Kings III 22
1 And he rested three years, and there was no war between Syria and Israel.
On se reposa pendant trois ans, sans qu’il y eût guerre entre la Syrie et Israël.
2 And it came to pass in the third year, that Josaphat king of Juda went down to the king of Israel.
La troisième année, Josaphat, roi de Juda, descendit auprès du roi d’Israël.
3 And the king of Israel said to his servants, Know you that Remmath Galaad [is] ours, and we are slow to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?
Le roi d’Israël dit à ses serviteurs: « Savez-vous que Ramoth-en-Galaad est à nous? Et nous ne faisons rien pour la reprendre des mains du roi de Syrie! »
4 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat, Will you go up with us to Remmath Galaad to battle?
Et il dit à Josaphat: « Viendras-tu avec moi attaquer Ramoth-en-Galaad? » Josaphat répondit au roi d’Israël: « Il en sera de moi comme de toi, de mon peuple comme de ton peuple, de mes chevaux comme de tes chevaux. »
5 And Josaphat said, As I [am], so [are] you also; as my people, [so is] your people; as my horses, [so are] your horses. And Josaphat king of Juda said to the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray you, of the Lord today.
Josaphat dit alors au roi d’Israël: « Consulte maintenant, je te prie, la parole de Yahweh. »
6 And the king of Israel gathered all the prophets together, about four hundred men; and the king said to them, Shall I go up to Remmath Galaad to battle, or shall I forbear? and they said, Go up, and the Lord will surely give [it] into the hands of the king.
Le roi d’Israël assembla les prophètes, au nombre de quatre cents environ, et leur dit: « Irai-je attaquer Ramoth-en-Galaad, ou m’en abstiendrai-je? » Ils répondirent: « Monte, et le Seigneur la livrera entre les mains du roi. »
7 And Josaphat said to the king of Israel, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord, that we may enquire of the Lord by him?
Mais Josaphat dit: « N’y a-t-il plus ici aucun prophète de Yahweh, par qui nous puissions l’interroger? »
8 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat, There is one man here [for us] to enquire of the Lord by; but I hate him, for he does not speak good of me, but only evil; Michaias son of Jemblaa. And Josaphat king of Juda said, Let not the king say so.
Le roi d’Israël répondit à Josaphat: « Il y a encore ici un homme par qui l’on pourrait consulter Yahweh; mais je le hais, car il ne prophétise sur moi rien de bon, mais seulement du mal: c’est Michée, fils de Jemla. » Et Josaphat dit: « Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi! »
9 And the king of Israel called a eunuch and said, [Bring hither] quickly Michaias son of Jemblaa.
Alors le roi d’Israël, appelant un eunuque, lui dit: « Fais venir de suite Michée, fils de Jemla. »
10 And the king of Israel and Josaphat king of Juda sat, each on his throne, armed in the gates of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.
Le roi d’Israël et Josaphat roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son trône, revêtus de leurs habits royaux, dans la place, à l’entrée de la porte de Samarie; et tous les prophètes prophétisaient devant eux.
11 And Sedekias son of Chanaan made for himself iron horns, and said, Thus says the Lord, With these you shall push Syria, until it be consumed.
Sédécias, fils de Canaana, s’était fait des cornes de fer, et il dit: « Ainsi dit Yahweh: Avec ces cornes tu frapperas les Syriens jusqu’à les exterminer. »
12 And all the prophets prophesied in like manner, saying, Go up to Remmath Galaad, and [the thing] shall prosper, and the Lord shall deliver it and the king of Syria into your hands.
Et tous les prophètes prophétisaient de même, en disant: « Monte à Ramoth-en-Galaad et sois vainqueur, car Yahweh la livrera entre les mains du roi. »
13 And the messenger that went to call Michaias spoke to him, saying, Behold now, all the prophets speak with one mouth good concerning the king, let now your words be like the words of one of them, and speak good things.
Le messager qui était allé appeler Michée lui parla en ces termes: « Voici que les paroles des prophètes sont unanimes pour annoncer du bien au roi; que ta parole soit donc conforme à la parole de chacun d’eux: annonce du bien. »
14 And Michaias said, [As] the Lord lives, whatever the Lord shall say to me, that will I speak.
Michée répondit: « Yahweh est vivant! Ce que Yahweh me dira, je l’annoncerai. »
15 And he came to the king: and the king said to him, Michaias, shall I go up to Remmath Galaad to battle, or shall I forbear? and he said, Go up, and the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
Lorsqu’il fut arrivé près du roi, le roi lui dit: « Michée, irons-nous attaquer Ramoth-en-Galaad, ou nous en abstiendrons-nous? » Il lui répondit: « Monte et sois vainqueur, car Yahweh la livrera entre les mains du roi. »
16 And the king said to him, How often shall I adjure you, that you speak to me truth in the name of the Lord?
Et le roi lui dit: « Jusqu’à combien de fois t’adjurerai-je de ne me dire que la vérité au nom de Yahweh? »
17 And he said, Not so. I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains as a flock without a shepherd: and the Lord said, [Is] not God lord of these? let each one return to his home in peace.
