Kings I 28
1 And it came to pass in those days that the Philistines gathered themselves together with their armies to go out to fight with Israel; and Anchus said to David, Know surely, that you shall go forth to battle with me, [you], and your men.
En ces jours-là, les Philistins rassemblèrent leurs armées pour faire la guerre, afin de combattre Israël. Akish dit à David: « Sache que tu partiras avec moi dans l'armée, toi et tes hommes. »
2 And David said to Anchus, Thus now you shall know what your servant will do. And Anchus said to David, So will I make you captain of my body-guard continually.
David dit à Akish: « Tu sauras donc ce que ton serviteur peut faire. » Achille dit à David: « Je ferai de toi mon garde du corps pour toujours. »
3 And Samuel died, and all Israel lamented for him, and they bury him in his city, in Armathaim. And Saul had removed those who had in them divining spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.
Or Samuel était mort, et tout Israël avait porté son deuil et l'avait enterré à Rama, dans sa propre ville. Saül avait chassé du pays ceux qui avaient des esprits familiers et les sorciers.
4 And the Philistines assemble themselves, and come and encamp in Sonam: and Saul gathers all the men of Israel, and they encamp in Gelbue.
Les Philistins se rassemblèrent, et vinrent camper à Sunem. Saül rassembla tout Israël, et ils campèrent à Guilboa.
5 And Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, and he was alarmed, and his heart was greatly dismayed.
Lorsque Saül vit l'armée des Philistins, il eut peur, et son cœur trembla beaucoup.
6 And Saul enquired of the Lord; and the Lord answered him not by dreams, nor by manifestations, nor by prophets.
Saül consulta Yahvé, et Yahvé ne lui répondit ni par des songes, ni par l'urim, ni par des prophètes.
7 Then Saul said to his servants, Seek for me a woman who has in her a divining spirit, and I will go to her, and enquire of her: and his servants said to him, Behold, [there is] a woman who has in her a divining spirit at Aendor.
Alors Saül dit à ses serviteurs: « Cherche-moi une femme qui a un esprit familier, afin que j'aille la voir et que je la consulte. » Ses serviteurs lui dirent: « Voici une femme qui a un esprit familier à Endor. »
8 And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he goes, and two men with him, and they come to the woman by night; and he said to her, Divine to me, I pray you, by the divining spirit within you, and bring up to me him whom I shall name to you.
Saül se déguisa, mit d'autres vêtements et partit, lui et deux hommes avec lui, et ils arrivèrent de nuit chez la femme. Il dit: « Je te prie de consulter pour moi l'esprit familier, et de me faire monter celui que je te nommerai. »
9 And the woman said to him, Behold now, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off those who had in them divining spirits, and the wizards from the land, and why do you spread a snare for my life to destroy it?
La femme lui dit: « Voici, tu sais ce que Saül a fait, comment il a exterminé du pays ceux qui ont des esprits familiers et les sorciers. Pourquoi donc tends-tu un piège à ma vie, pour me faire mourir? »
10 And Saul swore to her, and said, [As] the Lord lives, no injury shall come upon you on this account.
Saül lui jura par l'Éternel: « L'Éternel est vivant! Tu ne seras pas punie pour cette affaire. »
11 And the woman said, Whom shall I bring up to you? and he said, Bring up to me Samuel.
Alors la femme dit: « Qui dois-je te faire monter? » Il a dit: « Faites monter Samuel pour moi. »
12 And the woman saw Samuel, and cried out with a loud voice: and the woman said to Saul, Why have you deceived me? for you are Saul.
Lorsque la femme vit Samuel, elle poussa un grand cri. La femme s'adressa à Saül en disant: « Pourquoi m'as-tu trompée? Car tu es Saül! »
13 And the king said to her, Fear not; tell me whom you has seen. And the woman said to him, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.
Le roi lui dit: « N'aie pas peur! Que vois-tu? » La femme dit à Saul: « Je vois un dieu qui sort de la terre. »
14 And he said to her, What did you perceive? and she said to him, An upright man ascending out of the earth, and he [was] clothed with a mantle. And Saul knew that this was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the earth, and did obeisance to him.
