saying [was] right in the eyes of Abessalom, and in the eyes of all the elders of Israel.
Cet avis fut trouvé bon par Absalom, et par tous les Anciens d'Israël.
5 And Abessalom said, Call now also Chusi the Arachite, and let us hear what [is] in his mouth, even in his also.
Mais Absalom dit: Qu'on appelle maintenant aussi Cusaï Arkite, et que nous entendions aussi son avis.
6 And Chusi went in to Abessalom, and Abessalom spoke to him, saying, After this manner spoke Achitophel: shall we do according to his word? but if not, do you speak.
Or quand Cusaï fut venu vers Absalom, Absalom lui dit: Achithophel a donné un tel avis; ferons-nous ce qu'il a dit, ou non? Parle, toi.
7 And Chusi said to Abessalom, This counsel which Achitophel has counselled this one time [is] not good.
Alors Cusaï dit à Absalom: Le conseil qu'Achithophel a donné maintenant, n'est pas bon.
8 And Chusi said, You know your father and his men, that they are very mighty, and bitter in their spirit, as a bereaved bear in the field, [and as a wild boar in the plain]: and your father [is] a man of war, and will not give the people rest.
Cusaï dit encore: Tu connais ton père et ses gens, que se sont des gens forts, et qui ont le cœur outré, comme une ourse des champs à qui on a pris ses petits; et ton père est un homme de guerre, qui ne passera point la nuit avec le peuple.
9 For, behold, he is now hidden in one of the hills or in some [other] place: and it shall come to pass when he falls upon them at the beginning, that [some one] will certainly hear, and say, There has been a slaughter amongst the people that follow after Abessalom.
Voici, il est maintenant caché dans quelque fosse, ou dans quelque autre lieu; s'il arrive qu'au commencement on soit battu par eux, quiconque en entendra parler, l'ayant su, dira: Le peuple qui suit Absalom a été défait.
10 Then even he [that is] strong, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, —it shall utterly melt: for all Israel knows that your father [is] mighty, and they that are with him [are] mighty men.
Alors le plus vaillant, celui-là même qui avait le cœur comme un lion, se fondra; car tout Israël sait que ton père est un homme de cœur, et que ceux qui sont avec lui sont vaillants.
11 For thus I have surely given counsel, that all Israel be generally gathered to you from Dan even to Bersabee, as the sand that is upon the sea-shore for multitude: and that your presence go in the midst of them.
Mais je suis d'avis qu'en diligence on assemble vers toi tout Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersébah, lequel sera en grand nombre comme le sable qui est sur le bord de la mer, et que toi-même en personne marches en bataille.
12 And we will come upon him in one of the places where we shall find him, and we will encamp against him, as the dew falls upon the earth; and we will not leave of him and of his men so much as one.
Alors nous viendrons à lui en quelque lieu que nous le trouvions, et nous nous jetterons sur lui, comme la rosée tombe sur la terre, et il ne lui restera aucun de tous les hommes qui sont avec lui.
13 And if he shall have taken refuge with his army in a city, then shall all Israel take ropes to that city, and we will draw it even into the river, that there may not be left there even a stone.
Que s'il se retire en quelque ville, tout Israël portera des cordes vers cette ville-là, et nous la traînerons jusques dans le torrent, en sorte qu'il ne s'en trouvera pas même une petite pierre.
14 And Abessalom, and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Chusi the Arachite [is] better than the counsel of Achitophel. For the Lord ordained to disconcert the good counsel of Achitophel, that the Lord might bring all evil upon Abessalom.
Alors Absalom et tous les hommes d'Israël dirent: Le conseil de Cusaï Arkite est meilleur que le conseil d'Achithophel; car l'Eternel avait décrété que le conseil d'Achithophel, qui était le plus utile [pour Absalom], fût dissipé, afin de faire venir le mal sur Absalom.
15 And Chusi the Arachite said to Sadoc and Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus Achitophel counselled Abessalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.
Alors Cusaï dit aux Sacrificateurs Tsadok et Abiathar: Achithophel a donné tel et tel conseil à Absalom, et aux Anciens d'Israël, mais moi j'ai donné tel et tel conseil.
16 And now send quickly and report to David, saying, Lodge not this night in Araboth of the wilderness: even go and make haste, lest [one] swallow up the king, and all the people with him.
Maintenant donc envoyez en diligence, et faites savoir à David, et lui dites: Ne demeure point cette nuit dans les campagnes du désert, et même ne manque point de passer plus avant, de peur que le Roi ne soit englouti, et tout le peuple aussi qui est avec lui.
17 And Jonathan and Achimaas stood by the well of Rogel, and a maidservant went and reported to them, and they go and tell king David; for they might not be seen to enter into the city.
