Chronicles II 10
1 And Roboam came to Sychem: for all Israel came to Sychem to make him king.
Fue Roboam a Siquem; porque todo Israel había concurrido a Siquem para proclamarle rey.
2 And it came to pass when Jeroboam the son of Nabat heard [it], (now he was in Egypt, forasmuch as he had fled there from the face of king Solomon, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt, ) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
Cuando lo supo Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, que estaba en Egipto, adonde había huido de la presencia del rey Salomón,
3 And they sent and called him: and Jeroboam and all the congregation came to Roboam, saying,
volvió de Egipto, pues habían enviado a llamarle. Vino entonces Jeroboam con todo Israel, y hablaron con Roboam, diciendo:
4 Your father made our yoke grievous: now then abate [somewhat] of your father's grievous rule, and of his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve you.
“Tu padre hizo duro nuestro yugo; ahora alivia tú la dura servidumbre de tu padre y su yugo pesado que nos impuso, y te serviremos.”
5 And he said to them, Go away for three days, and [then] come to me. So the people departed.
Él les contestó: “Volved a mí de aquí a tres días.” Y el pueblo se fue.
6 And king Roboam assembled the elders that stood before his father Solomon in his life-time, saying, How do you counsel [me] to return an answer to this people?
Luego consultó el rey Roboam a los ancianos, que habían servido a Salomón, mientras vivía, y les preguntó: “¿Qué me aconsejáis que responda a este pueblo?”
7 And they spoke to him, saying, If you would this day befriend this people, and be kind to them, and speak to them good words, then will they be your servants for ever.
Le contestaron, diciendo: “Si eres bueno con este pueblo y condesciendes con ellos y les diriges palabras amables, serán siervos tuyos perpetuamente.”
8 But he forsook the advice of the old men, who took counsel with him, and he took counsel with the young men who had been brought up with him, who stood before him.
Pero él dejó el consejo que los ancianos le dieron y consultó a los jóvenes que se habían criado con él y formaban su corte.
9 And he said to them, What do you advise that I should answer this people, who spoke to me, saying, Ease [somewhat] of the yoke which your father laid upon us?
Les dijo: “¿Qué aconsejáis vosotros que responda a este pueblo, que me ha hablado, diciendo: «Alivia el yugo que nos impuso tu padre»?”
10 And the young men that had been brought up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you speak to the people that spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, and do you lighten [somewhat of it] from us; thus shall you say, My little finger [shall be] thicker than my father's loins.
Le contestaron los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, diciendo: “Al pueblo que te dijo: Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo, aligéranoslo tú, le responderás en estos términos: «Mi dedo meñique es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre.
11 And whereas my father chastised you with a heavy yoke, I will also add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, and I will chastise you with scorpions.
Mi padre os impuso un yugo pesado, pero yo lo agravaré todavía más; mi padre os azotó con látigos, mas yo lo haré con escorpiones».”
12 And Jeroboam and all the people came to Roboam on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, Return to me on the third day.
VoIvieron Jeroboam y todo el pueblo al tercer día a Roboam, como el rey había mandado, diciendo: “Volved a mí al tercer día”;
13 And the king answered harshly; and king Roboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
pero el rey, dejando el consejo de los ancianos, les respondió con dureza,
14 and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
y siguiendo el consejo de los jóvenes, dijo: “Mi padre agravó vuestro yugo, pero yo lo agravaré todavía más; mi padre os azotó con látigos, mas yo lo haré con escorpiones.”
15 And the king listened not to the people, for there was a change [of their minds] from God, saying, The Lord has confirmed his word, which he spoke by the hand of Achia the Selonite concerning Jeroboam the son of Nabat, and [concerning] all Israel;
Y no escuchó el rey al pueblo, pues esto sucedió por voluntad de Dios para cumplir la palabra que Yahvé había dicho por boca de Ahías silonita a Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat.
16 for the king did not listen to them. And the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David, or inheritance in the son of Jessae? to your tents, O Israel: now see to your own house, David. So all Israel went to their tents.
Viendo todo Israel que el rey no los escuchaba, el pueblo dio al rey la siguiente respuesta: “¿Qué tenemos nosotros que ver con David? ¿Cuál es nuestra herencia con el hijo de Isaí? ¡Cada uno a su tienda, oh Israel! ¡Y tú, David, mira por tu propia casa!” Y todo Israel se retiró a sus tiendas.
17 But the men of Israel, even those who lived in the cities of Juda, [remained] and made Roboam king over them.
De manera que Roboam reinó (solamente) sobre cuántos de los hijos de Israel habitaban en las ciudades de Judá.
18 And king Roboam sent to them Adoniram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, and he died. And king Roboam hasted to mount [his] chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
Después envió el rey Roboam a Hadoram, prefecto de los tributos, al cual los hijos de Israel mataron a pedradas. Entonces el rey Roboam se apresuró a subir a su carro, y huyó a Jerusalén.
19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David until this day.
Así se separó Israel de la casa de David hasta el día de hoy.