Il lui dit: « A quoi ressemble-t-il? » Elle dit: « Un vieil homme arrive. Il est couvert d'une robe. » Saül comprit qu'il s'agissait de Samuel, et il s'inclina, le visage contre terre, en signe de respect.
15 And Samuel said, Why have you troubled me, that I should come up? And Saul said, I am greatly distressed, and the Philistines war against me, and God has departed from me, and no longer hearkens to me either by the hand of the prophets or by dreams: and now I have called you to tell me what I shall do.
Samuel dit à Saül: « Pourquoi m'as-tu dérangé, pour me faire monter? » Saül répondit: « Je suis très angoissé, car les Philistins me font la guerre, et Dieu s'est éloigné de moi, il ne me répond plus, ni par des prophètes, ni par des songes. C'est pourquoi je t'ai appelé, afin que tu me fasses connaître ce que je dois faire. »
16 And Samuel said, Why asked you me, whereas the Lord has departed from you, and taken part with your neighbour?
Samuel répondit: « Pourquoi donc m'interroges-tu, puisque l'Éternel s'est éloigné de toi et qu'il est devenu ton adversaire?
17 And the Lord has done to you, as the Lord spoke by me; and the Lord will rend your kingdom out of your hand, and will give it to your neighbour David.
L'Éternel t'a fait ce qu'il avait dit par moi. Yahvé a arraché le royaume de ta main et l'a donné à ton prochain, à David.
18 because you did not listen to the voice of the Lord, and did not execute his fierce anger upon Amalec, therefore the Lord has done this thing to you this day.
C'est parce que tu n'as pas écouté la voix de l'Éternel et que tu n'as pas exécuté son ardente colère contre Amalek, que l'Éternel t'a fait cela aujourd'hui.
19 And the Lord shall deliver Israel with you into the hands of the Philistines, and to-morrow you and your sons with you shall fall, and the Lord shall deliver the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines.
De plus, l'Éternel livrera Israël avec toi entre les mains des Philistins, et demain, toi et tes fils serez avec moi. L'Éternel livrera aussi l'armée d'Israël entre les mains des Philistins. »
20 And Saul instantly fell at his full length upon the earth, and was greatly afraid because of the words of Samuel; and there was no longer any strength in him, for he had eaten no bread all that day, and all that night.
Et Saül tomba immédiatement de tout son long sur la terre et fut terrifié, à cause des paroles de Samuel. Il n'avait plus de force en lui, car il n'avait mangé aucun pain de tout le jour ni de toute la nuit.
21 And the woman went in to Saul, and saw that he was greatly disquieted, and said to him, Behold now, your handmaid has listened to your voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have heard the words which you has spoken to me.
La femme s'approcha de Saül, vit qu'il était très troublé et lui dit: « Voici que ton serviteur a écouté ta voix, et moi, j'ai mis ma vie en jeu, et j'ai écouté les paroles que tu m'as dites.
22 And now listen, I pray you, to the voice of your handmaid, and I will set before you a morsel of bread, and eat, and you shall be strengthened, for you will be going on your way.
Maintenant, écoute aussi la voix de ton serviteur, et laisse-moi mettre devant toi un morceau de pain. Mange, afin que tu aies des forces pour poursuivre ton chemin. »
23 But he would not eat; so his servants and the woman constrained him, and he listened to their voice, and rose up from the earth, and sat upon a bench.
Mais il refusa, et dit: « Je ne mangerai pas. » Mais ses serviteurs, avec la femme, le contraignirent, et il écouta leur voix. Il se leva de terre et s'assit sur le lit.
24 And the woman had a fat heifer in the house; and she hasted and killed it; and she took meal and kneaded it, and baked unleavened cakes.
La femme avait dans la maison un veau gras. Elle se hâta de l'égorger; elle prit de la farine, la pétrit et en fit des pains sans levain.
25 And she brought [the meat] before Saul, and before his servants; and they ate, and rose up, and departed that night.
Elle l'apporta devant Saül et devant ses serviteurs, et ils mangèrent. Puis ils se levèrent et partirent cette nuit-là.