Or Jonathan et Ahimahats se tenaient près de la fontaine de Roguel; parce qu'ils n'osaient pas se montrer lorsqu'ils venaient dans la ville, et une servante leur alla rapporter [le tout], afin qu'ils s'en allassent, et le rapportassent au Roi David.
18 But a young man saw them and told Abessalom: and the two went quickly, and entered into the house of a man in Baurim; and he had a well in his court, and they went down into it.
Mais un garçon les aperçut, qui le rapporta à Absalom; et ils marchèrent tous deux en diligence et vinrent à Bahurim, en la maison d'un homme qui avait en sa cour un puits, dans lequel ils descendirent.
19 And a woman took a covering, and spread it over the mouth of the well, and spread out ground corn upon it to dry, and the thing was not known.
Et la femme [de cet homme] prit une couverture, et l'étendit sur l'ouverture du puits, et répandit sur elle du grain pilé, et la chose ne fut point découverte.
20 And the servants of Abessalom came to the woman into the house, and said, Where [are] Achimaas and Jonathan? and the woman said to them, They are gone a little way beyond the water. And they sought and found them not, and returned to Jerusalem.
Car les serviteurs d'Absalom vinrent vers cette femme jusque dans la maison, et lui dirent: Où sont Ahimahats et Jonathan? Et la femme leur répondit: Ils ont passé le gué de l'eau. Les ayant donc cherchés, et ne les ayant point trouvés, ils s'en retournèrent à Jérusalem.
21 And it came to pass after they were gone, that they came up out of the pit, and went on their way; and reported to king David, and said to David, Arise you and go quickly over the water, for thus has Achitophel counselled concerning you.
Et après qu'ils s'en furent allés, [Ahimahats et Jonathan] remontèrent du puits, et s'en allèrent, et firent leur rapport au Roi David, en lui disant: Levez-vous, et passez l'eau en diligence, car Achithophel a donné un tel conseil contre vous.
22 And David rose up and all the people with him, and they passed over Jordan till the morning light; there was not one missing who did not pass over Jordan.
Alors David se leva, et tout le peuple qui était avec lui, et ils passèrent le Jourdain jusqu'au point du jour; il n'y en eut pas un qui ne passât le Jourdain.
23 And Achitophel saw that his counsel was not followed, and he saddled his ass, and rose and departed to his house into his city; and he gave orders to his household, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
Or Achithophel voyant qu'on n'avait point fait ce qu'il avait conseillé, fit seller son âne, et se leva, et s'en alla en sa maison, dans sa ville: et après qu'il eut disposé [des affaires] de sa maison, il s'étrangla, et mourut, [et] il fut enseveli au sépulcre de son père.
24 And David passed over to Manaim: and Abessalom crossed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
Et David s'en vint à Mahanajim: et Absalom passa le Jourdain, lui et tous ceux d'Israël qui étaient avec lui.
25 And Abessalom appointed Amessai in the room of Joab over the host. And Amessai was the son of a man whose name was Jether of Jezrael: he went in to Abigaia the daughter of Naas, the sister of Saruia the mother of Joab.
Et Absalom établit Hamasa sur l'armée, en la place de Joab. Or Hamasa était fils d'un homme nommé Jithra, Israélite, qui était entré vers Abigal fille de Nahas, sœur de Tséruja, la mère de Joab.
26 And all Israel and Abessalom encamped in the land of Galaad.
Et Israël avec Absalom se campa au pays de Galaad.
27 And it came to pass when David came to Manaim, that Uesbi the son of Naas of Rabbath of the sons of Ammon, and Machir son of Amiel of Lodabar, and Berzelli the Galaadite of Rogellim,
Or il arriva qu'aussitôt que David fut arrivé à Mahanajim, Sobi fils de Nahas de Rabba, [laquelle avait été] aux enfants de Hammon, et Makir fils de Hammiel de Lodebar, et Barzillaï Galaadite de Roguelim,
28 brought ten embroidered beds, (with double coverings, ) and ten cauldrons, and earthenware, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and meal, and beans, and pulse,
[Amenèrent] des lits, des bassins, des vaisseaux de terre, du froment, de l'orge, de la farine, du grain rôti, des fèves, des lentilles, et des grains rôtis;
29 and honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheeses of kine: and they brought them to David and to his people with him to eat; for [one] said, The people [is] faint and hungry and thirsty in the wilderness.
Du miel, du beurre, des brebis, et des fromages de vache; ils les amenèrent, [dis-je], à David, et au peuple qui était avec lui, afin qu'ils [en] mangeassent; car ils disaient: Ce peuple est affamé, et il est las, et il a soif dans ce désert.
