Chronicles II 23

1 And in the eighth year Jodae strengthened [himself], and took the captains of hundreds, Azarias the son of Joram, and Ismael the son of Joanan, and Azarias the son of Obed, and Maasaeas the son of Adia, and Elisaphan the son of Zacharias, with him to the house of the Lord.

در هفتمین سال سلطنت عتلیا، یهویاداع کاهن برخی از فرماندهان سپاه را احضار کرده نقشه‌ای را که داشت با آنها در میان گذاشت. این فرماندهان عبارت بودند از: عزریا (پسر یهورام)، اسماعیل (پسر یهوحانان)، عزریا (پسر عوبید)، معسیا (پسر عدایا) و الیشافاط (پسر زکری).

2 And they went round about Juda, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Juda, and heads of the families of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

ایشان مخفیانه به سراسر یهودا سفر کردند تا لاویان و سران قبایل را از نقشهٔ یهویاداع باخبر سازند و آنها را به اورشلیم احضار کنند. وقتی همه به اورشلیم آمدند برای پادشاه جوان که هنوز در خانهٔ خدا مخفی بود، قسم خوردند که نسبت به وی وفادار باشند. یهویاداع کاهن گفت: «وقت آن رسیده که پادشاه زمام امور مملکت را در دست بگیرد، و این طبق وعدهٔ خداوند است که فرمود:”همیشه یکی از فرزندان داوود باید پادشاه باشد.“

3 and all the congregation of Juda made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he showed them the king's son, and said to them, Behold, let the king's son reign, as the Lord said concerning the house of David.

4 Now this [is] the thing which you shall do. Let a third part of you, [even] of the priests and of the Levites, enter in on the sabbath, even into the gates of the entrances;

حالا کاری که باید بکنیم این است: یک سوم شما لاویان و کاهنان که روز شَبّات سر پست می‌آیید دم در خانهٔ خدا نگهبانی بدهید.

5 and let a third part be in the house of the king; and another third at the middle gate: and all the people in the courts of the Lord's house.

یک سوم دیگر در کاخ سلطنتی، و بقیه جلوی”دروازهٔ اساس“نگهبانی بدهید. بقیهٔ قوم طبق دستور خداوند در حیاط خانهٔ خداوند بایستند. زیرا فقط لاویان و کاهنان که مشغول خدمت هستند می‌توانند وارد خانهٔ خداوند شوند، چون پاک هستند.

6 And let not [any one] enter into the house of the Lord, except the priests and the Levites, and the servants of the Levites; they shall enter in, because they are holy: and let all the people keep the watch of the Lord.

7 And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man's weapon in his hand; and whoever [else] goes into the house shall die: but they shall be with the king when he goes out, and when he comes in.

شما لاویان اسلحه به دست بگیرید و پادشاه را احاطه کنید و هر جا می‌رود از او محافظت نمایید. هر که خواست وارد خانهٔ خدا شود، او را بکشید.»

8 And the Levites and all Juda did according to all that the priest Jodae commanded them, and they took each his men from the beginning of the sabbath to the end of the sabbath, for Jodae the priest did not dismiss the courses.

لاویان و مردم یهودا مطابق دستورهای یهویاداع عمل کردند. نگهبانانی که روز شَبّات سر خدمت می‌رفتند و نیز نگهبانانی که در آن روز سر خدمت نبودند، همگی سر پست خود ماندند، زیرا یهویاداع آنها را مرخص نکرد.

9 And Jodae gave to the men the swords, and the shields, and the arms, which [had] belonged to King David, in the house of God.

سپس یهویاداع آنها را با نیزه‌ها و سپرهای خانهٔ خدا که متعلق به داوود پادشاه بود، مسلح کرد.

10 And he set the whole people, every man with his arms, from the right side of the house to the left side of the altar and the house, over against the king round about.

سپس تمام قوم را اطراف پادشاه مستقر ساخت. آنها صفی تشکیل دادند که از ضلع جنوبی معبد تا ضلع شمالی و دورتادور مذبح کشیده می‌شد.

11 And he brought out the king's son, and put on him the crown and the testimony, and Jodae the priest and his sons proclaimed him king, and anointed him, and said, Long live the king!