Michée répondit: « Je vois tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes, comme les brebis qui n’ont pas de berger; et Yahweh a dit: Ces gens n’ont pas de maître; qu’ils retournent en paix, chacun dans sa maison! »
18 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat king of Juda, Did I not say to you that this man does not prophesy good to me, for [he speaks] nothing but evil?
Le roi d’Israël dit à Josaphat: « Ne te l’ai-je pas dit? Il ne prophétise sur moi rien de bon, mais seulement du mal. »
19 And Michaias said, Not so, [it is] not I: hear the word of the Lord; [it is] not so. I saw the God of Israel sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven stood about him on his right hand and on his left.
Et Michée dit: « Ecoute donc la parole de Yahweh: J’ai vu Yahweh assis sur son trône, et toute l’armée du ciel se tenait auprès de lui, à sa droite et à sa gauche.
20 And the Lord said, Who will deceive Achaab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall in Remmath Galaad? and one spoke one way, and another another way.
Et Yahweh dit: Qui trompera Achab, pour qu’il monte à Ramoth-en-Galaad et qu’il y périsse? Ils répondirent l’un d’une manière, l’autre d’une autre.
21 And there came forth a spirit and stood before the Lord, and said, I will deceive him.
Alors l’esprit vint se tenir devant Yahweh et dit: Moi, je le tromperai. Yahweh lui dit: Comment?
22 And the Lord said to him, Whereby? And he said, I will go forth, and will be a false spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You shall deceive him, yes, and shall prevail: go forth, and do so.
Il répondit: Je sortirai et je serai un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. Yahweh dit: Tu le tromperas et tu en viendras à bout; sors, et fais ainsi.
23 And now, behold, the Lord has put a false spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the Lord has spoken evil against you.
Voici donc que Yahweh a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous tes prophètes qui sont là. Et Yahweh a prononcé du mal sur toi. »
24 And Sedekias the son of Chanaan came near and struck Michaias on the cheek, and said, What sort of a spirit of the Lord [has] spoken in you?
Mais Sédécias, fils de Canaana, s’étant approché, frappa Michée sur la joue et dit: « Par où l’esprit de Yahweh est-il sorti de moi pour te parler? »
25 And Michaias said, Behold, you shall see in that day, when you shall go into an innermost chamber to hide yourself there.
Michée répondit: « Voici que tu le verras en ce jour-là où tu iras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher. »
26 And the king of Israel said, Take Michaias, and convey him away to Semer the keeper of the city;
Le roi d’Israël dit: « Prends Michée, et amène-le à Amon, gouverneur de la ville, et à Joas, fils du roi.
27 and tell Joas the king's son to put this [fellow] in prison, and to feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction until I return in peace.
Tu leur diras: Ainsi dit le roi: Mettez cet homme en prison, et nourrissez-le du pain de l’affliction et de l’eau d’affliction, jusqu’à ce que je vienne en paix. »
28 And Michaias said, If you return at all in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me.
Et Michée dit: « Si vraiment tu reviens en paix, Yahweh n’a pas parlé par moi. » Il ajouta: « Entendez, vous tous, peuples. »
29 So the king of Israel went up, and Josaphat king of Juda with him to Remmath Galaad.
Le roi d’Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, montèrent à Ramoth-en-Galaad.
30 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat king of Juda, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle, and do you put on my raiment. So the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.
Le roi d’Israël dit à Josaphat: « Je veux me déguiser pour aller au combat; mais toi, revêts-toi de tes habits. » Et le roi d’Israël se déguisa et alla au combat.
31 And the king of Syria had charged the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, Fight not [against] small or great, but against the king of Israel only.
Le roi de Syrie avait donné un ordre aux trente-deux chefs de ses chars, en ces termes: « Vous n’attaquerez ni petit ni grand, mais seulement le roi d’Israël. »
32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Josaphat king of Juda, that they said, this seems [to be] the king of Israel. And they compassed him about to fight [against] him; and Josaphat cried out.
Quand les chefs des chars virent Josaphat, ils dirent: « Sûrement, c’est le roi d’Israël! » et ils se tournèrent contre lui pour l’attaquer. Josaphat poussa un cri.
33 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that this was not the king of Israel, that they returned from him.