آنگاه یهویاداع و پسرانش یوآش را بیرون آورده، تاج شاهی را بر سرش نهادند و نسخه‌ای از تورات را به او دادند و او را تدهین کرده، به پادشاهی منصوب نمودند. سپس همه فریاد برآوردند: «زنده باد پادشاه!»

12 And Gotholia heard the sound of the people running, and acknowledging and praising the king: and she went in to the king into the house of the Lord.

ملکه عتلیا وقتی فریاد شادی مردم را شنید، با عجله به طرف خانهٔ خداوند که مردم در آنجا جمع شده بودند، دوید.

13 And she looked, and, behold, the king [stood] in his place, and the princes and trumpets were at the entrance, and the princes were round the king: and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded the trumpets, and there were the singers singing with instruments, and singing hymns of praise. and Gotholia tore her robe, and cried, you surely are plotting against [me].

در آنجا پادشاه جدید را دید که کنار ستون مخصوص پادشاهان نزد مدخل ایستاده و فرماندهان و شیپورچی‌ها دور او را گرفته‌اند و شیپور می‌زنند و همه شادی می‌کنند و دستهٔ سرایندگان همراه نوازندگان، قوم را در خواندن سرود رهبری می‌کنند. عتلیا با دیدن این منظره لباس خود را پاره کرد و فریاد برآورد: «خیانت! خیانت!»

14 And Jodae the priest went forth, and Jodae the priest charged the captains of hundreds, even the captains of the host, and said to them, Thrust her forth outside the house, and follow her, and let her be slain with the sword. For the priest said, Let her not be slain in the house of the Lord.

یهویاداع به فرماندهان چنین دستور داد: «او را از اینجا بیرون ببرید. در خانهٔ خداوند او را نکشید. اگر کسی سعی کند عتلیا را نجات دهد باید بی‌درنگ کشته شود.»

15 So they let her go [out]; and she went through the horsemen's gate of the house of the king, and they killed her there.

پس وقتی عتلیا به یکی از دروازه‌های کاخ به نام «دروازهٔ اسب» رسید، همان جا او را کشتند.

16 And Jodae made a covenant between himself, and the people, and the king, that the people should be the Lord's.

بعد یهویاداع عهد بست که خود و پادشاه و مردم، قوم خداوند باشند.

17 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and tore down it and its altars, and they ground his images to powder, and they killed Matthan the priest of Baal before his altars.

آنگاه همه به بتخانهٔ بعل رفتند و آن را واژگون ساختند و مذبحها و مجسمه‌ها را خراب کردند و متان، کاهن بت بعل را در مقابل مذبحها کشتند.

18 And Jodae the priest committed the works of the house of the Lord into the and of the priests and Levites, and he re-established the courses of the priests and Levites which David appointed over the house of the Lord, and [he appointed them] to offer whole burnt offerings to the Lord, as it is written in the law of Moses, with gladness, and with songs by the hand of David.

سپس یهویاداع، کاهنان و لاویان را در خانهٔ خداوند گذاشت تا وظایفی را که داوود پادشاه تعیین کرده بود، انجام دهند و طبق دستورهای تورات موسی برای خداوند قربانیهای سوختنی تقدیم کنند. آنها با شادی و سرور وظیفهٔ خود را انجام می‌دادند.

19 And the porters stood at the gates of the house of the Lord, that no one unclean in any respect should enter in.

یهویاداع نگهبانانی جلوی دروازه‌های خانهٔ خداوند گماشت تا نگذارند افرادی که نجس هستند داخل شوند.

20 And he took the heads of families, and the mighty men, and the chiefs of the people, and all the people of the land, and they conducted the king into the house of the Lord; and he went through the inner gate into the king's house, and they seated the king on the throne of the kingdom.

سپس فرماندهان سپاه، مقامات و رهبران مملکتی و تمام قوم، یهویاداع را همراهی کردند تا پادشاه را از خانهٔ خداوند به کاخ سلطنتی بیاورند. آنها از «دروازهٔ بالایی» وارد کاخ شدند و یوآش را بر تخت سلطنت نشاندند.

21 And all the people of the land rejoiced; and the city was quiet: and they killed Gotholia.

همهٔ مردم از این موضوع خوشحال بودند. بعد از مرگ عتلیا، در شهر آرامش برقرار گردید.