Quand les chefs des chars virent que ce n’était pas le roi d’Israël, ils se détournèrent de lui.
34 And one drew a bow with a good aim, and struck the king of Israel between the lungs and the breast-plate: and he said to his charioteer, Turn your hands, and carry me away out of the battle, for I am wounded.
Alors un homme tira de son arc au hasard et atteignit le roi d’Israël entre les jointures et la cuirasse. Le roi dit à celui qui conduisait son char: « Tourne, et fais-moi sortir du camp, car je suis blessé. »
35 And the war was turned in that day, and the king was standing on the chariot, against Syria from morning till evening; and he shed the blood out of his wound, into the bottom of the chariot, and died at even, and the blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.
Le combat devint violent, ce jour-là. Le roi était tenu debout sur son char en face des Syriens, et il mourut le soir; le sang de la blessure coula dans l’intérieur du char.
36 And the herald of the army stood at sunset, saying, Let every man go to his own city and his own land,
Vers le coucher du soleil, ce cri courut dans le camp: « Chacun à sa ville et chacun à son pays! »
37 for the king is dead. And they came to Samaria, and buried the king in Samaria.
Ainsi mourut le roi. Il fut ramené à Samarie, et l’on enterra le roi à Samarie.
38 And they washed the chariot at the fountain of Samaria; and the swine and the dogs licked up the blood, and the harlots washed themselves in the blood, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke.
Lorsqu’on lava le char à l’étang de Samarie, les chiens léchèrent le sang d’Achab et les prostituées s’y baignèrent, selon la parole que Yahweh avait dite.
39 And the rest of the acts of Achaab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities which he built, behold, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
Le reste des actes d’Achab, tout ce qu’il a fait, la maison d’ivoire qu’il a bâtie et toutes les villes qu’il a bâties, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?
40 And Achaab slept with his fathers, and Ochozias his son reigned in his stead.
Achab se coucha avec ses pères; et Ochozias, son fils, régna à sa place.
41 And Josaphat the son of Asa reigned over Juda: in the fourth year of Achaab king of Israel began Josaphat to reign.
Josaphat, fils d’Asa, devint roi de Juda la quatrième année d’Achab, roi d’Israël.
42 Thirty and five years old [was he] when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name [was] Azuba daughter of Salai.
Josaphat avait trente-cinq ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna vingt-cinq ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère se nommait Azuba, fille de Salaï.
43 And he walked in all the way of Asa his father: he turned not from it, even from doing that which was right in the eyes of the Lord. Only he took not away [any] of the high places: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places.
Il marcha dans toute la voie d’Asa, son père, et ne s’en détourna point, faisant ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahweh. Seulement les hauts lieux ne disparurent pas; le peuple continua d’offrir des sacrifices et des parfums sur les hauts lieux.
44 And Josaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.
Josaphat fut en paix avec le roi d’Israël.
45 And the rest of the acts of Josaphat, and his mighty deeds, whatever he did, behold, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Juda?
Le reste des actes de Josaphat, les exploits qu’il accomplit, et les guerres qu’il fit, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?
Il ôta du pays le reste des prostitués qui y étaient encore demeurés au temps d’Asa, son père.
Il n’y avait pas alors de roi en Edom; un gouverneur remplissait les fonctions de roi.
Josaphat construisit dix vaisseaux de Tharsis pour aller à Ophir chercher de l’or; mais il n’y alla point, parce que les vaisseaux se brisèrent à Asiongaber.
Alors Ochozias, fils d’Achab, dit à Josapahat: « Permets que mes serviteurs aillent avec tes serviteurs sur les vaisseaux. » Mais Josaphat ne voulut pas.
50 And Josaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried by his fathers in the city of David his father, and Joram his son reigned in his stead.
Josaphat se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré avec ses pères dans la ville de David, son père; Joram, son fils, régna à sa place.
51 And Ochozias son of Achaab reigned over Israel in Samaria: in the seventeenth year of Josaphat king of Juda, Ochozias son of Achaab reigned over Israel in Samaria two years.
Ochozias, fils d’Achab, devint roi d’Israël à Samarie la dix-septième année de Josaphat, roi de Juda. Il régna deux ans sur Israël.
52 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of Achaab his father, and in the way of Jezabel his mother, and in the sins of the house of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who caused Israel to sin.
Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, et il marcha dans la voie de son père et dans la voie de sa mère, et dans la voie de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, qui avait fait pécher Israël.
53 And he served Baalim, and worshipped them, and provoked the Lord God of Israel, according to all that had been done before him.
Il servit Baal et se prosterna devant lui, et il irrita Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël, selon tout ce qu’avait fait son père.
